DATSUN 280ZX DIY PAINT JOB!

I decided i've had enough of the vinyl wrap on the Datsun 280zx and it's time to paint it! In this mammoth video, we decide to strip it right back, smash out the bodywork and do a DIY paint job on it! Enjoy 😁.

that is one nice 280zx man. Me and my dad got a 280zx as well and we just fixed the rust and dents on the car. We also finished painting the car and now were replacing the rubbers and front windshield because it was scraped when we bought it. were also gonna add ducktail to make it look nice but I'm also deciding to buy new wheels and tires for it.

What a great video! I’ve got a classic I’m working on (ta22 celica) and was really out off the project at the start hearing people spending crazy amounts on painting/rust repairs etc., but great seeing you guys doing the work yourselves, saving a heap of money and ending up with such good results. Watching your videos is motivating me to start work on the paint on my car!

She's beautiful mate. I'm on my own search trying to find a 280zx in roadworthy condition. They've really started jumping up in price lately though, cheapest I can see near me is about 20k

I'm running s13 fully adjustable coilovers. I had to chop the base off them and weld them to the 280zx strut base (all 280zx coilovers require this).

Looks good. Paint work is so tedious. I just painted the rear hatch on my SUV, and it was hours of sanding, cleaning, preparing, taping, all for about 5 minutes worth of actual painting. I guess you couldn't find any respirators? There's no way I'd want to breathe those fumes in, especially if you used 2K clear coat. I noticed your nostrils were blue after laying down the base coat.

Yeah it's alll in the prep hey! Gets real old real quick haha, but well worth it when the paint is laid. Yeah respirators are hard to come by at the moment. I have one now, won't be doing the dodgy again!

Hey man just curious, did the MIG welder you were using have a gas bottle or was it gasless?

It's a gasless Mig. I've had it for about 3 years and used it for everything haha. I'll be upgrading to a gas mig real soon though.

No worries just checking! As I was going to say if you were using a MIG with gas, you'd be having some pretty big trouble using it with out the MIG gun nozzle/tip on it! Algood though. Keep up the good work mate!

I believe these are series 1 bumpers. I've noticed a lot of 280zx have the big chunky bumpers! These are certainly much more desirable for sure.
