If you didn't know, there's a technique called "skimmer skating" that I rarely see people use. You essentially, grind the air, stop grinding, dodge right, and then immediately grind after. Doing this allows you to keep your dodge momentum into the grind, and if you repeat this, can be extremely fast compared to normal grimding.

Tip for The Impasse, you in fact do not have to clear the blight bubble once you enter, same for the The Landing & The Blooming if those ever spawn on you. Each place has at least 1 blight bubble that will “trap” you. Just fast travel to the area you’re in, & boom. You’re out of the bubble without having to complete the event.

Another good way is to check/grab the chest in the blight last, so you don't need to clear it - you can just adjust the route and reload once you're done.

I coded a bot for a different purpose that I modified. Runs in the background, when it detects that a chest has been opened (it watches the screen) it records what was acquired. Im also gonna do my own data stuff Unfortunately it doesnt keep track of time, but the data here is very valuable too, tysm!

Great video, thank you very much. I really liked the route from your last one (going clockwise). I spawn in and try to hit the encounter as you enter. You can usually do this before the chests even spawn. Then I do the shrieker at the bridge as well. Both very quick.

Great video with some very interesting information. I have been farming chests for the class items almost exclusively in the Landing. One thing i have noticed that is extremely consistent is getting the class item to drop sooner when I'm on Overthrow level 3. I've been farming rep for the ghost resets for the triumph and been casually doing the overthrow events and chest farming at the same time and that's how i came across this. For the last 4 days I've focused on getting up to overthrow level 3 and stopping then and exclusively focusing on the chests. Somewhere around 600-850/1000 I'll get a class item. I compare now to before when i first started and would ignore the overthrow completely and sometimes go 45 minutes+ between class item drops. Take my information with a grain of salt but i think the overthrow level might act as a multiplier for the drop rates (or at the very least have some effect on it). It's way to consistent to be RNG.

I have tested that sort of effect over the last week or so - that doesn't seem to occur at T4 Overthrow (had comparable rates across 50+ runs). But it very well may be the case for T3 and lower, but looking at the dispersal of drops across the runs - there doesn't really seem to be a trend towards any specific overthrow level.

I've seen similar results from a few other sources, you just grind to where the boss is out and leave her be. You also do HVTs and the two quick cleanse chests.

I haven't done too much testing myself.. But, I never got a back to back either and most of mine come in between 25-60 chest. Every so often it's under 25. This makes me think it's super low in the beginning and it slowly gains a higher percentage over a period of time. Example: 1st chest you open after you just got an exotic chest piece it's 0.50%. 5th chest is 1%. 10th chest is 2%. 20th chest is 5% etc etc.. Not saying it's those percentages and this idea could be completely wrong but it just feels like a pity system coding behind the scenes.

I actually had started doing these same runs to test out the odds last week, mainly cause I'm a solo player so free roam is more comfortable than a forced fireteam. And what you have sounds about right for what I've seen with open world faction chests. There is some part of me that feels like chests from overthrow activities, overthrow lvl 4 boss, the darkness memory chests like expunging or offering, mini boss chests (like the ones received for pathfinder nodes "open chest from killing so and so"), and high value target chests, all have different odds than faction chests. Mainly because each of those chests provide a different number of points: like 25 for faction, 100 for high value, 250 for darkness memory ones, etc., so it would make sense that odds are different because the value is different. But I haven't gotten around to testing it yet, and honestly not sure how I would go about doing that. Another thing I had been keeping track of is if dying and changing locations affects odds of getting the exotic from these chests. I've had a handful of people tell me that when they have changed locations, theyd go from a drought to immediately getting one. Which could be coincidence, but I've noticed more consistency to hitting on every 20-25 faction chest when I would alternate between landing, blooming, and impasse. As for dying, same thing. It could be a coincidence, too, but I've had instances where while in the same location, I would hit after 20 or so chests, not see one after the next 40-50, accidentally die to missing a ledge or running into an overthrow thats just 3x very aggro ogres and 3x even more aggro shriekers, and then immediately get it within the next 5 chests. It's almost as if dying resets the counter, but I still have a lot of testing to prove if that or changing locations has any influence. I also should probably test the combination of both, as well. I've also kept track of whenever I would get a pale heart engram, of course not including when I got one from the ghost vendor rank going up. Which I did more because people say farming the chest arent worth it, and I wanted to show that it is between the exotic, the engrams, the glimmer (now that we dont have legendary shards), and the ghost rank. But a lot of my stats have the engram popping up a few chests before the exotic, but never at the same time. I don't know if there is anything to do with that, just felt to include it since I was already here. I didn't track when I received traveler mods, but from what I can remember, I've received those alongside engrams and exotics, alike. So I don't think they warrant any tracking for influence like the engrams do. Either way, good stuff on the stats. Maybe this info could help you a bit, probably not though. As much as I feel like changing locations, dying, or different chests having different odds is possible, chances are its just in my head and I'm wasting my time looking for it. lol

