Just what I needed Dave!!!! I bought, some years back, an expensive compressor and spray gun and I am about to set up a spray booth to do a vast amount of stock work. I could not have asked for a better explanatory video, and my low confidence level has risen dramatically, and just at the right time too. What I particularly like about your "tutorial" videos is that they are presented in such a simple manner that all is thoroughly explained and presented in a friendly as opposed to dictatorial way. Thanks Dave. Very much appreciated. Cheers, Bob

Robert Temple hi Bobby! I’m chuffed with my product, it makes such a massive difference. As for the sharing of info etc, that’s why I started my channel. To share and document my progress. Sadly there may be some who see this is a competition and thinks subs mean king!... how wrong they are. There are better modellers than I who have a fraction of the subs. Some may chase ‘fame’ at expense of their modelling skills. I do my thing and hope people enjoy it. Cheers. Dave

Hi Dave, just wanted to say it was a pleasure meeting you at the open day, I was the one who said I was interested in trains in Miami and it was fun talking to you (I will keep that raffle ticket trick in mind for later 😀) and I hope you enjoyed the competition. Eddie

HO scale Miami Switching layout hi. It was really cool chatting with you and thanks for saying hello. Your Miami theme sound great. As I said, if you could do something a bit different to the usual layouts it will attract interest. By the way, We didn’t win the competition (the steam era one did!), but it turned out really cool in the end. Our layout did however raise the most for charity, at £55. It was bought by Andy York, of BRM magazine who’s going to use it in publications. Good luck with your modelling and I look forward to hearing from you again in the future. Cheers. Dave

Hi Dave. Another great review from you there buddy. I have a project going on at the moment as I am rewiring my Hornby Class 60 as the lights stopped working and after doing some checks with my Multimeter. I am suspecting that there is a broken wire because the cab unit lights work fine so that will save me the hassle of buying new ones. As for your Mk3's here and the other videos. Your modelling projects are inspirational and very useful. Not sure if I told you about this before but I add Kato drivers into my model trains that lack drivers which is most of the Hornby stuff and I am looking into replacing the plastic handrails on the Hornby Class 60 models I have with metal ones that I am going to make using 0.45mm brass wire because I am not happy with the "buckled" look that has occurred with some plastic handrails and they are a pain to fit back on when they come off. So I will use a pin vice and some araldite to hold the new ones in place. I avoid anything glue-wise from poundland because that UHU glue is just crap and the parts don't hold into place and it leaves a horrible grey fog on the surface. I like to share my experiences with other modellers to help them avoid making the same mistakes as I have done :). In September, I will be starting work on Bloomfield Lea Road that is a fictional TMD based from 2000 to present day using British and Irish model trains. In the real world, this would never be the case but in the world of model railways. I believe is "what you fancy - does you good" and if they ever build a rail link between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Perhaps Scotrail could use HST's from Edinburgh to Belfast and Belfast to Glasgow workings and maybe NI Railways could buy some HST's for those workings as well. Anyways, I have the plan of Bloomfield Lea Road on my channel's community page if you wanted to see the plan mate and the first video will up around August/September once I have the two baseboards. All the best Ash.

Hi Dave. Literally just unmasked my first resprayed coach of what will be three named WCML InterCity Pullmans, and the transformation is really remarkable! I'm far from expert at this but the smooth shell of a Mk3 seems easy to mask properly, with almost no lumps, ridges, etc. I've even resprayed the upper dark grey. Chuffed with the result, and makes up for me cocking up an attempt at aluminium window frames earlier!! Just 33 more to do...! Cheers Rich

Hi Dave, I was so pleased I got to speak to you and meet you in person, made my day with great banter between all, loved your bag pipes jingle to win hearts of the layout 😂 made us all laugh in the room. My Question regards the Spraying technique in this blog, i noticed while you were spraying you had a face mask on, but what are the reference numbers to cartridges that you used/whore in the face mask to prevent harmful paint vapours being breather in while you pray...? I have a Goggle and two cartridges (L/R) as a single mask set by 3M. Can I put any other type of cartridges in the mask other than 3M...? or do they have to be 3M as it’s a 3M mask, i’m also guessing 3M are the leaders in Protection over perhaps other cheaper brands. Hope you enjoyed you extra few days after the show.

