I've said it before and I'll say it again. The greatest drummer that ever was or will be.

It doesn't really matter if you've said it before or not, he's still the _greatest_ drummer.
@musicdevАй бұрын
Not that will ever be. You have to remember this guy stands on the shoulders of giants, and how now become another giant. There are drummers today who look up to this guy and some of those drummers will built on top of Weckl's playing so much that they themselves will become giants.

No drummer who's ever lived has the feel Dave does. What this guy does behind that kit is not even fathomable. He is so musical, fluid, accurate and spot on it is almost beyond human. There are a few who have his skill, but no one has ever been better than this man.

Huh? I'm one of Dave's biggest fans but c'mon, there is no best. Lots of drummers play at the same level as Dave does. Vinnie, Virgil, Gary, Zach, etc., etc.

@Adrian_Franco He's definitely in the top 5 or 10. But, there is no best. Top 20, yes. Still, if you're going to have name someone, Dave is a great choice.

If you're in for ranking, you should explain your criteria. Technique? Taste? Innovation? How does Tony Williams, Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones, or Buddy Rich rank? What about Ringo Star, Bonham, Paice, and so on? What about Gadd, Cobham, Erskine? Can you compare them to Lang,Donati, Minneman, Borloi, Duplantier and so on? Weckl or Phillips? Or Chambers? You can't compare apples with pears, you just enjoy their uniqueness, resisting the automatic "He! He's the one!" that creeps in our mind every time we listen to something that resonates specifically in our mind.

I've watched/listened to this so many times now. It's the most incredibly awesome drumming from " Simply the best " drummer ever. Its electric , Dave is perfect , catches every hit , fantastic musical interpretation around the comp. It gives me goose pimples everytime. I could spend the rest of my life listening to Dave Weckl play.

I love Latin music…..grew up listening to Mongo Santamaria, Joe Cuba, El Machito, el Rey and others….and first heard Weckl on Michel Camilo’s first CD and became a big fan. For a gringo he’s fantastic at Latin grooves.

Yeah ...he's overdoing it...but my-f*cking-God...the sheer amount of 'drumming' that he manages to squeeze into every moment is freakin mind-boggling. And it's not random or chaotic or confused or incoherent or thoughtless or or or. It's lightspeed precision and split second placement all while being effortlessly musical at the same time. I only WISH more drummers COULD do this. Breathtakingly entertaining!
@joshuahornsby7676 ай бұрын
Lots of great drummers "over-do it". I don't always wanna hear drummers just stick to the backbeat. Sometimes i wanna hear a drummer throw caution to the wind and just SHRED.

What does "Plays Latin" mean? There are 30+ countries in Latin American. They all have their own musical histories and styles. Saying "play someone Latin" means absolutely nothing to someone who has studied the music of Latin America.
