Absolutely amazing as usual, Dave. I really like the use of the engineering brick colour for the retaining wall as it helps to break up the scenery and looks very realistic in that context. The model of the linoleum works is testament to your exacting standards and I believe it will look fabulous once in situ. All the best. Simon.

Nice job on the Nairn building. Scratch building does take a bit of time. I have some buildings I have "thrown" together in short order but another that is still evolving after two years! The engineering brick arch retaining wall looks good - I especially like the lime mortar streaking you've done. Cheers

Very interesting update Dave. You always go the extra mile with detail. I tend to go for the blue locomotives with yellow ends so I may buy one of those. My current favourite 47 is the boxed special edition (with a steam engine) with union jack on the sides. I do like the sound versions. PS I like Heljan models. I have six.

Good video there Dave, thanks. Your scratch building has always been good, but I feel that you've taken it to the next level with the lino factory (part one). Looking forward to seeing what part two looks like now. That 86 is a nice loco too, and I always feel that weathering a loco always really adds something to it as well. I'm not sure that I would ever be brave enough to try it though, given how much locos cost these days!

Cheers Kevin. I’m really proud of that build. I like to push myself to do new features and while it looks a fairly simple build, it was a real challenge to get it all looking as it should. I don’t rush and throw things together so Im really chuffed. Part 2… and 3,4 and maybe 5 and 6 will take shape over the weeks, months and years. Part 3 will be a bigger build. But I need a rest from scratch builds for a few weeks :-) I’m mentally involving. Cheers.

Enjoyed watching that, Dave. Well done on the lino factory: it's looking great. I remember when used to nick McDonalds straws for that sort of pipework! At around 6:55 you mention picking out the edges of the window vents with silver to give an impression of the metal showing through: I picked up a great tip from a German model railway youtube channel (Sebb ́s 1zu87): he uses a graphite pencil to run sparingly over painted "metal" to show where the paint's worn away, and the base metal shows through. Seems to work really well, so could be worth a go?

Impressive Modelling as always.... I wondered about the symmetry of the build, but still great. Would of thought the staff room would of been easily identified by the extra windows. Another guess would be the tower is a lift shaft of sorts. Thank u for another masterclass

Hi, thanks. This large building in real life is a pure heavy manufacturing building, so I would doubt a staff room etc would appear in it. Nairn’s actually had a very large purpose built canteen/staff room on their vast sight. Cheers. Dave

Hi Dave firstly the new scratch building looks really good, as always you've done a first class job. As for the new class 47s I'm also tempted by the Swallow livery deluxe version. I understand that they are expensive and lots of people are having a moan but my thoughts are that if you want one then we have got time to save up for it, as I have with my accurascale pre orders. Having said that I'll only be getting the one. Enjoyable watch again atb Andy

If I get a new bachmann 47, I'd go all out. However, the money is way too much for me right now. I'm struggling with paying more than £120 for a standard model, yet the standard one of these is twice that. Unsure of the livery, might go with swallow too since my only swallow loco is my 91.

Great update there Dave the building is looking Great and is really coming along, can’t wait to see it finished and in place on the layout. I don’t really mind locomotives that have had the white colour treatment like that triple grey class 47, I’m not really one for weathering my locomotives because I like them to be in pristine condition but when I have a locomotive that is weathered weathered I don’t want it to be overdone, I actually like locomotives that have been treated to white paint on certain parts of the locomotive because it makes them stand out more and and it’s something different, I’m also likely to keep it in that condition, I have recently painted the wheels and certain parts of the bogie on my silver fox class 89 kit because I saw a photo of it in that condition. The new bachmann 47 will be a great model when it gets to the market, as for the price it is very expensive but at the end of the day if people have been asking for features like the feature on the cab windows and moving fans they have no right to complain about the price because they have wanted those features to be included as standard, if they don’t like the price they have other options to them but at the end of the day they are missing out on the features that they have wanted for years, you can’t please everyone and in all honesty some people just love to have a moan about something. If I ever have the money available I may treat myself to one, if they do a virgin livery in the future I think that is the one I may go for. The heljan 86 also looked really good and being an AC electric fan myself I will probably get hold of one at some point, not sure what livery I would go for at the moment.

