I think at this point TFE has probably made it much, much harder for the flerfer movement to recruit new people. The existing grifters and true believers won't be swayed, but it's now a much harder thing for them to recruit new adherents.

@@Green_Tea_Coffee It also caused some serious splintering. There are the people around David Weiss who acknowledge the 24h sun and somehow try to add it to models. There is the Oakley/Dubay guys who just ignore it or claim it is faked, then there are also the demonstrable realists... well only one, who does whatever, I don't really know. The split into those two camps is fairly interesting. The DIRTH people acknowledge the sun doing what it does, but it is hard to tackle them because they don't have a real explanation what people saw. I think Jeran already tore down a few of their ideas. The Oakley and Dubay people don't even go there. They just claim that it is faked or that what the sun does tells you nothing about the earth, which would be true... if the flat earth was not illuminated by the sun. Many of those stumble if you either take away their arguments about a fake, which was done step by step by releasing more material over time. Like the drone flight sounds fairly ridicolous in a studio does it... but this wasn't known to many flat earthers initially, that they flew a drone 5000 ft into the air. The most prominent losses are likely Jeran and Jonathan (from what he said, he also isn't a flat earther anymore, but he never was that deep into it I think). But it isn't unlikely that it also convinced some others. We know that before it started it rankled people that Dubay and Oakley did not join them. Unlike other flat earthers both were invited as guest and would have their costs covered. I think the 3rd one is David Weiss, but unlike the other two he acknowledges the 24h sun... at least he did the last time I saw something from him. So he doesn't have the struggle to explain why he claims it was faked but did not want to ensure it is not by going there.

that's like one of the first things you learn when you take even a passing interest in astronomy. stuff at the horizon looks bigger to the eye because you have things to compare the object in the sky to. when things are closer to zenith, you have nothing to compare them to. a very well optical illusion that we use to demonstrate the concept of checking angular size to grade school children.

@@rakninja Yeah, but that's a separate thing, Flat Earthers actually claim the Sun/Moon get *smaller* when they are closer to the horizon since they are (according to them) getting further away from you, and prove that by showing videos of the Sun's glare getting smaller as it dims near the horizon, because they don't understand glare and the actual Sun are two separate things (also see Dubay pointing out that "the Sun" gets "smooshed" in the 360 footage while it's actually the glare that can be seen).

At a bare minimum, when observed from one location on earth, an EQ mount proves we at least live on a cone. But once you move north or south any non-negligible amount the altitude of the EQ has to change in relation to the round globe we live on.

It is actually ABSOLUTE proof of a globe. It is designed based on a tilted, rotating, orbiting sphere. It absolutely could not give the results it does, on a flat motionless earth. If you notice the orientation of Dave's tracker pointed basically straight up. In my back yard it needs to be point at 51 degrees, or all the other angles based on location. Other wise accurate tracking is not possible. I have offered $10K to any flat head who can duplicate the results, for long exposure astrophotography, basic strictly on flat, motionless, horizontal earth. 5 years later, after posting a dozen times. Zero response and of course $$$ is still in the bank. Flat earth's greatest problem is, you cannot prove something that isn't.

The next problem is that the same logic should be true for the moon. Yet the moon is not bright enough to cause any glares, so it more consistently appears at the same size as the sun does. That is why I always ask them for prove that the moon changes size throughout the day, they can't show any of the weird glare images they do with the sun for the moon.

It depends on the altitude the footage was taken from and the amount of atmospheric lensing due to things like humidity etc. There are tons of sunset videos where the sun shrinks almost to a point. When it appears to get larger the air is magnifying it due to atmospheric conditions. Amazing that this is only ever brought up by globies when trying to dismiss long distance curvature tests but never anywhere else.

There is an optical illusion whereby the Moon (and Sun if made safely dim) APPEAR larger when near the horizon. This is a well known phenomenon, part of the cause being the proximity to terrestrial objects versus when higher up in the large, empty sky. In actual fact, refraction more commonly makes the Sun ACTUALLY slightly smaller when quite near the horizon. The lower limb is lifted more than the upper limb, resulting in a departure from circular to elliptical. The horizontal dimension is unchanged, but the vertical squashing causes a reduction in angular area. The same occurs for the Moon, of course. But slightly complicating this is the fact of the Moon's comparative nearness, which results in the Moon being slightly farther from an observer when low in the sky, and hence appearing slightly angularly smaller. Between observers where one has the Moon at his zenith and another who has it on his horizon, the difference in distance to the Moon equals 1 Earth radius. I might mention as well this interesting fact. The lunar parallax is about 1°, due to the Earth subtending about 2° as seen from the Moon. This means that for observers on opposite sides of the Earth having the Moon on their horizon (one could be seeing moonrise and the other moonstone, for instance), the Moon's position against the starry background will differ by 2°, or some 4 Moon diameters.

For the local sun believers, if you bothered to observe the rules of perspective, you'd know that moving objects change size in frame most dramatically when they're closer, not when they're farthest away. So the sun at noon should show an obvious change in angluar size by early afternoon. It shouldn't take until just before sunset to see a sudden change in size. A car zooming away from you will halve in angular size in a second or two, but a car a half a block away will stay near the same angular size for many seconds.

The flerfs don't account for human error and because of this they shout 'FAKE'. It makes me laugh how Flerfs don't allow the human errors or issues when in reality their whole brain is an error. I saw a beautiful image today while hiking up a rocky hill that was about 150 meters high. During sunset the clouds were being illuminated from beneath, I immediately took a picture to show my flerfs friends, as it can't ever happen on a flat earth. It really amazes me how people that say that "you need to trust what you can see", can't actually see how silly their arguments are when compared with reality.

Just a reminder that disproving anything that Dave presents, doesn’t prove a flat earth, you still have to prove the earth is flat on your own. Last April I brought a good camera to misquamicut beach, and I shot block island from 3 feet above the water, then shot it 20 feet above the water, and I could see a little more of the island from higher up, and the wind turbines behind the island were much lower than they should be. There’s no explanation for that if the earth is flat

Flerfer follow-up video: I dreamt up more unhinged theories, so I am removing and dismissing this evidence that didn't go my way. Dave: I missed including some evidence, here's a follow up and all the raw evidence. I really appreciate the raws Dave. I opened up 0005 and cropped it, I'm pretty impressed with your shot. I only have an old 12mp Sony A230 (my primary is a Tamron 28-200; great for tourist shots, not so much for bespoke shots) and I know this is better than I could get. Some of those other submitted photos are absolutely gorgeous though. For anyone curious, the only difference I can see with the raws as I opened them and as shown on the time lapse is that the relative brightness is increased. Will this change any Flerfers minds? Doubt it. But I enjoy the content.

Great video Dave, I want to photograph the sun with a solar filter in the future, and also the moon, I just need the tripod and the solar filter. BTW it's funny how you can provide the raw files from the camera and have flat earthers claim that the pictures are "manipulated" when they can easily download the files and check for themselves, but I guess the camera industry is in the conspiracy to always show the sun at the same size in the files.
