Remarkable! I'm a pencil portrait artist and to learn THIS, not only is your work Hyper Realism, but wow how it projects Depth! What made you choose pastel pencils over Colored Pencils? (2) I was going to buy Flesh Tone pencils since i don't know the color wheel,, would Flesh/Skin tone pencils be less appealing on a finished piece?

I do have a question about texture on skin. Is it an absolute to create texture? I'm about to take on a portrait of an Asian couple and their 3 children and all of them have very porcelain-like complexion. When is it advisable (or not)? Your work is outstanding, Dave and I learn SO much from watching you create these masterpieces!! Thanking you in advance! Sherry
@DavePortersArt Жыл бұрын
Hi Sherry, I always take the approach draw/paint what you see... with porcelain-like complexion just be aware not to make the skin look plastic over blending. Being aware of the temperature changes and subtle blending should help. Thank for watching... thrilled you are learning from my work. 🙏

Dave your work is stunning, I'm trying to get a good space sorted out to do my artwork, and then I'll be straight on to Patreon. Your approach is so different from how I've worked in the past, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to go backward before I go forward, but I'm also sure it's the correct way for me to really improve and get to the next level. Thank you, and all the best.

Hi Steve... all the best in finding the space to create art. Thanks for your consideration in joining me on Patreon. My technique is based on instinct and I find it so relaxing than what I used to do so many years back. I keep things nice and straight forward... you can use my colour method with any medium too. Appreciate the kind words... you are welcome... all the best with your art journey. 🙏

Mehn, I can’t ever get over the details. The beauty. You’re such a great teacher as well. I have learnt a lot just watching you draw. I would like to dive into pastel drawing. I noticed the materials are really expensive as well. I don’t want that to deter me, so if you can help give a recommendatory list of necessary pastel tools you think I can start with. I’d really appreciate your guide. Thanks in advance, sire.

Hi joseph, thrilled you enjoy watching the videos, appreciate the kind words. I would recommend CarbOthello chalk pastel 60 set as they are good value for the quality, just watch out for some of the blues and purples which have poor lightfastness. Just buy a Faber Castel White pastel pencil and mix in with the CarbOthello's and you will give a good result. 😊🙏

I’d like to know what paper I can work on to achieve the smoothness and blending. Pastel paper is still too grainy. I noticed you use clairefontaine which is very expensive for me. Is there a less costly surface better than the grainy pastel paper? Thank you
@DavePortersArt4 ай бұрын
I am looking and trying less expensive material so people can try my technique and get a similar result. here is the link... arteza.com/products/spiral-sketch-book-gray-toned-3-pack?_pos=1&_psq=gray+toned+paper&_ss=e&_v=1.0 All the very best. p.s. they do bigger sizes too, this size is ideal to practice on.
