Hey Kraig, just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. They're super helpful and I've implemented quite a few of the minimalist ideas you've shared. Love the style of your videos too, they're just super clean and simple and calming to watch. Keep up the great work! Also looking forward to hearing how you do quickbooks!

I love your aesthetic, your work and your principles. Been following you for about a year and I always love your videos! Some of your videos have really stuck with me (Japan, Seattle) for both your beautiful cinematography and the unique pacing of your edits. Thanks for always being an inspiration! I'm a big believer in digital minimalism as well. We leave footprints all over the internet, but it's nice to keep our personal workspaces as streamlined as possible.

I started removing all raw footage and completed video projects ever since your first Digital Minimalism video. The disk space is wayyy easier to manage and it really is useless to have hanging around.

I have a really bad habit of keeping raw footage. I’ve got footage from a short film I shot 5 years ago and it just sits on a hard drive in my office and is never touched. I’m inspired now to clean it up and get rid of these hard drives. Every piece of wedding footage I’ve ever shot is saved on a hard drive and I’m constantly having to move stuff to a new drive. It’s pointless now that I think about it. Great video Kraig!

Ahh...here's a great example of information that is left out of a story or the fact that someone will need to read between the lines in order to fill the story in… The reason that Kraig is able to get rid of his RAW files is because what he isn't working for SOMEONE WHO IS ACTUALLY PAYING HIM MONEY - most of Kraigs’ videos are weddings and his own channel, so at the end of the day, the only person that Kraig needs to answer to is Kraig. He can do whatever wants because he doesn't have to turn over the footage to someone else, if necessary. In order for any workflow to work in a Real World scenario you have to consider the end means and what you are trying to accomplish. In this case, Kraig is only mentioning Wedding Film School, Wedding couples and his KZbin channel. Kraig is not letting people fully know what he does with his CLIENT footage - should he have any. Do I consider Wedding Couples clients? Of course, but 99% of Wedding Couples aren’t going to want their footage back once that project is done - they just want the end product…so What about any outside Commercial Clients? The ones that actually are paying 5/10/15K for projects… This is just one point of many which Kraig has failed to mention to everyone when considering this particular workflow. Kraig has an “excuse” section of this video devoted to talking to/about people who sound like they are hobbyists out there - people who may edit on their own free time for their own personal use and who just leave footage sitting around and don't do anything with it ….but you know what? I have called a CLIENT ARCHIVE and its exactly what it sounds like - an Archive….Of My Clients Work - all 16TB of it….backed up on 2 towers - that’s 32TB of backed up footage…JUST THE FOOTAGE. Would I love to get rid of this? YES, of course I would - they are bulky machines that just sit and take space up in my studio but I’ve had at least 10 instances where my Commercial Clients who paid large amounts of money wanted to go back and do additional projects for more fees from my original footage. Because I had my RAW footage, I not only was able to say yes to my Clients and keep my business running but I avoided needing to explain to my Clients why I dont have the footage they paid for. If you are in the business of making money for your work and it involves KZbin, then this model would work fine….in the meantime, for people who need real World application - please update your video to show how you get rid of your RAW files in a way that you can re-access them for actual Clients that are not getting married.

Little known tip: Google Drive also has a business account, called "G Suite" and it costs 10-20$ per month, per user, minimum 5 users... EXCEPT! Google doesn't enforce the minimum user. There is a subreddit about "Digital Hoarding" haha and they often show screenshots of 10-50 TB of data uploaded. Something to look into, for anyone interested :)

I agree that it works in your case, but as you it's not as clear cut with weddings. To be fair, there is a lot of clips I've saved where I will NEVER go back and re-edit a wedding film and use those, but all that to say that I am glad you made this! It's made me realize that a lot of stuff that gets saved will NEVER be used again.

I think it's beautiful how you've cut the fat from your workflow and video storage. I myself have boxes of hard drives, also copious mini-DV tapes, even VHS tapes on them with footage I will probably never touch again...but I can't bear to part with it. Also, when it comes to footage for work, deleting any raw files is a no go. That being said, your minimalist philosophy will inspire me to think about how I might better organize my junk. Great video (despite all of the background noise obvs.)

I actually this past January went through four terabytes of footage from my years of filmmaking and deleted most of it, only keeping highlights and final videos. I'm not taking such an extreme approach as you are, but at the same time I don't want to dump money into all of this data storage. I feel like if I can't fit it all in a reasonable footprint that one might expect for a single person, I've missed the point that what I'm doing is a hobby.

isnt using stock footage in your own videos kind of deceptive if the very product you are selling is video production, you're essentially using someone else's footage and claiming it as your own. Thats like using stock photos as a wedding photographer. It seems strange.

You can start a G-Suite account with 5 active users, which means you can activate dummy accounts... and then for $10 per user per month or $50 a month have Unlimited Google Storage. $600 a year for unlimited storage isn't bad... and if you get a few other film making friends in on the deal... it can cost you even less.

Just so I’m clear, once your done you throw everything away apart from the final render. So if you ever did want to revisit/re-edit all you’d work from was the finished (flattened) vid? I’m not suggesting you’d probably ever need to re visit something like a wedding video, but still, that’s a pretty hardcore workflow!!