Here's another question, it doesn't seem like each chest is 2.47% right away. It seems like I never get a drop from a chest right as I start farming. Fastes drop I've got was around 12 minutes into farming. It's like there's a lockout/requirement before I'll get a drop. Additionally, if it's pure chance there would be times where you would get two class items very close together. But again, seems like there is almost a cooldown between drops during long farming sessions. So my question, what's the fastest/shortest time between drops during a farming session that you've seen? Also, love the data you've presented!

@@DDoe-jr6bn Yea i mean, thats how probabilities work. A zero in a casino roulete has a 1 in 37 wich also rounds out around a 2.7%~. In theory one in every 37 spins should end in a Zero, but in reality you could go 100 times without getting a Zero, or get three Zero's in a row. The other day Penguinz (Moistcritical) pulled a yu-gioh card that had a 0.0002% of being in a card pack, yet it happened probabilities are something very complex to understand but the point is rare things happen. The exotic class sistems seems to have a minimun chest ammount until it starts dropping, and probably has some type of pitty sistem that prevents you to go 100 chests without having one. Bungie did not dropped any info on this and likely will never do, so we can only work with what we have

Can be on any tier of overthrow, takes about 30 seconds for chests to spawn in. There's a few spawns in each area, so try using the ghost mod.

Not sure if anyone knows this but after i did dual destiny i got around to unlocking the new heavy trace, and when doing i believe the second mission (i dont think it matters) upon clearing one of the sections of the missions i got the exotic class item out of the chest. So not sure what the drop rates are for those on the hard coop missions but you can defintely get them from the chests and not just the final chests literally any of the chests can drop it

After even more farming I’m like 99% sure there is a cooldown once you get a class item from a chest. I farmed the Landing for 10hrs on Sunday. At the beginning I got a class item from the 2nd chest. The next one didn’t drop until chest 107. Then the next chest was 89. Then the next one after that was 83. Not a single class item dropped after 40-50 chests. All of them were 60+. My lowest chest was 63 and 64 and they weren’t consecutive. I’m very suspect about the 40~ chest drop rate being thrown around. In total I opened 3300 chests the average number was 79 chests to get a class item to drop after a class item drop. I didn’t leave the zone at all. When I got to the level 4 boss I left it up and continued farming. I didn’t count time since I was an all day thing and I was getting up every 30 minutes to do something around the house.

Try switching characters. Maybe it's just luck but I switched just after getting one on my warlock and then got one on my titan 3 or 4 runs player. Switched again after that and bam, she thing. Switched again after that then back to a long, long farm. Maybe I was lucky but give it a try.

There's still a grace period whenever you load into a zone, regardless of zone status. The Landing has the fastest route, so you reload into The Landing after grabbing the final chest.

Keep in mind that when you get a chest drop, the drop percentage resets. So even though on average it might be 1 in 50 chests, you will never get two drops back to back.

TFS is a great expansion so far but this just shows they are still stubborn with stuff like this... they should've made this bug a baseline feature instead of nerfing it. Also episodes seem to bee a watered down, drip fed seasonal thing with just less contend that is timegated. They have to keep on delivering now instead of laying back and doing such things.

Yeah, In the last video I did say most people aren't doing around 15 min. I mean I think most skilled players aren't doing that either. I did say average is around 20-25 minutes but I even think that is kinda too low. To me I consider myself a very good player but I don't take the game too seriously as I used to. Doing the Duel Destiny causally without really any effort is around 30minutes on average for me. So, I would assume for the casual average it's probably around that time if I'm completely honest. If I put in a bit of effort into the mission it'll probably be around 20-25minutes. If I really tried and I don't consider myself a speed runner it would be like 17-18 minutes but it's draining to do that over and over at that pace so that's why I just do it casually and do chest farm.

It isn't hard to do it in 20-25 minutes consistantly

Definitely cheated the numbers a little by not counting the load screen times. And add a few more seconds for being less proficient with movement or Icarus dash (or a different character) But full runs can be done in + or - 2 minutes. Most of my drops have been close to 20 minutes apart.
