Excellent (What’s up?) doc there. My fave Marvin toon is 1952’s “Hasty Hare”, where himself utters those immortal words, “Oh! That wasn't a bit nice! [huff, puff] You have made me very angry, [huff, puff] very angry indeed!" BTW back in the early 60s I met “The Man of a Thousand Voices” himself. My family were at a corporate childrens' Xmas party at Casa Loma in Toronto. Every ballroom, hallway and stairwell of this real live castle was filled with musicians, clowns, magicians and jugglers...and a quietly-smiling, unassuming man in a neat dark suit and a tiny moustache. He complimented my little sister, literally a "babe in arms", telling her "Ohhhh! What a tweet widdle girl you are!" She was unimpressed and a little shy but I was thunderstruck as he turned to me and offered his hand burbling (and slobbering) "And what's YOUR name young fella!" Tweety and Sylvester... Mel Blanc in the flesh! My Mom says my mouth did not close for a whole week after!

I think the thing that really drew me to Marvin and made him my favorite looney tune was the juxtaposition between his overall appearance and demeanor against his motivations and role in most shorts. His design and voice are adorable and I have an overwhelming desire to squeeze him, which makes the fact that he is constantly trying to literally blow up the planet and kill billions of people darkly hilarious.

I always loved how both Marvin and Taz were barely used in the original shorts, but because of their cult popularity, they became 2 of the 3 most used LT characters starting in the 90's. The third being Tweety, because he was the girl's merchandising counterpart. Taz did see a rise in the late 80's, with an odd late stage release Atari 2600 game. As for Marvin's cancelled movie, I did see an uptick in Marvin merchandise when the film was first announced, including a Christmas T-shirt which was just a regular Marvin shirt with a Santa hat photoshopped on there. And I still have both versions of that shirt.

Seeing all of these Marvin clips without the actual sound makes it so impressive to look at how his design made them unable to show that he was talking through most conventional methods and the "head bobbing" technique usually used would have looked a bit off, yet somehow you can still tell when he's meant to be speaking, even in instances when he doesn't actually move much while doing so.

Coyote and Road Runner. I'd like to see the Evolution of Wile E. Coyote & Road Runner sometime. Road Runner always knows how to outsmart his ever-hungry adversary. Wile E. Coyote always ends up on the receiving end of falling over cliff edges, and being blown up by every kind of explosive in the book. It's so hard not to laugh out loud, when he gets squashed, stung by bees, pricked by cacti and more besides. He can't even outwit Bugs Bunny, who loves to make his plans backfire in more ways than one.

Loved Space Jam as a kid but was only four at the time so I don't recall his rise to popularity properly. Did a pointillism drawing of him in early high school but mostly because I saw a picture of him in class.

I've got a long history of my love for Marvin the Martian. I've even noticed that he has several girls that see him as cartoon heartthrob. I've also seen that many of them are not pleased by his sad fates and how he's treated. Just because he is a villain doesn't me others have to be tough on him. We all want to see more of Marvin and even make a headline in a series of his own. So far, all these LT series are dominated by Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety, and Taz. No matter how popular Marvin gets, WB will not give him the importance he deserves. I decided that I had to do something about it. That is why I have created a series of own I want to introduce to WB that features Marvin as a headline character along with girlfriend I created for him, Mabel the Martian. She is like a Martian girl Barbie doll and is quite a kind-hearted alien. Mabel unlike Bugs and Daffy shows love to Marvin and helps save the Earth by being nice to him. From there, Marvin is going to show what made him decide to blow up the Earth in the first place. Many fans like me believe that it is very likely he was exploited and bullied by Earthlings in the past. His saying about high school being a horrible time for him shows some evidence. Mabel the Martian girl comes to give him comfort and explains why he doesn't have to blow up the planet. With that, he'll have happier endings. Another thing I am willing to do is to bring back Marcia who is often thought to be Marvin's niece. She will be an in-between main and supporting character making her like Mabel's version of Kelly (Barbie's former little sister). I realized that having Marvin's protege having only one appearance and not being a teacher at Acme University proves that WB is throwing us fans in the dirt. A lot of fans also really loved Marcia and I do too. They wish she appeared more and therefore, I have their backs and want to make it come true with my cartoons. Marcia is 5-year old Kindergartener Martian is like a lot of little girls in my series and is often taken care of by her uncle Marvin and Mabel. Mabel also shows that many non-Earth inhabitants are actually more environmentally friendly with their planet then humans are. They think twice before looking for how to survive. Therefore, they can answer how humans, animals, plants and the Earth's environment can all be happy at the same time without anybody struggling. The thing about that is to end interplanetary speciesism, my new word for in way as if we discriminate and exploit non-Earth inhabitants by stereotyping them as evil in fictional works. If humans are already being shown to be a virus or a cruel creature for the Earth there is no need to make aliens look worse because there has got to being something intelligent + complicated thinking skills as we do while at the same time keeps their planet sustainable for them. That is something I would explain to Jones if he were alive today. Mabel has a lot of other Martian girl friends to add to the mix and many of them have a crush on Marvin. It is a unique and original idea I thought of. Combining sci-fi and chick flicks by bringing a bunch of alien girls into the spirit of fashion, princesses, etc.

yea its a very interesting and cute idea!! and i couldnt agree more, marvin doesn’t get the screen-time he deserves. WB should really pay attention because the amount of marvin fangirls i’ve seen online is overwhelming !! If that isn’t enough proof that Marvin is a beloved and awesome character that deserves to be fleshed out in his own series, then i don’t know what is. Nevertheless , i do have some good news. There is a new looney tunes series coming out that takes place in the WB studio i believe, and also a new animaniacs reboot. Not to mention the announcement of Space Jam 2, of course!!! we are getting so much more looney tunes content, so we’re guaranteed more marvin the martian content :”) Honestly, i want to see more of porky the pig too, since he’s one of my favorite looney tunes!! >\\

_Wow, I never knew that Looney Tunes, let alone Daffy's Duck Dogers actually had an influence on Star Wars._

Fun fact: In 2011, Marvin was planned to have his own live action movie, but it was scrapped

Duck Dodgers has always been one of my favorite cartoons and Marvin’s combined wimpy/surprisingly smart actions definitely are a major reason why. He also played a fairly large role in on of my favorite Looney Tunes video games, Duck Amuck. Also, I have to ask, where did you find the articles mentioning the old “Antwerp” name? I remember seeing this mentioned on a Looney Tunes blog a few years ago, but I couldn’t find anything else on it.

I had a few fellow animation historians do some digging for me and they pulled it all up in their databases.
