Part of the best era of Clapton. Plenty of recent heartbreak, unashamedly living the blues without pretense, and reunited with his 335.

Claptons playing peaked around this time,no question,from the cradle is a benchmark for any guitarist.
@matthewcasey47956 жыл бұрын
glenlake atnine . I totaly agree with this. The Martin Scorsese documentary, which accompanies this album, demonstrated Clapton at his best. Specifically the Freddie King segments. The speed, timing and phrasing from Clapton around this period is indicative of his experience, maturity and state of mental and physical health. In 1994 E.C. was truly a diety.
@andymccallum80906 жыл бұрын
technique wise maybe.... but his playing was super repetitive during the cradle era...i prefer cream era, blues breakers, journey man, and even 2000s... his playing from the cradle sounded super similar not saying it wasn't amazing just a bit repetitive. his tone was awesome tho.

Not sure if it's his '64 or not. I'm pretty sure when Gibson released the Crossroads 335 replica Clapton would've got the first of the batch. That's kind of standard practice.
@Pilgrim123456786 жыл бұрын
Mark Hoskins Perhaps, but in this video it is the original ‘64. For sure.
@CompleteCretin3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that '64 was an absolute beauty. He also had a sunburst dot-neck (not sure of the year right now as I'm writing this) that sounded sublime. You can see/hear it in the NY rehearsal vid from '94. I have a Cherry 335 from about 2000 or so and even that sounds fantastic (middle PUP selection). Shame I can't play at the moment due to finger problems.

This is a good example of what Clapton has that many others don’t, the tasteful and sexiness in his playing notes.

Playing the ES-335 that Lee Dixon, Clapton's guitar tech, described as the best sounding guitar he'd ever heard.
@gezatherton10715 жыл бұрын
Clapton and Gibson guitars were made for each other; especially him and his venerable “Crossroads” ES-335. He might prefer playing Strats but he genuinely sounds better here. His licks, phrasing and soloing is so fluid and effortless. That guitar was as much a part of him as Blackie the Start was.

Here he plays with his bare fingers: no picks, have you noticed? And he's so right on spot, bluesy and expressive. Oh, and yes I agree: he's way better on a Gibson. He played the 335 on many songs with Cream and during the From the cradle album/tour that are undoubtely among his very best artistic periods. The guitar tone is round, the sound is full-bodied and you can see how Eric loves playing on that

His solos don't have the development they used to have, also I like him better in either fast (Crossroads) blues or slow (Have You Heard)- hes got that great '50s BB King sound here though..
