MX5 is one of the best series in the world, both in the sim as in real life. If you haven't seen any real life races, you really should look into it. It puts the premier series to a shame when it comes to racing.

Completely agreed on both points! I l can’t help but laugh that one, if not my number one, favorite cars in iRacing is the Miata lol. I need to catch up on the real life series though, I was watching every race for awhile earlier this year then fell behind.

Unless you're stuck in any of the bottom splits in iRacing. Then the MX5 series is some of the worst racing in the world. It's a mess.

One of the things I like about you Dave is that you said it was one of the best battles in years. At that point I though for sure 1st or a very close 2nd. The spin was a nice surprise (sorry haha) and reminded me that you’re different to other KZbinrs. You’re more like us. 😉 Small criticism: when the racing is that epic, and when it comes down to a last lap mistake, I was disappointed that you didn’t spend a minute on that on the end. A nice slide on the high line like that, it would have been great to analyse it in more detail. Cheers as always Dave.

I feel for you in that spin, been in a lovely battle many times and over enthused on the final lap, like you say though the battle is what counts and if you don't hit anyone else you don't have to feel bad!

Bottling it on the last lap hits too close to home. I raced Okayama with what I didn't know at the time was a broken brake pedal (the spring had nearly completely snapped in my cheap T150 set). Despite driving wounded, I was 5th on the last lap of a 40 minutes top-split Sim-Lab race and coasting home when I dipped a wheel into the grass after the double-left and spat the car into the barrier. Race over. The worst thing about this one was the 'clear' call just before you turned in. Didn't even need to leave the space, but too late to take the normal line. Great result though, and also demonstrates why it's handy to have a couple of spare 1x in your pocket near the end of a race.

The 9 car had a lot of incidents similar to what I have when driving where the back is breaking away, especially the first couple shown of that car. I would love to see a video where you look at these sort of things and what the driver did wrong.

I noticed that Dominic Martenelli , he has godlike stats and only started at the end of Nov 22.. Had a race earlier on Oulton, my first time in IRacing , was in 2nd till Jim opened him big mouth on the last lap "Keep Focused we are on the podium" ......spin crash in cascades. Great race and great driving by all three of you. You don't get to be 9k+ without being patient and having respect for other drivers. If he harassed you and went for every opportunity and you both came to together then you could have done the same as payback which may have ended both your races. We all know you are not that kind of driver but unless he is a viewer then he wouldn't have known. I think just before the spin, you went a tad too deep as he backed it off, you then got wide into the marbles and possibly could have come down before that but in the heat of battle and doing the right thing to give room without knowing you had the room to close the door you didn't know. Shame it had to end that way but as you said "I don't mind finishing third after a race like that." Shunsuke was also being patient just sitting back there waiting and hoping something would happen so he could sneak through for a win. Probably how you would've driven too and been thinking of you were back there in third. It is how I do some of my races. I am not the best driver and usually towards the back but sometimes if I know I expected to finish in the bottom 3, I just cruise around and wait for the carnage to then make my way up. Especially in the Skippies as usually once you have a crash it is race over.

Hm, i think the reason is in diff lock after downshift to 1st. That throttle blip (auto?) was not enough to neutralize it)

About 2 or three updates ago, the Mazda became uncontrollable for me. I used to love this car but now I can't keep it on the track during braking. At full song, I hit the brakes and the car fishtails so badly it's ridiculous. I don't know what happened but I can't drive it anywhere now. I hate it. Any suggestions, Dave?

Dominic looked like what Mick Doohan would often do in the later part of his career. He’d hang back at the beginning of the race, pressure his opponents to make mistakes & use up their tires, then he’d take off in the second half of the race.

Sometimes that is all you need to do. With racing that close, he may have been thinking that on the last lap they get tangled up and leave it wide open to just cruise through. It is what I would have done. Mind you I am too slow to even be in that position LOL

Dominic Martinelli is the plague of the mx5 series. he joined in November of 2022 & has already run somewhere around 5000 laps, almost exclusively in mx5, and amassed 9k+ by winning 75% of his races bc he’s only tested against competent drivers in one of every 6-8 races & dude LIVES on the service the past few months. he’s truly gaming the system for that irating. would easily drop to a 6-7k if he ever went on to higher license series. He’s Campbell James2 version 2.0.
