In Sri Lanka you should not use the term "gas" for fuel.Many natives do think you are asking cooking gas not the fuel. Just ask petrol.

In Sinhalese language, they call "Pani" for honey, Syrup and Treacle. They just translate it to English word and call Coconut honey/Palm honey/Bee honey and that becomes confusing. So, what you actually had with Buffalo curd was "Palm treacle", which is basically a Syrup made from Palm but resembles Molasses, mostly from coconut tree. There is a rarer and bit expensive Treacle that's extracted from the "Kithul" palm tree, which has a denser and more delicate flavor. Love from Minnesota!

At 00:54 Local says “Normal Petrol No Here”… means that they don't have Octane 92 petrol. But they may have other products like Xtra Premium 95 and Xtra Premium Euro 3 petrol for slightly higher cost. At IOC stations you will get these varieties. In most others, they have 92 and 95. Good luck.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country and if I have to select one country to live I will select Sri Lanka. Safety is the first criterion I check especially as an expat thinking of relocating . The crime rate and the murder rate as expats are the first to be targeted as they are naive about the environment. Lot of expats who retired to the Caribbean have been murdered as criminals know they are soft targets and have wealth. Lot of people don't even think of this criterion moving to another country. Costa Rica is ranked 42 for crime and Sri Lanka are ranked 87 for crime in 2023. Costa Rica's murder rate is 12 per 100,000 people and going up. Srilanka is low at 3.43 per 100,000 people or lower now. Jamaica is 53 per 100,000 people and lot of Brits want to retire there! By the way USA and UK , New Zealand , Australia and Canada crime ratings are 55 , 65, 74, 76 and 81 respectively so it is much safer to live in Sri Lanka than even Canada. With the new government with zero tolerance for corruption it will become even safer and a lot of foreign investment will now come in. The word Serendipity came into the English language from Srilanka which was known in the ancient times as Serendib or Serendip. It is discovering unexpected wonderful things regularly.
