This channel is like a Hidden Gem of the KZbin world, you really deserve 10x the number of subscribers for what you are doing (and especially compared with people unboxing junk or playing computer games...)

Also back when we did Galena Peak to Little San G traverse it was the same. Loose rock, where holds might break off in your hand, is the primary thing that scares both of us, and when we see it now combined with steep exposure we get the heck out of there! ❤️

Wait a minute! What feratta kit are you guys using? I don't see a shock absorber on them. They seem slimmer and slicker than what I know. Mind share what brand are they?
@LiveHardxLoveHard Жыл бұрын
Sure Eugen -- these are not store-bought kits. I made them myself out of ultra-dynamic hi-rise construction tethers. This makes them heavier than the store-bought ones, but they are perfect for filming because they allow us to stretch away from the cable with the camera while still remaining safely connected to it. They are also extremely strong and durable, and because of the stretch in them do not require a shock absorber. I would not recommend this for most people, who should just buy one from a company, but for us the extra stretch is extremely valuable and well worth the extra weight. --A

Hey you guys! So I am really researching this hard and plan on doing this next summer. I just want to make sure one detail. I came across information that said the starting point/trail head is 75 minutes from the town of Leukerbad and it’s marked by a white board. Is this correct?
@tonyc2570 Жыл бұрын
Also do you have a recommendation for where to buy a climbing harness with the braking system rope? I’ve done a lot of hiking in the USA 14,000 footers and such but I’ve never had to use one of his harnesses with the ropes.
@LiveHardxLoveHard Жыл бұрын
@@tonyc2570 Yes 75 min sounds about right for the climb, and you also have the option of taking a gondola and then traversing about 15 minutes across to the starting point. Don't remember the white board, but there's a trail going right to the start from the Gemmi gondola station, and the hike up takes you there as well, so either way just follow that trail from the station and you can't miss it. You will see the iron when you get to it!

Thanks very much, and you're right about the filming. You should see some of the ways that Adam has to hang off the mountain in order to get a lot of these shots -- it's like a sport unto itself! We actually met some guys installing new cable when we were going up Konigsjodler, and they were exactly as badass as you would expect! ❤️

I wonder if you were both born without any fear of heights/falling or did you acquire it through practice? Do you enter these trips with detailed knowledge and have yourselves just prepared for every eventuality? Finally how long does this sort of effort last (up and down?). Its a remarkable way to document these remote areas. Well done again..
@LiveHardxLoveHard Жыл бұрын
Very interesting questions! Adam worked his way through college and grad school as a roofer, so that's where he overcame his fear of heights (before that it was probably about average). For me, I'm still working through it and only really started 12 years ago when I met Adam and started doing his crazy adventures with him! We always gather a lot of beta before the trips if we can, so usually have a good idea of what to expect. Though sometimes the beta is wrong and we have to improvise. And as for time it really depends. Big marathon-length adventures can take all day -- 12 hours or more -- but medium ones like this we can usually do in about half that. Filming usually adds an hour or two, depending on the filming challenges we encounter (it's harder to film when hanging from a cliff, for example!). ❤️

Many years ago I visited Leukerbad and took the tram up to the top. I remember seeing the huge cliff face and carved into it was a switch back trail you could use to walk up instead of taking the tram. The guy standing next to in the tram said “see that trail? You could ride a bike up it!” I’ll ne’er forget that, I’ve never seen anything remotely like it since… and I have seen more than a few mountains in my time!

Awesome!

@paulmelde919 that switchback trail is the normal route and it is extremely easy. Plenty of people, elderly and kids are making thir way up to the top of the tram every summer. Via Feratta on the other hand is something else. Vertical most of the way and very long.

Lorina thank you so much for saying that, it made both of us feel so special and happy! As for the cables, we didn't really understand why these ones were so loose. They were in great shape, so it wasn't wear and tear. Maybe there's something about the conditions on that mountain that requires looser cables than usual or something. But it definitely made the climb even more of a challenge! ❤️

And, oh, nicely done... Daubenhborn or Gemmi was the main attraction of my last year's via ferattas trip and only a stupid accident on Almenalp, one hour away from Leukerbad, interrupted my dream to ascend it. I am green with envy for your success but I congratulate you with all my heart. It is spectacular! Your really prepare for these, I can tell, tip top physical and psychological shape. What confuses me is the amount of water and clothing you're carrying. It seems light. I am not a big water drinker but 2 even 3l of water are needed on such a long climb plus, if bad weather strikes, it looks like you do not have a lot of clothing to protect you from the elements. I guess you are reseaching heavily the forecast and don;t go in case of so and so weather, right?
@LiveHardxLoveHard Жыл бұрын
Thank you, and so sorry to hear you had an accident that kept you from Daubenhorn. The good news is that now you still have it to look forward to, and you will absolutely love it! It's just an incredible via ferrata in every way. We each carry 2 1/2 liters of water and layers of clothing in our packs. Perhaps it looks confusing because they hug the body so tightly, but each of them can carry 12 liters of stuff so we can pack quite a lot in them. You are right, we did research the forecast for this climb and picked the day that there was no chance of rain. But ironically, we still got pretty wet from that waterfall in the cave! ❤️

First time viewer of your channel, wow the views! I love also how you show us the climb, how intense it appears to be yet confident of your skill and safety to continue without freaking out and the majestic views throughout. The most stressful to me was the parts where you were not hooked up, next to ledges and that rope bridge, holy!!! These are the most inspiring videos out there, something very few eyes get to see, thanks for letting us see thru your experiences! Switzerland is on my todo for skiing vacation but these climbs / hikes are something else. I have always been too scared for "regular" climbing, not trusting that I would survive just by holding to rocks. Via Ferratas seems a lot more accessible as big cables + steel footings feel much safer and the path is done for you. I do hike up mountains (probably using the roads you guys use to go back down haha). What are good ways to begin / test yourself? (sorry, I am 100% not informed. Just saw your vid, remembered that I would love to do this one day and bam, I am writing this haha).
@LiveHardxLoveHard Жыл бұрын
David, we're so happy you found us! Based on what you said, it seems like via ferratas would be perfect for you. So there are two ways to begin. The first is to just start with some easy (but still beautiful) via ferratas such as Piccolo Cir in the Dolomites -- we have a video on that one you can check out. There are a lot of other easy ones around there too. Another easy Dolomites one we have a video on is the one at Tre Cime. You could do a whole trip where you just do easier ones and enjoy how freaking fantastic it is, and then just start trying harder ones when you feel ready. But if you live somewhere with no via ferratas -- like the US -- and want to prepare even before going to Europe, then you can just join a climbing gym for a couple of months and do some easy beginner top-roping. It's great fun, and will get you used to using a harness so you'll be super comfortable when you do the via ferratas. Excited to hear you're into this, and please let us know how it goes! ❤️

@LiveHardxLoveHard Жыл бұрын
Thank you -- so glad you enjoyed this one! There is almost always a path down from these big via ferratas, so thankfully you don't have to climb down the cables which would be brutal. On a few via ferratas, like the infamous Tomaselli in the Dolomites, you do have to come down cables but it's still in a loop, and the route down is not quite as bad as it would be going back the way you came up. Since you liked this one, you will probably like our Dolomites climbs as well -- a couple of them were actually even harder than this! ❤️
