I’m really glad that they addressed why Dave is a judge. I know he gets a lot of hate for it, which he doesn’t deserve because Oliver is absolutely right: most of the tattoo community is the clients and not the artists, so it makes perfect sense to have a “client” as one of the judges.

I think it's really important to promote empathy and sympathy towards others within the tattoo community (which is known to be 'macho' and 'tough'). Deciding to get better, to recover, to share your troubles, to talk about your mental health... These are all positive actions. Suffering by yourself isn't 'cool' or 'being tough.' You don't have to be alone. You are not alone. Always feel free to ask for help. There are others who are going through the same thing, there are others who want to help. Take care!

Amen Dave. I've lived most of my life with depression(on and off) caused by disabilities/disorders, loved ones dying, and being on so much medication. My depression is one of my reasons I love getting tattooed, it helps me like acupuncture and it also helps me view myself in a better way! I agree that it does need more attention(especially with children). Yeah, depression is depression. I once almost hit rock bottom with my depression and that was the most darkest days of my life(I even had severe suicidal thoughts as a kid). One of my tattoos is actually based off my depression., it's my music speaks tattoo. It reminds me of how music saved me from my suicidal thoughts and reminds me that i'm strong.

It was hard burying friends and soldiers who died when deployed, however, I have lost more friends since returning home. 22 Veterans commit suicide a day, that's one every 65 minutes. Many of us are dealing with PTSD, depression and substance abuse (through self medicating). Does a tattoo client appreciate their ink, their experience and their “presence” with what they wear? If so, GREAT!! As it’s really not about whether anyone else likes what another person likes. That was the appeal of tattoos, piercing, clothing options, hair styles, makeup and such at one time. Now that tattoos are mainstream, we “need” someone to tell us if it’s good?? First tattooed in 1978; bodysuit by 1986; multiple trophies, et cetera ad nauseum… What actually matters is whether I like what I wear! That’s the case for us all. Dave makes very good points in this episode; being vulnerable and solid at the same time!! Thanks Dave!

I stand with you. I am an artist with mental health issues and I think we do need to destigmatise the issue. I am especially proud of men coming forward. You are breaking in the door for alot of men. You both are manly men so you are really opening up the discussion. ;

Dave, from your eyes, I could tell that you deal with depression. You are loved and cared about. It can always be worse. Hold on to the tiniest of good things. It does get better.

As a musician with a lot of friends that are (extremely talented) tattoo artists, the two worlds really go hand in hand. I love that you guys did this. I've always loved Dave's work from the time I was a kid in the 90's(10 year old me 1st heard him when Jagged Little Pill dropped and I read the liner notes) and I've always loved traditional tattoos so I learned who Oliver was a long time ago just reading my older sister's tattoo magazines. To have such a frank discussion about mental health.... all I can say is thank you ❤ our local scene in Seattle has seen so much loss in recent years and it needs to be addressed. MusiCares is a godsend.

Impressed by Oliver's vocal skills!! You guys gotta put Núñez on drum or bass and we've got the ink master band... Keep rocking guys... Love you

Solid information from a couple solid dudes. Stickin around to the end was just a bonus, Oliver killed it!

You also give a big platform to show proper techniques and how even if you as a canvas go in with something in mind it doesn't mean it will work or last. You have to really trust your tattoo artist to bring your idea to life. At least that's a big thing I took from watching Ink Master.

If I had people like them in my corner I definitely feel like I would’ve been more open and upfront about my struggles. I’m so glad they’re talking about this.

Just started watching Ink Masters over the last couple of weeks and have been binge watching it and think Dave Navarro is the perfect host for this show, he is very sharp with his comments and isn't scared to put an artist back in their place if they start bitching too much. Good chemistry between the three as well.

The fact that they talked about mental health is absolutely amazing. This is a conversation that everyone should hear. If you need help, I hope that you can find it. You are loved, you are wanted, you are important. Please find help if that's something that you're struggling with. Thank you Dave and Oliver for an amazing conversation!

Great. Loved the song at the end. Oliver really had a beautiful voice 😃

Have that much more respect for these guys for having this conversation. I'm thankful I never went through with my sucide, but they said it. The people you least expect are struggling. My closest friend's and family didn't know I struggled until they were seeing me in a mental health hospital getting treatment

Absolutely amazing! Stoked to hear about solution, Dave and Oliver. Been struggling for years w my own addiction. I asked for help and have support today. Fentanyl and heroin took my soul and I realized I was at at my lowest bottom ever BUT there is a way out. I chose to place myself around sober people that work a program and am simply doing what they did aka following directions (for once instead of continuously letting the insanity in my head run riot) love you both for addressing this publicly 🤘🏼

Dave is great and real. Really appreciate him telling his story. Depression really sucks and it's really an illness. Who wants to isolate themselves and sob you feel like you're not worth anything no matter how hard you try. Please be kind. Thanks Guys

I'm so thankful that you guys did this vid. It's nice to know that influential individuals are working with others to bring mental wellness to the forefront. Somehow in 2020, and at the time of this vid 2018, mental health problems still seem to hold such a stigma and it's important that we all put a stop to that.

My dad is both a pastor and a director of a psych ward so it was commonplace to have schizophrenics and bipolar folks around from a young age. Now as a paramedic I love those people. For some reason, if you have a mental health issue you're some kind of monster. Sad deal.
@xXxphenomenaxXx5 жыл бұрын
Definitely. Coming from experience being on a psych hold, they treat you like you not wanting to live is such a disgrace to humanity. It's fucked.

Many points raised here get glossed over. Good stuff. 1. "Depression is depression" 2. A flexible, self-determined schedule can help people manage life with mental illness. 3. Social media, sadly misrepresents life, in general. Nice folks!

Great interview! My favorite episode was the one when the people with down syndrome designed the tats. Those tats were awesome and you guys handled everything so well. Kudos.

Bravo for that initiative!!! As a IV drugs addict myself for more than a decade with mental health issues... I struggle a lot during all my life... I'm now in my 40's, clean & sober and thank God I'm alive! But it's still really hard... But the thing is...you're right! I was always looking good, fun, happy... a shit load of people was speechless when they known the insane amout of drugs I was doing and how I was depressed for weeks in my bed... anyway... Thank you Dave & Oliver and everyone! Great interview!
