Lin, Thank very much I have to admit I did a lot of research on paint combinations and the this Imperial Maroon & Biscuit just hit the spot for me! Cheers Dave

I knew that Skinner made great upholstery kits, I didn’t know that they also did upholstery work. Did you send them your seat frames?
@ClassicCarCave Жыл бұрын
Lin, Yes we sandblasted the frames and sent them to the UK and Skinners has made a beautiful job of them. Cheers Dave

Oh What a Beautiful XK150, the Colors sure are POPPING! You sure Know what your going to do Next on it, " We CAVE MEN APPROVE! " One Thing made me say "what! ! " Sell that Perfect Restored E-Type! Say it was just " Gas! "

Thanks very much I‘m very happy with the colour combo 😉 My wife and I have talked about the E Type and luckily we don‘t need to sell but we also don‘t want it to become a museum piece and not be used in the way it deserves to be. Finding the right buyer at the right price might take some time🤔 Cheers Dave

Couldn't agree more about the grey seat bases: they will look much better colour matched to the seats. Generally, I'm in favour of retaining originality, but the work you have done to this car is stunning and appropriate to the marque. You have saved the car from decrepitude and no-one should criticise you for making tasteful adaptations to suit yourself and your wife so that you can enjoy the fruits of all the investment you have made in the car, not only in financial terms but also in the pains you have taken to find good quality reproduction furnishings. If there is a suitable aluminium strip to protect the edges of the carpets at the door openings, I think that they would be a worthwhile addition provided that the don't harbour dampness. I really look forward to seeing the completed vehicle in all its glory and wish you and your wife many miles of happy travelling in it.

George, Thank you so much for your kind comments. I always try to keep any vehicle I restore or work on aesthetically correct but upgrading brakes and steering to me is a safety issue rather than being anal about originality which I often say is a an Over used word 🤔 At the end of the day we will go with what‘s we like best but it‘s always interesting to see what the viewers think, I don‘t have that many viewers but the ones I do have support my channel on a regular basis. Cheers Dave

Trim/upholstery is looking spectacular...got it spot on. Your judgement in pragmatic mods over originality is right, a pain but getting the seat frames to tie in with the biscuit seats is the right move Dave. You may find that your damper type hydraulic boot assists are a better long term solution than spring helpers in any event - won't take that much for a local upholsterer to trim out the base fixing!? Take care (have located and bought an 'XK150 explored' by B Viart - almost requiring a mortgage!!!)

Dave, Thank you very much! I will paint the angles I made for the boot rams the same colour as the interior so it will be camouflaged against the boot mat. Glad to hear you found the book and I know what you mean about how expensive they are but not only are they invaluable but a work of art. Cheers Dave

Looks brilliant! BTW, turn the gear stick to front angle...worked very nicely and fits well on one's hand...at least worked on my FHC XK150 😊

Martin, The Tremac T5 gearbox has the facility to turn the gearstick around which from looking in the car looks the same as the moss box. Cheers Dave

Martin, Yes i have the 5 speed T5 Tremac box which is much smoother but I have kept the original moss box. Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, On the healeys the base frames are vinyl covered to match the seats. This looks absolutely perfect and i think yours would look better covered than painted. Regards, David.

David, That's interesting I didn't think about covering the frame 🤔 it‘s food for thought but the vinyl may be hard to attach to the metal frame ? Cheers Dave

Hi Dave . Majorscopes idea is spot on and vynal will easily glue to the frame ,although splashing some colour on is the quickest solution . And as you say the contrast between the body colour and trim colour is gorgeous .Finally , l agree , the boot spring " helpers " are the way to go and far less "in your face " . Hadn't given it a thought. But your reason for having priority over the "e"type for touring makes perfect sense . As they say , every day's a schoolday . I actually rhought you'd have the car ready for this season but it's easy to see why your time scale is far more accurate . Thanks Dave , Cheers

John, I do like the idea of using materiel as opposed to paint but there would be some areas were wrapping it will mot work, I don‘t know if you can buy the helper springs for the hinges or complete new hinges 🤔I have had the E Type for some years now and it‘s getting more difficult to get in and out of 🤣😂 TBH I thought it would be finished this year but the paint work took so long to complete that it through all the plans out by 6 months or more. Cheers Dave

Hello Dave, it is looking really amazing. I agree with you that the seat base would look better if it was painted in a colour that matched the colour of the leather, it is a superb job
@ClassicCarCave Жыл бұрын
Firstly thank you! secondly I think the same way as you with the colour match. Sir William Lyons was well known for being a little on the tight side and there was an economic reason he did certain things with every model Jaguar he was involved with 🤣😂he built to a price but considering the models under his management they produced some great cars and at a price no one could match 😉 Cheers Dave

Hi Dave, forgetting you are all leather. Jonathon Skinner will supply you with the strips. My old upholstery guy says always use good high temp. adhesive in cans, (he used dunlop), not airosol sprays. These will let go. The leather will stick easily to the frame and look really good. I would send you a picture if i knew how!!. Regards, David.

Thanks very much for the idea and I have to say I agree I think the same materiel would set it off perfectly, There are parts of the Frame that will need colour matched paint as it would be very difficult to glue vinyl to them. Drop me an email & attachment on davejaguar58@gmail.com Cheers Dave

IMO change the seat base colour, seats look very comfy, one thing that I am sure you are going to attend to what looks like the water temp gauge line is in mid air and will rattle like a bitch !, as for the gear level it will look correct the other way around, but driving comfort is important.

Gary, I already have the paint matched but I like the idea of the vinyl covering around the base. I have to check which is the better position. Cheers Dave

defiantly change the colour for the seats as it is not a show car
@ClassicCarCave Жыл бұрын
Nicholas, It was a bit of a leading question as I had already decided to colour match them when I first picked the interior colour 😉 I was interested to see what the viewers would say and so far it‘s a big👍up. I don‘t get why people do all this work just to show them off and no use them🤔 Cheers Dave
