another jonesy's jukebox classic. two spiky young herberts from back in the day, now two old farts shooting the shit together - brilliant. love the fact dave still has his accent and that as a lefty guitarist he plays with the strings upsidey-down

Fair play to Dave, a smart down to earth bloke and an somewhat under rated gifted songwriter. Great to hear his voice is still sounding beautiful. And to see he is still playing a right handed strung guitar upside down. That unorthodox style worked very With Andy Cox's right handed playing creating an unusual and distinctive sound on The Beats earlier recordings. It's crazy to see Jonesy finger picking and posturing like a black Jazz bassist with a big fat lip. Fantastic. Warm regards from Ireland.

I'm just curious as to how does someone learn to play guitar like that. I'm a lefty and always wanted to learn guitar but it put me off cause I'm thinking I will need to get guitar restrung and who does lefty lessons and I can't look at normal learning vids on KZbin without getting guitar restrung.

Best YT JJ clip by far. Dave is so quick witted he gave Steve almost too much material to run with. Bring him back Jonesy!

13:41 - Hawkwind! I saw Hawkwind in 1974 on Halloween in Detroit. Holy Shit, want to talk about a weird show. The dancing lady was on stage and Lemmy was on bass. It was surreal kids. Very strange. UFO was the warm up band. Them I liked,

@FungusMossGnosis
@FungusMossGnosis 6 жыл бұрын
Glenn puts me in mind of something Oscar Wilde said: " Education is an admirable thing. But it is well to remember, from time to time, that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught." All the practicing and perfecting of technique on guitar will never give you a personal style, sensitivity, feeling for the form. Those only come naturally, or by the grace of what ever. Steve has is. And I'd wager any amount that Glenn doesn't have it. Hence the spiteful words against Jonesy.

David Wakeling (born 19 February 1956 in Birmingham, England) is an English ska musician, known for his work with the band the Beat (known in North America as the English Beat), and General Public. Career I Just Can't Stop It, the first album by the Beat, included the singles "Mirror in the Bathroom", "Hands Off She's Mine" and "Can't Get Used to Losing You", which all entered the Top 10 in the UK Singles Chart. They also had UK hits from the albums Wha'ppen? and Special Beat Service. Wakeling then formed General Public with Ranking Roger in 1984, and they released their debut album All the Rage. He recorded two other albums with General Public, Hand To Mouth (1986) and Rub It Better (1995), shortly after which the act disbanded. He then produced the soundtrack for the John Hughes film She's Having a Baby (1988), in which he also recorded the title track. Wakeling released No Warning, a solo album, on I.R.S. Records in 1991 and has lived in California for a number of years. He regularly performs as the English Beat in North America[1], and has recorded two new songs that feature in the Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated episode "Dance of the Undead" which debuted in March 2013."Personal life Wakeling is divorced, with two children, Max and Chloe. He resides in the San Fernando Valley. In 1985, Wakeling announced in a press interview with Mother Jones magazine that he was bisexual.In a July 2012, Wakeling expressed concern over the United States' economic problems: "I have a nose tuned to the smell of the death of an empire, and I smell it now."[4] Discography[edit] No Warning (1991 I.R.S. Records) I Want More No Warning Remember in the Dark Every Time You Look at Me That Way Sensation Freedom Fighter One + One + One Sex with You I'm Not Ready She's Having a Baby

You probably have to be a true musician to remember and imitate the castanets, while singing Roxy Music's Dance Away: 18:49 After that a great, well-thought-out definition of how he imagined what The (English) Beat should be like.

I'm not a musician. They were not even real castanets just electronic ones. I also think he was taking the piss. Our US friends still have problems grasping our humour..
