Interviewed David in August 1998 for the first issue of my new Lads magazine Front - immediately appointed him my lead columnist and sorted him out with a writer/editor and publisher for his first book 'Stop The Ride'... been lifelong friends ever since and can only confirm him as a man of rare intellect, charisma, kindness, humour and general excellence. It has been an honour and a privilege to know and love and be loved by you David! See you soon sir X

Met Dave about 20 years ago. I had my then 1 year old daughter with me. He spent the entire time playing with her on his lap and making jokes. I have a really good photo of the two of them, my daughter had hold of the mini knuckle duster pendant he wore round his neck. Love him or hate him, if you met him, you would never forget him. Rip.

Yeah, I sadly bumped into, and chatted with a lass I knew, the day before she took her own life. I was struck by how upbeat and positive she seemed, but apparently it's very common. Once someone has made the decision to go, they don't have any more cares, and are actually happy, because they know all their problems will be over soon.

Then he said well ya know where I live don’t ya? I said no so he told me n said bring it round I’ll sign it. So I went home my mum told me just go round there. So I did. Got there bouncer on door. I asked to see Mr Courtney, he come to the door I said hello Mr Courtney he said call me Dave you c&&t lol. He showed me round n showed me his collections of stuff. Jenny was there n d’courtney who was around 2 at the time. Dave signed my book n gave me a load of signed memorabilia. As I was leaving Dave said “so what do you do for a living boy? Like an idiot I came straight out with “I’m a dumper truck driver” cos that’s what I did at the time. Dave turned round and said “well my garden ain’t they sodding big” idiot me didn’t think of saying I can do put my hand to anything n get a job out of this lol. So sad it ended & they lost Jenson. Hope Dave is up there having a good time with Jenson and waiting patiently for when Jen eventually joins them & they get back their precious lifelong bond Cracking interview Liam!! You really brought out all facets of Dave, from the rough & tough, to the charismatic & loving side. What a dream of a life he had! I understand so well why he did what he did. He spent time making sure everyone was gonna be okay & he knew Brendan would carry out his wishes fully. True Best Friends there. Brendan is funny as hell too, so I can see how he kept Daves spirits up, even in the roughest pain he was going through. Everyone needs a Brendan. Rave in Paradise Dave!! Free of pain, with that cheeky smile!! Much Love to Jen, Brendan & Mercy, Courtney, and all other family & friends. You lost a great one, but what a history you had, that was so precious & unforgettable❤️🙏🏼❤️👑🇬🇧

Not going to say the venue but around 25 plus years ago i saw a bouncer, who was a kick boxer, almost take the head off a punter with a kick. The lad fell and banged his head and almost died. An ambulance came and as they wete giving him CPR on the floor the bouncer was stood 5 foot away still working the door. Madness.

Brilliant podcast. I read Dave's book: Stop the Ride, when it first came out approximately 20 years ago. Really good read. RIP Dave x

Dave is a very humble kind man who is an excellent story teller and can keep you hanging on his every word , he's done a hell of a lot for charity and lived a life we can only dream about. He's definitely a national treasure even though the establishment will never agree, i just hope and pray that Dave has finally found peace and is no longer suffering any pain and is reunited with his son . RIP DAVE COURTNEY YOU WILL BE GREATLY MISSED BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
