Fun fact I'm pretty sure girls that sing the song every OP are the VA's also love how epic this show was. I'm trying to figure out how it got so popular suddenly out of nowhere. It went from having a 6 year break to having a new season every year. 2010-2018 were the glory years for anime tell me I'm wrong. That "Seirei" when the narration begins hits so hard. I've watched this opening so many times in these 9 years that I know the words by heart. There's a reason why the song is called "Date A Live". It is the series anthem. It will never get old.

I just found this and I still can’t get over it, everything about the opening is perfect from the beginning to the end and I’ve never been one to really get into openings. Is this my transition into becoming a weeb? Is it too late to turn back now? Am I required to read some manga? Every "new" thing the spirits do seems like cheating until you understand that it's just a new rule added to the gal game. So Shido using Zafkiel would seem like cheating to Mio, but Shido is following the rules. The novel/show do such a good job of enforcing and exploring the rules in play.

I just can't listen to this song if it is in my playlist because it is very profound and heart-wrenching in a sense. I have to be in a mood to become depressed yet amazed. You see, this opening starts upbeat and yet somber in style...indicating something wrong and serious is happening. Then, it starts to changes to a hopeful tone just before the main beat and hard line drops, implying that there is perhaps still some hope in this broken world of ours for the Spirits. It takes the viewer on a wild, adventurous ride while lamenting the melancholy and fragile nature of this world and the helplessness of the Spirits. But then, the song's theme was perhaps a paradoxical thought, brought to life. The first time I heard this song, my mind quite literally stopped working because the harmony, melody and lyrics (although I had zero knowledge of Japanese at the time of watching this in 2020) ALL CAME TOGETHER, as if trying to cry out, "'OH HELP ME, FOR I AM STUCK IN THIS LOOP OF DREAD AND DESPAIR!!! PLEASE BRING ME SALVATION.... SHOW ME LOVE, SO THAT I MAY LOVE YOU BACK AS THE SAVIOUR WHO CHANGED MY DESTINY ...."....I LOVE YOU DATE A LIVE AND I SHALL ALWAYS HAVE A PLACE IN MY HEART FOR YOU AND NEVER EVER FORGET YOU!!!!!!!(I met the love of my life here as well, so thanks again). HUGE PROPS AND SHOUT OUT to sweetARMS for all the OSTs for DAL that they made!!! The new OPs shall never come close to this masterpiece.
