Dave Rubin babbled on about how he really respects monarchies. Ana Kasparian and John Iadarola discuss on The Young Turks. Watch TYT LIVE on weekdays 6-8 pm ET. kzbin.infolive

"DAVE RUBIN (HOST): Now, Prince Harry - I've talked a little bit about the royal family before. I always say, it's not one of my main things I love talking about the royal family. I think there's something interesting about the crown. Actually been watching the show on Netflix, The Crown. The idea of a monarchy, that something remains over generations, over hundreds and thousands of years so that there is a continuation of something, I think is a deeply stabilizing force in societies. Doesn't mean that everything they do is good. But there is some value in that as opposed to what we have here, which is every four years we just, sort of, pick a new team and then all our norms change, right? We had four years of Trump, four years of Biden - it's like, this massive flip. That was after four years of Obama. There's something to be said about a little consistency. "

Tying to explain a democracy to oxymorons is like trying to explain color to a blind man. A oxymoron; a monopoly train route in the private sector. Because one company will snach up a more profitable route and discontinue a less profitable route. Imagine if the government mail service did this. AKA socialism. Imagine if a hamburger chain did this, discontinue everything but the more profitable fountain drinks and french fries. Because of the oxymoron; Because the monarchs think the capital investment doesn't belongs to the community but the top 1%, though the share of means of production called stocks.

@@ReeRee_is_watching_you To be fair, not all monarchical systems were incestuous. The Egyptians sure, they kept it really tight in the family, where brother married sister. The Japanese feudal system was different in another way. If you were the adopted son of a Lord or Shogun, it made no defence than being a natural offspring. The Germanic scheme from Henry the Fowler to Charlemagne [it started to break down after that to some extent] nobility only got you the ticket to make an "application", you had to be voted in as king from the class of nobles. In other words, not only a good politician but a good leader, and an able administrator and successful general. That was the reason why the Carolingian dynasty was so successful for so long. The Spartan kings were also very merit-based. [In their case, "merit" being efficient murders of peoples in other cities]. But basically, kings were warlords, formalised in status by god-warlords. Of course the Roman Emperors didn't need god's OK but nominated themselves AS gods! In theory they did consult the Roman gods, but somehow high persists seemed to agree with the current tyrant's opinion that he deserved the top job, and was indeed, divine! :-) Not mentioned so far are Queens, who on average, far exceeded the talent of Kings. I guess with the misogyny of the day. A so-so dude would do OK, but a lady had to be exceptional to survive and thrive. Most people know or can name Queens more than Kings, despite the fact that there were fewer of them.

I live in the UK and would get rid of the monarch TODAY. A working democracy is far more important. In the UK we have a king that has announced he would promote religion ahead of the wishes of the 52% of British people that are not religious ( see British Social Attitudes survey 36). This is the same king (when he was a prince) that defended the paedophile bishop Peter Ball. The king is also Supreme Governor of the Church of England, which also supported Peter Ball. In 70 years on the throne the former queen never met with the 12%-20% of British people that are atheists, not once. Monarchy? No thanks. The US fought a war to escape the UK monarchy, keep the benefits of being on the winning side.

The UK monarchy is a constitutional monarchy and having the head of state stay the same can in fact be a stabilizing force in the country. You can still have a democratic government with a monarchy. The funny thing is that a lot of countries other than England actually do have royal families. These countries include Spain, Japan, Monaco, Malaysia, Morocco, Belgium, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands, just to name a few. The reason why many of you have probably never heard of these royal families is because they aren't the attention whores that the British royals are and the only time you ever hear about them is if one of them marries, dies, abdicates, or is coronated. The relationship that monarchs have with modern society should reflect the etiquette expected of one when meeting a monarch: they should not speak unless spoken to.
@Red1Green2Blue3
@Red1Green2Blue3 Жыл бұрын
They aren't attention whores but that's because most of them are corrupt (like many insanely wealthy people) and utilise their position to gain benefits an ordinary citizens would be unable to do - the Spanish king literally abdicated and fled to country to escape corruption charges. Monarchies NEVER reflect modern society because they are literally a relic of feudalism.

Harry and Megan are the perfect picture of royalty and I think thats why so many HATERS know it and are jealous because she's black, beautiful,graceful, and just a icon for women of color all around the world. I look at racism as a form of jealousy. To hate someone you don't know,never met, has done nothing to you is completely ridiculous. It has everything to do with their own low self-esteem and why they fear people who don't look like them and have surpassed social,educational, economical status that is equal or above their own. They feel so insecure of because our truth about history and how whites wealth is 80% profit from slavery. How the British stole the diamond from a child prince's crown ( on the queen of England crown now) over 400 million dollars stolen all from India. The united states profit from slavery is 6 billion dollars alone. So I can see why some people never want the past to be discussed in the present, but all that hate derived from a passed down history. It may not be a bad idea to know what our history books taught us but it's a good idea to know what the the truth about history really is. I'd rather know history truth ,being the good and bad , rather than pass on the lie I grew up with. The monarchy is fine because that's what you believe nothing but the funny thing is with Diana and Charles and they can divorce, Fergie and her husband can divorce, but Harry and Meghan don't want to deal with that crap, so they leave. With time comes change and the good people they, made William and Kate look less than. They were popular, devoted time to projects of charity around the world( like Lady Diana) and that wasn't William or kate, and so the Haters set in to do what they do best.... The sad backlash is Harry's & Megan's children won't receive any royal titles is ridiculous... All because they don't know how dark his skin is going to be? 😭 The world we live in

Rubin is already living in an imaginary monarchy where he's king of grifters pretending he's loved and accepted by the kingdom of the right.

So this is what some people in usa have come to conclude about the American president. Abraham Lincoln said, "Democracy is a rule of the people, for the people and by the people" means nothing to them. Conservatives are always happy with the current state of affairs because everything has run in their favour all their lives. They don't take kindly to their influence being diminished.

I think the British Parliamentary System works better in countries like Canada, Australia & New Zealand but it’s worse in Britain itself because of Hereditary Peers.

Presumably he's never lived under one so how would he know? by the way you can have a monarchy in a democracy as we in Britain have. It's a constitutional monarchy . we still elect prime ministers and members of parliament that actually make decisions on laws etc.. However I wouldn't recommend having one family as head of state .

Yes Dave, monarchy is so helpful for society that we being such a loyal subjects in 1776 rebelled against King George the third of house Hanover just because we thought he might be bored. We gave him so much amusement with that Mary little war that we decided to keep it going for the past 246 years so that our future sovereigns would not be bored. God save the King (Sarcasm).

So I'm guessing he isn't considering that the king would make him and his family toilet cleaners for generations. They never think that just maybe that they would be peasants under this new rule .
