I never questioned why Navarro was/is a judge. I thought they stated pretty clearly that he's there as a client.

I’m really glad that they addressed why Dave is a judge. I know he gets a lot of hate for it, which he doesn’t deserve because Oliver is absolutely right: most of the tattoo community is the clients and not the artists, so it makes perfect sense to have a “client” as one of the judges.

It's also good that sometimes Dave asks Oliver and Chris things like "I actually liked this, what's wrong with it?" and then they explain what's technically wrong with it, which helps to educate the audience.

i dont think that questioned needed asking. I think dave answered it on the first episode when he said he is there for the canvas perspective. And i like the fact that dave says "I like this tattoo" whats wrong with it? because there is several tattoos that look badass, and then they make you look closer and ohhhh. I see.

I think it's really important to promote empathy and sympathy towards others within the tattoo community (which is known to be 'macho' and 'tough'). Deciding to get better, to recover, to share your troubles, to talk about your mental health... These are all positive actions. Suffering by yourself isn't 'cool' or 'being tough.' You don't have to be alone. You are not alone. Always feel free to ask for help. There are others who are going through the same thing, there are others who want to help. Take care!

Amen Dave. I've lived most of my life with depression(on and off) caused by disabilities/disorders, loved ones dying, and being on so much medication. My depression is one of my reasons I love getting tattooed, it helps me like acupuncture and it also helps me view myself in a better way! I agree that it does need more attention(especially with children). Yeah, depression is depression. I once almost hit rock bottom with my depression and that was the most darkest days of my life(I even had severe suicidal thoughts as a kid). One of my tattoos is actually based off my depression., it's my music speaks tattoo. It reminds me of how music saved me from my suicidal thoughts and reminds me that i'm strong.

Thank you Thank you for bringing awareness to the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide. I am not only a fan of your music Dave, have about 13 tattoos, a huge fan of the show, I am also a combat Veteran. I went through some really hard times when I got hurt and my military career ended. It was hard burying friends and soldiers who died when deployed, however, I have lost more friends since returning home. 22 Veterans commit suicide a day, that's one every 65 minutes. Many of us are dealing with PTSD, depression and substance abuse (through self medicating). You both have a platform that is loved by many Veterans, I am happy that you put yourselves out there and made this video.

I'm so thankful that you guys did this vid. It's nice to know that influential individuals are working with others to bring mental wellness to the forefront. Somehow in 2020, and at the time of this vid 2018, mental health problems still seem to hold such a stigma and it's important that we all put a stop to that.

Does a tattoo client appreciate their ink, their experience and their “presence” with what they wear? If so, GREAT!! As it’s really not about whether anyone else likes what another person likes. That was the appeal of tattoos, piercing, clothing options, hair styles, makeup and such at one time. Now that tattoos are mainstream, we “need” someone to tell us if it’s good?? First tattooed in 1978; bodysuit by 1986; multiple trophies, et cetera ad nauseum… What actually matters is whether I like what I wear! That’s the case for us all. Dave makes very good points in this episode; being vulnerable and solid at the same time!! Thanks Dave!

Awesome interview. Everything that's sayed was completely right. The addictions, the help, the depression, the feeling about it, the tattoo industry, the show inked master. Couldn't agree more with all those things 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I’ve always liked Dave, and I like him even more now. He’s very relatable, and I love how he explains depression so people can understand it’s not necessarily caused by traumatic events. It’s something wrong in your brain.

This honestly is the most amazing conversation ever. So real, so true, so hard, so sad, so uplifting, so helpful, so informational, so much of everything that everyone should listen to and really take to heart. This definitely hits home for me on many levels and means a lot. You just always have to look forward and never let your past or current situation control you. Nothing is impossible and with the right support and the right WANT to better your life it really makes everything worth while and will always help you out. As they mentioned, there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help or needing to talk to someone. With myself being someone who struggles with pretty much everything I can honestly say that the best thing I've ever done for myself was to open up and ask for help. Dont ever feel ashamed or embarrassed with what you have going on cause I guarantee ya that everyone else has something going on that they can use the same help. Life is amazing, you're amazing, stay amazing.

As a musician with a lot of friends that are (extremely talented) tattoo artists, the two worlds really go hand in hand. I love that you guys did this. I've always loved Dave's work from the time I was a kid in the 90's(10 year old me 1st heard him when Jagged Little Pill dropped and I read the liner notes) and I've always loved traditional tattoos so I learned who Oliver was a long time ago just reading my older sister's tattoo magazines. To have such a frank discussion about mental health.... all I can say is thank you ❤ our local scene in Seattle has seen so much loss in recent years and it needs to be addressed. MusiCares is a godsend.

I previously felt weird crushing so hard on a 53 year old man (I’m 30), just because he’s absolutely gorgeous and has such a gentle voice. Now I hear he has genuine empathy and a real understanding of suicidal thoughts, depression and mental health issues etc., AND supports vulnerable people in his industry. Jeepers this man is close to perfection! Battling suicidal thoughts and depression so hard lately I now love the phrase. “Who gives a F**k, as long as your breathing” (I don’t swear often, but this phrase seriously needs it).

U know depress heads like myself don’t commit suicide to kill themselves they just want a way for the emotional pain to stop when no other way is working for them. If we could make the pain stop without taking our lives then I think 99.9% would take that other option. It’s not that we want to die we just want all the hurt to stop.

Either that or you feel so incapable and non-functional that your mind tells you you are just a bother for other people. It's awful to constantly think that everyone would be better without me. But you gotta remember we are people! You wouldn't value your loved ones by their functionality!! You matter and people do think of you, and being in people's minds is valuable enough. If you are "a bother" to other people that means they love you and they would be very hurt without you. Stay strong everyone.

Dude. 🖤⚡️I loved you guys before. The authenticity, transparency, awareness points- touched me deeply. Yes crucial that you are sharing this stuff. The journey is steep, the price is high, we need one another and the destigmatization - level the playing field, bring light into the dark. It’s this kind of sh!t that moves me deeper into the work I do- and gives me courage to be vulnerable and tell more of my own story. Lastly- that 🎵 at the end. What a friggen treat 🖤🖤🖤🖤Bless your souls. Jai Ma.

Anyone else focused only in the movement of the toothpick in oliver's mouth? The back and forth dance with his mustache is impressive. 😂 Also, Dave wrote "Three days." That alone makes him qualified to judge whatever the f*ck he wants. Not to mention, "Ted, just admit it." LEGEND!!!

You also give a big platform to show proper techniques and how even if you as a canvas go in with something in mind it doesn't mean it will work or last. You have to really trust your tattoo artist to bring your idea to life. At least that's a big thing I took from watching Ink Master.

I went out with Dave in 1995 just a couple of times. Jane's Addiction were just getting started but getting popular (Esp @ Club Scream in L.A.) He was the absolutely nicest guy I ever met. He's honestly the coolest, charming guy to Everyone he meets. He liked me because "I didn't like his band". I treasure those moments. I knew if I saw him more I'd get my heart broken so I never answered or returned his calls while on tour w/The Cult. Girls lined up to give him roses & just to say HI. I walked up to him & said "Why don't you just bend over so they can kiss your....." & he was appalled how rude that was. See - he's so nice!
