I'm from Cornwall, just 1 hour outside of Montreal and spend many weekends there. That being said, I must say this video perfectly encapsulates Montreal's casual food scene. (Montreal's fine dining scene is also exquisite). The only staple I would say you missed in your excellent tour would be Ma Poule Mouillee, a fantastic Portuguese chicken joint . Also, I'm team St. Viateur! Lol

Great Video, I've visited a few of those places but will definetly add a few more on future trips to Montreal. That said, my can't miss restaurant every time I visit Montreal is Weinstein and Gavino. Dic Ann's is good but Lafleur (1951) or even dilallo (1929) still remain staples of Montreal. Can't forget about Mr. Steer (1958) and by bringing up Schwartz one can't dismiss other versions that are equally good (and in s few cases much better than Schwartz) such as Dunn's, chenoy's, Reuben's, Jarry, smoked meat pete, Lester's, Snowdon deli, Green Spot just to name a few. Couple of "moves" to point out. The Montreal Pool Room is in a different location from the original. That was across the street on St. Laurent, and actually had pool tables in the back (though I never saw anyone using them). They had to move when the building was expropriated. Orange Julep is also a 2nd generation building. The first one on Decarie was further north on the same side. It closed when they widened the street and dug the Decarie trench to get the landfill that became Ile Notre Dame for Expo '67. The original building was smaller.

Started Great! Binerie and Dic Ann's! But Banquies has to stop being brought up, its not good and worth the hype. Find a good belle pro's and it will likely be better. Schwartz 👍 Julep, the poutine is actually better than Banquise but the orange shake is a bit over hyped(They also have Nathan Dogs). The julep is worth the mention because of a few reasons. Pool Room 👍 Once again I would rather have a poutine there over Banq and if you wanna see some drunkin natives fight themselves👍. Wilensky's 👍 for someone visiting(especially the area) but for the price I cant see how someone would be a regurlar. Fairmount 👍 yes the bagel is better. Overal a good list, im glad some other places didnt make the list. There's a few places in MTL that are just riding that (been here a long time "Instituion") BS. Great Example pizza napolitana, dont go there, its not good. Do your research and try googling new restaurants MTL 2024 or previous years and if theyre still around with good reviews in a cool neighborhood, go there instead.
