Morning Dave another very enjoyable video I do enjoy the history of the places you visited good stuff.

Thank you Craig. It always amazes me how much history some of these small hamlets & villages have - when you delve back deeper in time!

Cold clear days are my favourite for walking in. However that looks freezing - well done brilliant walk.

Thank you. it was certainly a "fresh" day!

I really enjoyed readings from Trewes book, seeing Poxwell, amazing views from Portland and those mystic Poxwell stones

Amazing countryside walk through the village and in the fields with stunning views

Thank you Keith. It is a beautiful part of Dorset around there.

Imagine how many old lovely churches that has been lost through the ages. ...thousands probably. Too bad. What a lovely area for walks that was on the downs, and the views!
@DaveFord9 ай бұрын
I think that stretch of the "downs" is one of the best for views for sure.

I remember those cottages demolished in the early 60's when the road was a single carriageway and warmwell roundabout was warmwell cross roads 😊

Hi Dave and Logan - another lovely Dorset walk. I really enjoyed this, but I often don't get chance to watch as many of your videos as I'd like to - being a KZbinr too, with, as you know, all that involves. I live in Gloucestershire, but recently did a walk down to Eype and across to West Bay. Very attractive church at Owermoigne - particularly liked the stained glass there. Some really lovely views on this walk. Thank you! Take care, Paul

Thank you Paul. That section of the Jurassic Coast from Eype to West Bay is quite spectacular for sure. Cheers. Dave.

What a lovely walk on a cold but sunny day. A countryside walk is the best ones. The views are beautiful and Logan seemed to enjoy his walk. Just a gorgeous day and scenery all around. Thanks Dave and Logan☀️

Thank you Melissa. There are some super views to be had at the top of Moigns down for sure.

A lovely walk. You’re fortunate to have the weather. Here in Scotland it’s just too cold, wet and windy. Every time I see a standing stone or circle it has me wondering about the people who built it and then used it.

Thanks Dave - lovely walk. Interesting to hear about how these places came by their names. I always imagined Poxwell had something to do with the plague that came in via Weymouth, but apparently not.

Thanks Angela. there are some great views to be had around that part of the county.

One of those sparkling but cold winter day walks with the low sun giving some stunning views and long shadows. I wonder how far those sarsen stones had to travel to the stone circle? Logan looked like he really enjoyed the readings from the Treves tome as I did. Loved that view south to Portland and the sea - so beautiful. Thanks for another super video.

Thank you Jean. That trek up t the top of Moigns Down was certainly worth it for the views.

Very interesting, didn't know about that little stone circle. Great to see Logan with his nose down along the route, scenting the ground and of course, posing on the trig point and having a game of ball! I have heard Poxwell pronounced as 'Pokeswell' - no idea if that is a local thing or what!? Wish that lovely blue sky would return - fed up with grey clouds and fog!!
@DaveFord9 ай бұрын
Yes, I think that Logan enjoyed that one!

I know the area well. I was fortunate enough to live in Poxewll Manor. One of the elder and life-long residents showed me the stone circle, but swore me to secrecy which gave it a certain mystique.
@DaveFord9 ай бұрын
What a magnificent place to live I should imagine. There was something mysterious about those stones for sure! Thanks for watching.

I found a copy of Fredrick Treves Highways and Byways of Dorset in my local charity shop. He was quite an interesting man in his own right. Apparently Michelin Guides offered him the contract to write the Dorset part of the books series in recognition, and as a reward for performing an emergency appendectomy on the future King Edward VII just prior to his coronation.
@DaveFord6 ай бұрын
That is interesting - I never knew that! He certainly was never afraid to write down exactly what he thought about a place ..... never sitting on the fence!

Beautiful scenery Dave and well researched. "You may hear a sniff and heavy-breathing", that reminds me of an Ian Dury and the Blockheads song (showing my age there), any ideas which?

The stone circle is a bit "out of the way" but worth a visit, if only for the great views up on that ridge.
