@THE ANGRY Yes, latinos are people whose mothertongue is a latin-based language... But this is not commonly used "as this". The "Latino" thing started in the 80's (i don't remember the date, i might be wrong) in the USA because they did a population census and segmented people according to their ethnicity so they simplified all the "latin-american" descendants by a group called "LATINOS", this term got popularized all over the years by the massmedia. Therefore, this term is correct (specially in the USA but we can argue on that). However, the best "word" should be "LATIN-AMERICANS" which differs from the "LATIN-EUROPEANS"... and latinamericans involve hispanics, brazilians and french speaking countries in the Caribe. Fun story about that. My wife and I were waiting for our coffees at Starbucks, they were writing names on cups and calling them out when the coffees were ready. Wife’s name is Judi and I guess the handwriting of one of the baristas was bad and she thought it said Juan. She called out Juan and looked straight at me and repeatedly called out Juan, like I didn’t understand. The girl who wrote said sorry that’s supposed to be Judi. White girl turned a deep shade of red and apologized. Needless to say this is a legit stereotype. FYI, no my name is not Juan.

My family is one of the oldest families in the town I live in, we can be traced back over 400 years. I've had to remind people many times that, A) Tainos were not white, ( Census had my family as Mestizos) and B) Many white people live in RD. My husband's family are Dominicans and they are white! Also, many are too stupid to notice that my accent is because English is my dominant language, even though I am completely fluent in Spanish. When I was in the states people didn't believe I was Puerto Rican because I didn't look like JLO! 🤣 Many thought I was Mexican, I've been called a liar many times when I tell them I'm from PR. Renato V. And behind that facade, hides a lot of insecurities, fears and talks about that probably you weren’t treated with love and respect when you were little....how is or was your relationship with your Father....did he treated and treated people with affection and respect? My American-ness is way more sensitive to personal space and ownership of items than they are I’ve come to realize. The other thing though, is that I’m glad the jealous machismo tendency skipped him, he’s also way more less prone to make decisions emotionally. So I consider myself very fortunate!

Love my Dominicans, but my dominican brother said Latin America is a continent (it's part of a continent) and that we all speak Spanish, Brazilians and Haitians are also latinos and they don't speak Spanish. Bein latino and being Hispanic is not the same, some latinos are Hispanic, but those who aren't are not one bit less latinos. Love for all 🇩🇴❤

Nice divisions. I support them, they celebrate the difference between us. (Yes, they exist, especially ethnicly speaking). Caribbean, for example, has far more African blood than other parts of Latin America, due to high trade of slaves and sugar, of course.

People tend to misinterpret the word "latino", "Latinoamérica" includes all the countries of the Americas that speak a language that comes from Latin, those are Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, French, Romanian and others, that's why Brazil and Haiti are included, while "Hispanoamérica" only includes the countries that speak Spanish.

What really annoys me Is when they refer “Americans” to the people from United States. AMERICA IS A CONTINENT not just one country! Maybe it’s just me but I live in France and every time a French person ask me If I’ve been in “America” (United States) it gets me out of my nerves. I feel like they’re taking our identity as part of a continent. It’s just my opinion

Miriam Martínez Well, get used to it.

One thing: continents are taught differently in different countries. In the US it's north and south America, in Latin America it's The Americas. Yo entiendo porque nos ponemos defensivos cuando refieran a los estadosunidienses como Americanos, pero si lo piensas, todos los paises tienen nombres "Venezuela, El Salvador, Mexico..." pero los Estados Unidos is just that: "The United States of America" with the word America. Es mas facil decir "American" que "United Statsian" or something. We're all American, that's true, but it's just easier to call people from the US Americans. Many other languages also don't have a name for "estadosunidiense" like in Spanish, so people just go for American.

Miriam Martínez As a person from the USA, I have to say that it’s the rest of the world’s fault that people from this country are called “Americans”. Because that’s what the rest of the world calls us, so it’s what we call ourselves.

Let me ask you this, what do you call Germany in spanish? You call it "Alemania", right? Why not GERMANY? Better yet, why not DEUTSCHLAND, which is what Germans call it? OMG the Germans must be offended that you don't call their country Deutschland!!! You see how stupid your logic is? In English (and many other languages too) calling the USA simply "America" is perfectly accepted. In Spanish it's America, the continent. In English it's North America and South America the continents, and America the country. End of story. There is no problem here.

Like this video! I always appreciate your willingness to tackle what most people feel hesitant to talk about. For my part, I had a Mexican girlfriend and yes, she told me quite assertively that Mexican women do not put up with any talk about other women. Her male friend also chimed in to support her on this. And yes, Latinos *do* know how to dance and they do *not* need to learn the dance steps since they just somehow know how to wing it.
