The sly fox was a beast. I would have hated to have to face him. He knew what his opponents were going to do before they did. He was amazing. When someone as accomplished as Kurt Angle says Dave was the G.O.A.T. then that settles it.

I miss Jeff Blatnick’s commentary. He was very humble, knowledgeable, and a true advocate of the sport.

They were wrestling in the Maclellan Gym. That's on the UTC campus. The only D1 college wrestling program in Tennessee.

Stoic Ape all the wrestlers wear it, but this one has a particularly ugly design on it. It reminds me of all the ugly designs from the 1980’s.

At 1:40 I see an official spitting his chew (tobacco) into a bottle. I think this was emblematic of the times. Chewing tobacco gained public acceptance to a degree especially in venues that did not allow smoking. Many were under the illusion that it was not harmful.

@@daytonasayswhat9333 A takedown was 1, 2, 3, or 5 depending on how an opponent was taken down. 1 for basic 2 for straight to back 3 for a throw 5 if the throw was well executed

@@555dking He was a perfectionist. Also, he is exhausted lol. Have you ever Wrestled? Once you hit college...no easy matches anymore. Your hardest matches from high school...it's like that most everytime. So I can only imagine what it's like for an Olympic Wrestler.

Dave has really bad single leg defense. Not nearly as bad as that Russians gut wrench and top. Crazy how much better wrestlers are today.

Watching this match I would say a highschool wrestler with a winning record in 2021 is better than Shultz or the russian

I wouldn't say wrestlers today are better, I would say that in present day the number of top wrestlers is higher than back in the 90's, and it has to do with the ease of access to video of today, back in the 90's your only source of information was VHS, DVD, technique clinic, and wrestle in as many tournaments as you could, today all that information is just a couple of clicks way in a computer.

@@daytonasayswhat9333 the current situation is not because of enforced diversity or whatever. It's just those peoples often have strong traditions for wrestling. They are presented in way less proportions within Russian academic circles or any other occupation that requires high IQ.