Dave, the real 47 windscreen was much the same, depending on what angle you seen it from, I think this is a good modification from bachmann. Back in the day of the old Hornby 47, I used correcteen fluid for typing, but it stayed a purple - pink colour instead of two tone. Ps love the new building, top marks

I can see you like snowploughs on the locos running on your splendid layout. Would they still be fitted in late summer (stated theme period) or removed and kept at the service centre?? Suggestion: The new grass area to the left of the station has no wire underneath but lots of storage potential, how about a few hinged flap doors cut into the vertical ply facia?

Just another comment .... This time on the Class 86 at 36:12 ... The head-code looks wrong as the numbers and letters are way to thin. ... They should be slightly thicker, and the prefix 1 should be centralised on the rolling blind - not set to the outside edge !! ... The side profile at 36:31 also looks terrible. .... Let's hope this is a prototype error and they improve these details before it is available to purchase ?

Interesting. I’ve not really studied the head code versions so didn’t spot the lettering issues. :-)

Westhill and SMS have evolved into serious players, just by listening to what people want and keeping the quality high. Fair play to them both.👍 On the other hand, we now have an 86 that can't couple to anything without modifications being made - not really "ready to run" then?🤔 As for the operational fans on the 47: they've maybe got this one right. I don't think many folk will want to pay for an extra motor, so only putting this feature on the top-end model might be the right move. At least you get the choice/option. The cab detail will look great, if the lights are on but, as you say, will anyone really notice? Your Nairn factory really looks the part Dave, a lot of work but time well spent. Are you planning "Nairn's" signage, or are you going to personalise it? "Dean Park Dave's Shiny Flooring Co Ltd" has a ring to it but makes for a pretty long sign.😁 A very enjoyable, varied update. Surprised you don't have more subs. They will come though; Dean Park is becoming one of the better layouts on YT - Well done.👍😁

As usual, stunning Dave. Attention to detail, should be your middle name. Truly mind numbing the lengths you go to. I bet the more fluent Scottish comes out when your building, painting the finer details. Is that build of the Lino factory based on the one that used to stink out Kirkcaldy? I also share your passion on 47s, the Intercity and 2 tone grey look amazing and the Banger blue livery looks more authentic. Not my money to spend but if I could spend your money, not that a Scotsman would give his money up without a fight lol, the 2 tone grey would be my choice of 47. 47004 as you already know had a spell in the early 80s at ED, apparently it was unofficially named Monster but it may have been BR Blue then. Though I stand to be corrected on that, I'm not totally sure. However Many thanks for sharing though Dave. Keep up the fine work.

Excellent video Dave. That factory looks awesome. As a newbie to this railway modelling would a release of a newly tooled Class47 impact the second hand price of an old version?
@DeanPark
@DeanPark 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks I’m not sure it will… as the current 47 is excellent and highly desirable. It also came in one off liveries or specifically named locos that are unlikely to be reproduced by Bachmann going forward. The new one is over £200 for the base model, which is out of reach for many modellers. So I still think the current model will be popular. Plus!… the new one looks extremely similar to the old one! So modellers won’t be selling off their current models to replace them with the all new ones!

Great video as always Dave, Retained walls ... i half inched some off from a layout clearance on one section - for the part of my diesel repair/ long term maintenance shed section whereas the electric shed end goes for a newer look retained wall - the Class 47, hmmm, it looks nice enough, i was more interested in the Heljan Class 86 ... I am a bit disappointed Bachmann have not pushed on with the readying the next releases for the Class 90 having had the 3/4 releases and then nothing for eighteen months - hopefully, they'll have this on their workbench, dealing with the discrepancies in time for Christmas maybe but DB / EWS next please Bachmann :-) Kat@johnsonstreetIEMD

I think you have made a great job of copying the finer details on the factory like the brick pillar at the corner of the railings. Things like that make a lot of difference to the end result. The class 47 looks good. The windows always something I noticed about them and the Peak having a blue colour, but not sure about the price, when running on a layout you are not going to notice anything different over the old version. For a loco depot layout where it is parked up with the cab lights on it may be worth the extra cost so I would have to think hard about buying one. The class 86 on the other hand I will buy, I like the smooth running motors they use and have found their other locos to be very reliable. I rather have something that works well with a little less fine detail than a loco costing far more with detail I am not going to see. The tool boxes and tools look great. That kind of detail I do like to add to my buildings and a detailed lit workshop by the lineside adds a focal point when there is no train passing.
