And now I'm crying all these years later. Wow. I've never see this. As a recovered addict. I can feel that fuck you towards the end. That you no longer hold the key to my chains. I carry them alone. They no longer burden me. It's time to be free. Blown away is right.
@joespago98753 жыл бұрын
I’m right there with you. Weeping. A recovered addict. There’s a moment just after the 5 minute mark, Trey tells his addiction that he’s stronger than it. Every note becomes a punch to the gut of his addiction. Blow after blow. Trey has clearly won the fight. Such a powerful moment to watch. Inspirational.

3/28/16 after many tries. First rehab was Winter 07’ for me. HP just swoops in and kisses Trey’s forehead here and uses him as a conduit.

I saw this show live as a 14 year old, my dad took me the night after an incubus show at SPAC as he was a big Dave fan. Throughout my teens I had only remembered one aspect of this show, and it was this solo. In college I became a Phish fan, and later pieced together that I had witnessed Trey in a huge moment of his life. I wish I had known then the magnitude of the performance at the time. However, it’s amazing how much that magnitude/reality shined through in the music alone. To this day it is one of the most memorable moments in my live music experience.

when trey is finishing his solo on beat on his own, and it comes in perfect time with the band, both dave and butch look at each other with a look of what the fuck just happened. They are used to sick guests and guitarists but no one can build a solo from scratch and turn it into a band jam the way trey did. Literally amazing for modern pop, rock, jam, deadish music.

Man, once Trey starts to build his solo around 5:40 and you can hear the crowd go nuts (5:49) and we see the "trey face"...if you're familiar with Trey's career and that doesn't give you chills, I don't know what to say. When you take into account the circumstances of having recovered from addiction and just coming out of nowhere to appear on stage...pretty awesome stuff here. One of my absolute favorite videos on youtube.

You gotta put this solo into context a bit. Trey was fresh out of or still in rehab in Saratoga County. This was the first time on stage for him in a long time. Its a big moment.
@RD-vt9uu5 жыл бұрын
Chris Holland why do you need to put it in context? It’s objectively awesome.
@AMedda5 жыл бұрын
@@RD-vt9uu ...because this is Trey at his most vulnerable. He was rusty, he was nervous, and he found his groove halfway through. It's extremely moving for that very reason. If you don't know this, it's just a decent solo.

This is just huge. Perhaps tied for the heaviest emotional moment ever in the live setting for Trey. The other in my eyes being his TAB rendition of “It Makes No Difference” from the ACL fest a month after Coventry. The weight of what was happening was just HEAVY. Perhaps that moment and this one here are bookends to a very painful time in Trey’s life. Here the weight is released. Redemption is oh so sweet. He empties the tank here. Happy.Joyous.Free

Trey, battling what he was at the time, lays down an incredible solo just really giving it to the crowd and the crowd gives it right back to him. You know whats crazy, two nights before this show, my brother was lucky enough to meet Trey who was at an event at the Saratoga Polo club where my brother was working at the time. The event was for drug awareness and to show people the effectiveness of drug courts which Trey had been a part of. He asked him if he was playing with Dave in a couple days and he said he would if the judge would allow him to do so. Lets just say we can all thank the judge for this jam because trey just kills this!!!!

Nice to see my hero back in the saddle. Its interesting how other musicians can come in and bring the band to a more raging climax than they could on their own. The #41 with Warren Haynes that is floating around here on youtube is so unbelievable I can't find words. This clip holds a special place though because Phish was and always will be my favorite band. Miss you Trey.

This one get me almost to tears. To know what Trey was going through shortly before that concert and the way he brought it in that solo. It was like redemption on a spiritual level. DMB wanted him to bring it and you could tell that they loved what was happening up there. When Trey breaks it loose after 6:00 you can hear the love from the crowd. To have been there would have been epic!
@jasari19867 жыл бұрын
This was Trey's first big moment back. The beginning of the solo is as apprehensive as I can ever remember him being. Over a few minutes, and attempts, he gets it going and builds something absolutely beautiful. The 5-19-01 version is 2000x better than this, but the raw emotion makes this my slight favorite.

However, seeing Trey back on stage with Dave, was amazing. And watching that solo grow starting around 3:20 into the video, to about 5:00 when the band and Dave got on pace, then at the 6:00 min mark when it got RAW. Sick. Brought me back to old school 92,93 &94 days when Trey tore it up.
