Earl Wild made many of The Greatest Recordings Everrr! And I love him in this recordings but Rubenstein’s was the first recording I ever heard, and the first time I ever heard the Ballades; I bought it knowing nothing about him or the Ballades 2:01 and Chopin was something of a looked 2:08 down on composer(God knows why!Maybe because their mothers liked him, so he had to be bad?) but I loved what I was familiar in his music. I was young and poor,LPs were expensive and I remember dropping the needle on the record and wondering have I wasted my money here? I was enchanted with the first few notes and have been ever sense. I know this is about the greatest recordings ever, but in my opinion, it is.And so is Wild.

Rubinstein could make the list too. I had to choose one. You don't have to.

There's an interesting book in regard to the ballades by the former editor of The Guardian newspaper. He'd played the piano in his youth, and in middle age he decided to give himself a year to master one of the ballades (G minor?). He documented his "journey" in the book. Of course he had the connections to have coffee with Daniel Barenboim and Murray Perahia and whoever else to get their thoughts on the piece and spice up the book.

I know there are hundreds & hundreds of super, 1st class pianist in the world (many of which I adore) but with Earl gone there seems to be a void not yet filled...or it could just be me 😅 Love him none the less 👍

This sounds great. I love Wild's Chopin Etudes, but I have not heard these yet. They should do an Earl Wild / Ivory Classics box? There are quite a few CDs.

Speaking of Chopin, I must ask why you have not made a video on the New Chopin waltz and to that, the new Mozart piece.

I have nothing to say about them.

Dave, OT, but would you consider a review of Sony's 7 disc box of the complete recordings for RCA by the tragically short-lived but great Emanuel Feuermann? Yes, quite old mono sound, but Feuermann's gorgeous tone and vibrato, musicianship, and passion were well caught by the Victor engineers some 80 years ago with some notable performances with Heifetz, Primrose, Rubinstein, Ormandy, etc. I just listened to it this week and was all but bowled over, even forgetting entirely the vintage sonics.

Sure, I'll pull it out and give it some thought (and a fresh listen).

@@DavesClassicalGuideThanks, Dave. (I admit the Famous Name Trio collaboration has its ups and downs, but mostly ups, the downs principally in the Brahms.)
