Because after all these years, Dave still hasn’t learned to play guitar. And most guitarists in big, famous bands are like this. They are voted for best guitarist of the year, are on the magazine covers, are idolized by fans, have their guitar series, but their actual playing is on the level of someone who has been playing guitar for 6 months. It doesn’t mean that they aren’t great composers etc, but as players Mustaine, Hammet, Slash, Iommy, etc, they all suck big time. Literally, they can't even play 1 note decently. Fuck, the can’t even mute a string without making any additional noise… And on the other hand we have Jeff Waters, Hetfield, Dimebag, Lorenhio, Vogg, Petrucci, Satriani, Mick Thomson, Eddie Van Halen, etc are the guys, who know how to play the guitar and not butcher it. And what it all means? Well, you don’t have to be a clean player and know how to play the instrument to become famous. Just write good music and have another band members from whom at least some know how to play their instruments, and that’s all what is needed.

He's so good at playing it fast, it takes a second to slow it down... Ive seen him live 5 times, best performance out of a person I've ever seen give. He plays like there is no tomorrow, give everything right here, right now. He went and got actual credentials to mix music and all that, so everytime I saw him, everything was mixed perfect. Usually everyone overmics their drums bigtime and hide behind it and they sound too muddled with or without ear plugs. Fancy Heros too. But when Megadeth plays, it's like he did a proper soundcheck. And everyone else, didn't. He really is the greatest. 05' August, Clark County Fairgrounds. Had Glen in the band maybe 1 month tops. Glen played great, but only played 2 guitar solo's... Dave played EVERYTHING. He did such a magnificent job, I thought man, I never knew he had it in him to learn everything and absolutely crush all those old guitar players he had. He was shredding like SRV. Just unbelievable. So sharp, so dedicated, so after it like no other... Someone said it couldn't be done, man got up and blew minds... He added stuff live, he went berzerk. He was an absolute unstoppable force if nature. Im standing there, 30 rows off to the right, they had a fire thing shooting out plumes of fire like on the record art. It was so hot, 35 minutes in, when one would pop up, oh my goodness, you had to look away because it burned your face. So I can only imagine what it was like on stage. What a Mountain of a man...

У самого Фреда лажи порой даже больше. Так что просто признаем: играть метал ахрененно сложно.

The more I think about it, the more there is to this section. I love how he starts with downstrokes, giving the rift heft but then incorporatea upstrokes letting it breath and develop a groove. One can see the blues influence for example, countered by some very heavy chromaticism later. The almost percussive nature of the attack. This is a very consice masterclass on motive development, on thrashmetal, on right hand technique... There is (if you're interested and willing to put in the effort) A LOT to take from this fragment.
