All I could think was, "I've never heard a person mention ER staff while considering a car or home loan, or how to invest." As in, every expert has their niche. Of course no one in the Er is calling for Dave Ramsey- it's not his territory! The writer came off as such a DB.

I love the saying "do what I do, and you'll have what I have". If I don't make the same sacrifices, or have the same disciplines, I won't have the same outcome. It's the law of sowing and reeping. FPU works...if done correctly, every time.

What people don't understand when it comes to others that had a "headstart" financially is that someone, somewhere down the line in that family, accepted a lot of pain with little personal gain. They worked hard and invested to build wealth and did not consume all that they made. In doing so, that person made the future generations more well off. This is what it takes to get ahead. If you didn't have the headstart, blame your ancestors if you'd like (though it won't do you any good to do so). Or you can be the one to accept the pain. You can be the one who worked hard and did not consume all you made, but instead saved and invested so that others that come after you may have a better life. This is how it works for everyone, for every family, all you do is have to begin to trace back. It isn't luck, it isn't fate. Someone made the decision to change everything. If you aren't already ahead you have the choice to begin to get ahead NOW. Make the sacrifice required to build wealth for you and your family that will last FOREVER.

Sounds like this guy needs to read The Millionaire Next Door where he compared Dr North and Dr South. I heard or read somewhere that medical doctors, airline pilots, and highly compensated actors were the best targets for con artists. I'm don't know if that's true but is seems to make sense. Making a lot of money and being in a dominant position so that a person starts thinking highly of themselves would make them ripe for the picking.
@itrthho9 жыл бұрын
+a11m0n I have relatives that are in the medical field. From what I have seen from them and their co-workers. Most M.D. are horrendous in financial matters. Spend to much to impress other Doctors, invest in speculative products of all manners, and are pitched often by con artists due to the high income. I have never heard any of M.D.s talking on how much they are saving or what's the best index fund with the lowest cost they have.
@knpstrr9 жыл бұрын
+a11m0n this person wasn't a doctor. Just some tech that thinks they are a doctor.
@DrogoBaggins9878 жыл бұрын
Eric Pratt You should read the book I mentioned The Millionaire Next Door. Dave has recommended it many times. In that book they compare two doctors who they call Dr North and Dr South. Dr North was like the relatives you talk about and Dr South was spending way too much and struggling even though he had a good income did not accumulate wealth. That book also talks about first generation Americans doing much better at turning income into accumulated wealth than their fully Americanized descendants. Also, direct observations are not theories they are direct observations. I have directly observed people with high incomes squander everything they made and drop into poverty in retirement. I have also directly observed working men control their expenses and become financially independent.

+Susan White I know of two teachers who did exactly what the Financial Peace University program taught, are now completely debt free, and investing 15% of their income and are on track to be multi millionaires by the time they retire. it can be done....even on a modest teaching income with precious teachers who work in our education field more for the love of what they do, over the modest income they make. :)

Dave, can you address the minimum wage argument and give your opinion on it in a video?
@jaymanxv9 жыл бұрын
+jbulldog104 It'd be nice to hear Dave's opinion here. My two cents is that minimum wage is a disadvantage to the poor, the young and the unskilled, because they aren't able to get a job that pays their current market value. If they were they would be able to learn a skill in order to significantly increase their value to the market in a few months of diligent work and receive an increase/promotion. It's the story of Joseph, from the pit&slavery to the manager of Potiphar's household and later the 2IC of Egyptian empire.
@JoshB979 жыл бұрын
+jaymanxv Well, are skilled workers also going to receive a raise? And, this is my main issue with raising it, if you think stuff cost to much now, imagine what will be like if they raised the MW.
@jaymanxv9 жыл бұрын
For the most part workers should and will receive raises in proportion to their value in the market. Wages should not be changed artificially by govt., they should be dictated by the market. You are correct, if MW is simply increased unemployment will increase because employers won't be able to afford to employ as many workers and/or prices(inflation) will also increase.
@fenian1238 жыл бұрын
+jaymanxv Wages for retail and food service workers are artificially low
@jaymanxv8 жыл бұрын
Question 1: What evidence do you have of foul play in terms of salary levels? Question 2: To which retail and food service workers are you refering? Statement 1: Some on that works for a fine dining restaurant, Chanel, Gucci and a manager or pharmasist working in Wal-Mart or CVS do not earn low wages because they offer higher value and/or a unique service. Anyone can pack shelves or serve food so it's a low value job that does not have the right to demand anything but a low wage. Statement 2: A food server or shelf packer should seek to become a supervisor and then a manager in order to increase their value and therefore their salaries. No one should stay in a minimum wage job. It is only a brief starting point for those who have low professional or economic value. This has almost nothing to do with someone's personal value though.

ON/OFF -- I have used that technique regularly. These guys are just pissing me off... Stop listening... Long list of shows I don't listen to anymore. Hell, Dave Ramsey has gone on and off that list. (The biggest reason someone goes off the list is that content is recycling... ) Ramsey's path is truly peaceful. Kiyosakis path is correct. It is not peaceful. Ramsey think I am crazy. I embrace Ramsey way more than I embrace Kiyo. There are just two camps... Owe nothing and Own Nothing (but control as much as you can). Most people (including me) are better off listening to Dave. I suspect even Kiyo would be better off listening to Dave.
