RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR! With heart felt admiration and sincerity! Gary

He legitimately idolized his favorite drummers even after being one of the greatest performers behind a kit. That's so rare. Yeah, Heaven definitely has their hands full up there with these two! Dont know if this was ever mentioned but, Taylor is the only man alive that possesses a pic of him with his arm around Neil. Drummers like myself would give a hemisphere of brain matter for a photo like that. I'm 56 years old and a drummer of 30 years of younger back from 9 years of age. All do respect to the great John Bonham who taught me really good hard Rock drumming... it was when I discovered "The Professor" with 2112 hearing him do things (within the songs themselves) that I knew I reached a higher level of Drum playing then the Live solo's from "All the worlds a stage to Exit" and complex elaborate playing from "Hemispheres" and then to Waves to Moving Pictures. Expanding my set along with tons of practice mastering a fair amount of Rush songs...then my brother and friends saw me has a really good drummer lol. Rush is my all time favourite band - been with me since I was 12 - 40 years now and counting. I have been inspired and moved by Neil’s lyrics, have wondered at Geddy’s mastery of multiple instruments, Alex’s incredible guitar playing and the peerless drumming of the Professor. I cried when I heard the news about Neil - and that is rare for me. But this tribute from two of the nicest guys in rock music - so heartfelt and so passionate - moved me when I first watched it and moves me more following Taylor’s untimely death. Geddy and Alex occasionally talk about how they managed to get through the drug-fuelled early years and focus on their craft. They acknowledge it could have easily gone the other way. It’s desperately sad that Taylor didn’t make it - especially for his family and his friends but also for all of us. His music and his decency will live on and, as with Neil Peart, those of us who saw the Foo Fighters live (and who love their music) should be grateful to have lived in the time of giants.

Every time I watch this video I think of Taylor and Neil. Neil was a legend and it’s so obvious how much respect Taylor had for Neil. Will miss both of them for sure but Rush without a doubt is still the best band ever.

Worst induction ever! Taylor is tweaked and neither of them can refrain from cussing and using uneducated language that disrespects the intelligence and integrity of Neil, Alex, and Geddy. Dave is an amazing musician, and Taylor is a fantastic drummer but they did the absolute worst induction ever. RUSH deserves a lot more intellectual respect than that.

Rush was the first band I saw live. 1976. Sacramento Memorial Auditorium. Opening for Ted Nugent. Before Ted was Be Bop Deluxe. But Rush rocked. Imagine: only a few years into their legacy.

Foo Fighters are the best damn inductors in the universe! Let’s all get in line to lobby them to speak at our memorial services… except half of us would rise from the dead to give them the standing ovation they so richly deserve. Oh… and Rush IS the spirit of radio… RUSH RULES RUSH RULES!
