Hey I made this account just to come here and say this. I just got hired as a bartender in a great bar with NO experience and it is because of the advice from Dave’s videos. I followed up with the owner by email after I applied and sold them on my people skills. The job was basically mine before I even showed up. Thank you thank you Dave The Real Barman!! Now I just need to learn how to bartend! Haha

This is a very helpful video especially when I am trying to get a bartending gig. I recently got my bartending degree and I am still having a hard time getting my foot in the door. Even with 3 weeks of experience in Miami Beach before going to Bart ending school to get the education I need I am still having a tough time. But I have found that every time I have confidence they are interested and when I find out I had experience in Miami Beach they are more interested but for some reason I am not getting my foot in the door. To me I view it as The universe telling me that it’s just not meant to be and to keep trying and trying. I will go as far as to applying to all the 200+ bars in my area until I land one. As you said in one of your videos if you nailed the interview with confidence and you still didn’t get a job it’s not a failure it’s learning.

I got HIRED at a really nice bar using the tips in this video! This information is amazing. Here’s what I did: - dressed at least semi-formally - had a resume and cover letter printed out and ready to hand to the managers - used an adapted script of what Dave says in the video Having a nice resume goes a long way and hiring managers will comment on it, especially if you have a “favorite drink” section with a recipe. Also, keep in mind the situation. I was offered a job at 3 of 5 places I applied shortly after stopping in, and a HUGE reason for that was because they were preparing for college students to leave and needed extra staff for the summer. So keep time of year in mind as you hand out resumes.

I have an interview coming up on Friday! I had one on Saturday. I have experience, I work in Las Vegas I’ve been a server, bartender and a barback. I’ve completed bartending school, as well as the Union bartenders craft exam. I am ready!! I just have trouble showcasing my experience, value and personality. I get nervous and tongue tied a bit.

Very helpful video. So I live in the baby area, and I’m currently working for a landscaping company and well it’s not a very exciting job, sometimes I hate going to work. But I make around $1,000 a week after taxes. I want to become a bartender, but I’m afraid I won’t be making as much? My rent is super high, plus all my other bills, so I need to be making good money in order to pay them. Do you think it would be a risky move?
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman3 жыл бұрын
Hey Double, the good thing about the bar/restaurant industry is that they need all sorts of workers: part-time, full-time and everything in between. My suggestion if you want to do this is to look to get hired at a place that needs help 10 - 15 hours per week (or whatever you can handle) so you can gain some experience and do it on the side. Then from there, you can scale up your hours or try to then get hired by a place who wants someone full-time. This way you can hedge your risk and keep your landscaping job until you're sure this is what you want to do. Best of luck to you.

I have a question, do you have to learn flair bartend or you do not need to flair to be a rockstars bartender? And do you flair bartend yourself?
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman3 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, no you do not need to know flair to be a great bartender. Flair bartenders are very rare and usually only show up in Vegas and other similar venues. I never became a flair bartender because I felt like a bit of a douchebag doing it. I'm not saying flair bartenders are douchebags. They are quite talented. I was just uncomfortable with showing off to everyone how many hours I had put in flipping bottles and catching them on my elbow.

I think sometimes desperation is a catalyst for ambition but you further explained better what you meant
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman3 жыл бұрын
You're right Alejandro, desperation can be a good thing when you're figuring things out and you need that fear and angst to help motivate you. It's sort of that rock bottom to bounce off of, but you don't want it to show when trying to get what you want. It's like a repellent to people. Cheers.

With covid should I shake the managers hand what you think ?
@DaveAllredTheRealBarman3 жыл бұрын
Great question Leah. Shaking hands is the more traditional greeting, but with COVID going on, you might want to respectfully stay away from shaking hands. You can feel the situation out, or give a fist bump, or you can just introduce yourself with confident smile and put your hand up to greet with a quick gesture of hello and then start talking.
