once I met a worker from UN in an airplane, and started talking to him. He went to more than 40 countries in his entire life, and said that Brazil is the most mixed country he's ever seen. Then I said, well, I believe all countries have different races, and he replied "But Brazil is different. There's not one single similarity between the people, you have so many different skin tones, eye colors, hairstyles and all that. You can not make up a stereotype for your people, its amazing". Yes, and race is also a confusing topic in Brazil. If you're not white, nor black, nor asian, nor indigenous, so you just say you are ''Pardo''. My entire life I was just used to say I was Pardo, but I was quite confused because Pardo is not even a race lol, and my parents are Pardo as well. Then I discovered that foreigners (mainly Americans) would just say I am ''Latina'', it was quite relieving.

Most of brazilians feel too white to be black or too black to be withe... And if you got a natural straight or wavy hair and darker skin tone, you know that you got indigenous roots... But most of us got european roots mixtured with subsarian african roots and indigenous roots as well... Lol. Even people that considere themselves as white, got mix in them. But some whites on south are pure ethnically white... Rare are the ones that are purely black and we got pure indigenous people too! And asian descendents, middle eastern descendents! Notice that: we don't say we are our ancestry, we say we are brazilian with some descendance. We also don't like the word "race", we use ethnicity.

I relate SO MUCH to the “we are not hitting on you, we are just nice” as a Brazilian woman. It gets so annoying because I remember I would always talk to everyone including the guys at my work and people started rumors that I was going out with one of them and it felt weird because they were not used to having a woman talk to them, be nice and have no romantic interest.

O meu Deus. I can relate to this also. I am from Aruba and when I first moved to the Netherlands I was being friendly to everyone. I was just being myself. But the dutch felt uncomfortable with my friendliness cause dutch people are more reserved. And whenever I was being friendly with a turkish or moroccan man living here they would think I am flirting and interested in them. And I am like nooo I am just being friendly. I relate too. I am actually a bit angry that they marked this one as "true", because all the comments from the participants made it very clear that this is a myth: we are only polite and warm people, that is not the same as being "sexy or sexual". A lot of brazilian women are harassed when travelling abroad because of this steryotype, me inclued. I used to work in Dubai as a flight attendant with colleagues from all over and have to admit, Brazilians were the most fun, confident, easygoing, up for party, and comfortable in their own skin, and the least homophobic people ever, (as opposed to many others like arabs) I enjoyed working with them a lot

I think Brazil has one of the best mixed people on the entire planet, there's really so much diversity there. You have black mixed with german, polish. Spanish mixed with indigenous, indigenous with black, etc. It's amazing!

I'm from the North and here we have a lot of white+indigenous mixed people my sister is white and I'm little darker with indigenous features.

Yasss. My parents are white in the very strict way to talk about it and I consider myself black. My father has all the black features, I think it's funny who the society reads him as a white man when obviously he's black (afro hair, big nose, great lips etc), but he has a white skin. In USA he'd be black for sure. So sad to know that we don't see this beauty inside Brazil. Prejudice and racism are still a big problem.
