"Dave Rubin has repeatedly mocked “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and said a few months ago Donald Trump stood guard against “barbarians… at the gate,” but he said Thursday he doesn’t think the former president should run in 2024.
Megyn Kelly spoke with Rubin and brought up new polling that Trump still leads among Republicans for who should be the 2024 candidate. Ron DeSantis is at 12 percent, and Mike Pence is at 13 percent, while Trump is at a whopping 47 percent. (Pence and DeSantis lead among Republicans who don’t want Trump to run.)
“It’s still Trump’s party,” Kelly said.
Rubin wasn’t surprised by the poll, because Trump is “fighting the machine” and “can still bring out the rallies.”
He boasted to Kelly that he’s “more proud” now of his 2020 vote for Trump, even though “it didn’t mean he was perfect.”
“What I would prefer to happen,” Rubin said, “is that Trump acts as the advocate. Keep doing the rallies, keep fighting the media, keep doing all the dirty work, be the bodyguard, so that, say, a DeSantis/Tim Scott ticket maybe could get through.”
He proposed Trump be the one on the outside doing “the dirty work” while a statesman like DeSantis leads.
“That doesn’t sound like Trump,” Kelly remarked."

Edit: to be clear, if Bernie hypothetically ran as an independent, there would be three major candidates, not two. He wouldn’t be running against, say, just Trump. He’d be running against Trump *and* the Democratic candidate, likely Biden or Harris. So it wouldn’t be a matter of just “beating Trump.” The Democrat and Bernie would split the vote of the so-called “left” in this country, leaving a clear path for a Republican candidate to take the White House.

Whilst it sounds good at first to not have to deal with right wing votes, them following Trump’s advice and not vote… It leads down a dangerous path. For a Democracy to function, you need all sides to participate in the game. If you allow a whole large group of people to shed the function of voting because they distrust the system, then the Democracy is not functioning properly. You also risk that group getting more and more radicalised. I am left wing, fully, I believe that Right Wing policies are mostly disgusting… but the individual people are not, even though you may disagree with them with politics, morals etc, that doesn’t mean that they are bad people. If you allow those people to become nothing more than the way they vote, by Trump telling them to not vote, and channels like this encouraging that behaviour, then your democracy is already on it’s death bed. The left need to be refuting this idea of Trumps, and begging the Right wing voters to vote, even if it means that they don;t win the next election, that’s what happens in democracy. That is the only way it works properly, or even get’s close to functioning properly… As insane as Trump is, as insane as his riled up followers have become (Trump is a master manipulator), by encouraging them to not vote, you too are putting your finger up to democracy. You need to focus, as do the Democrats, on Bi partisan messaging, on a schedule and audience level akin to what Trump used to have, not messaging about how bad Trump is etc, but on encouraging the thought of what democracy means. No matter which group has the power, it is about all groups keeping each other in check, which is done by sticking to the rules of the game, and agreeing to adhere to these checks; Which was Trump’s biggest problem, and the sole reason (as much as I hate his economic and political choices) Trumpism needs to be disbanded: Failure to comply with being kept in check and play the game of politics as has been established by the country. You cannot do this by slinging mud at the Trumpers, you need to do it by ignoring his message, and having a stronger message out there for all to hear, one of what it means to be in a Democratic society, and how rare this is, and how easily it is taken away.

I met Dave Rubin 5 years ago, and he told me that _Cenk_ had lost his mind. If it weren’t for the bankrolling angle that Cenk brought up, I’d say Rubin was projecting.

I'm not fond of Dave Rubin... at all... but even I have to concede when he brings a valid point, even though the rest of what he said I am against. His ego _should_ be put in check. But much like his maturity (or lack thereof), that may be a lesson learned too late. That being said, him stepping aside may be for the best... even though we still have many that are like a lesser version of him to deal with who are in power.

It's constructive criticism, not a shot. at least 99% of Trump supporters would agree with Dave Rubin. That doesn't mean they won't vote for Trump.