DaveClass47 Hi Dave You have a good memory! For the handrails, I used a 6” steel rule with a strip of cork on the back, so as not to damage any paintwork, and the black was done with a Staedtler permanent Lumocolor with a fine tip. I also use this on my resprays when a fine black line required around window frames. Used it on 56103 which Steve showed on His Instagram advert. Best regards John

Hi, thanks :-) I’m extremely pleased by the improvement. It you’re right, in this day of digital paint matching it seems beyond comprehension that a new company would be so dogmatic and believe their one is correct, even when it’s wrong!! When is Oxford rail going to produce the Intercity and scotrail versions again with the silver lining and the beige grey sort of color?
@DeanPark2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think you’ll see Oxford do the mk3 coaches again! For one main reason: hornby bought them over and are now doing brand new mk3 coaches of their own! This is a shame in some ways, as the interiors of the Oxford mk3 are excellent. As are the Gangway end details. Which still look to be better than the new hornby version. However, the Oxford coach is not with out it’s issues. For example the coupler is awful. It sags and falls apart too easily. Then the shape of the underframe is not right…it still looks good on the model but it’s not accurate. The livery colours Oxford used were all wrong! I’ve repainted the bottom and top band of my scotrail and INTERCITY coaches and now they look great. Oxford said people wanted ‘accurate colours’ so they claimed to have listened and given us accurate colours. But they didn’t! So in short, I don’t think you will see another run of these coaches. Despite them being the only MK3A (hornby only do the HST versions with no buffers) on the market.

Hello again Dave we spoke a while ago about manufactures getting colours incorrect, they go to great lengths to get models as accurate as possible then get the colours wrong. You have done a terrific job on the Mk3s and now all loco and coaches match, you will be well chuffed. I also have a large loft layout and it gets up to almost 100 degrees in summer, I bring ALL my 60+ locos and countless wagons and coaches downstairs (into the house) to prevent them being damaged from the heat. I am approaching 75 years old and it is getting too much for me (going up and down on loft ladder), my question to you is:- am I being overcautious? do you leave all your rolling stock in your loft over the summer and if so has any damage been done to locos/rolling stock?. I hope you don't mind my asking you this. Cheers Dave from one Watson (Bill) to another.

I've thought about doing this on their IC liveried coaches. It is annoying to have to repaint a new model to make it look right though. Even ones in the £30-35 bracket. That said, I think they did a better job than Hornby did (they obviously took the nick name "raspberry ripple a bit too literally!). Bachmann seem to have got it about right but nowadays they are charging nearly twice that price for their coaches and for me that is just not affordable :-/ You made the job look surprsingly easy here and the result was very satisfactory. Re-paints is something I've not really done so I'm lacking in the confidence there especially knowing I'll be using an airbrush 😅 I'm really keen to have a bash at re-paints and having a rake of nse coaches all in the wrong shade of blue is a project I'll be doing fairly soon.. likewise I'm a solvent paint lover and only just started using acrylic - with good results on layering and creating effects etc. That said I'm more confident now using acrylic than solvents.. lol. But knowing the solvent paints leave a better finish I'll be doing my nse coaches in solvent paint and I've never done it!. Was the railmatch paints you used solvent based and did you thin down to any ratio before airbrushing?

The Scrap Line Hi mate. Thanks. Go on get yer airbrush on the go! Lol I thin almost 50/50 but you’ll get away with a wee bit thicker, depending on air pressure. I used about 25 psi for this mix with the coaches. If you do it, hell I might get rusting some wagons lol!! Cheers Dave
