Marianne Fons once said that machine quilting is like driving a car and hand quilting is like taking a walk. One gets you to your destination more quickly, but the other is something you do for the experience.

I really love watching you put these quilts together with your unique brain. I try to make more free form quilts with extra applique areas for guys and more repetitive more pieced blocked quilts for gals until I know them better and have formed a special unique quilt in my mind for that person. I would prefer to hand quilt everything because of the softer feel as they age from use and I find more popped seams on machine quilted seems than I find on my hand quilted ones. I am stuck right now. I made the mistake of making a list of what quilts I want to make in the future. Now I feel like I have to decide between favorites. Maybe a scrap cleansing would be good for my stash as well. Love the simple way you present your sewing. Aren't you glad that you quilt! Aloha 🧵🧵🪡🪡

You might want to try a Trash Quilt. Take 2 random scraps & sew together keep repeating until you're sick of it. Then sew the 2 patches together into 4 patches, keep continuing until you have a 64 patch piece of fabric. Then cut into blocks square or rectangles & assemble. Use whatever square ruler you have/want. I've been making this quilt for the last few weeks. I started by filling a large shopping bag from Mt Scrapmore--jammed that bag until it felt heavy enough to be a quilt top. Next time I'm going to try your "squares/rectangles" version.

Hi Dave, I understand the feels for hand stitching sometimes. It has a more 'cottage industry" feel. Also, I mostly understand another quilt construction video (mason jars) All that being said, I feel like I don't know your personality at all, not yet

I like the eclectic 'scrappy' (living up to its name) look of the quilt. It has an image of "oh this old thing, yes its been in the family for years" look about it. 😊 I haven't looked thrpugh all your videos yet, do you prefer geometric or do you like to make quilts with a picture too?

Another great piece..... I have a hard time finding fabric that's funky and fun but then realized it's ME. I see fabrics and think "What in the hell would I do with that?" but now I know. Orange is my favorite color and I kept wondering what it was that drew me to your designs and I noticed it's Orange..... it's in almost all your work and funny thing is I don't have any Orange fabric🤔🙄🤪

Lynn here on Hubby's phone mines playing up 😏, Hi I'm a new subscriber , I have to say I'm loving your channel , what a different approach to quilting , takes all the granny aspect away 😂😂😂, well done ! , Did you manage to come over to the festival of quilts this year ? Have you had a quilt in the show ? I bought some Kaffe Fasset fabric a while back , but I have to say , I'm quite scared to use it , I'm very tempted to cut it all up randomly and sew it back together 😂😂, what do you think ? Don't think I can manage a nest one 😂, I should say I've never made a quilt before , been going to make one for twenty odd years , but never got round to it 😊, Take care , see you on the next one ❤️
@davescraftroom Жыл бұрын
I have never put a quilt in a show 😳😅 I don't get out much 😂 Kaffe fabric is good because it will look good in almost any pattern especially if you get a good background/ accent color 😜 or you might try a stack 'n wack too !

Hi Dave! New subscriber here. You do you! Don’t worry about what others say about your craft! I love the scrappiness of the quilt. I might need to try a knit jersey backing. It sounds so comfy. (Although I probably will starch it to help out.)

Lol. I enjoy hand quilting as well! Currently I have 3 vintage sewing machines that I really should get back into action. No hurry! Kinda like an artist painter brushing on the paint, stroke by stroke, creating an image of Art. I get such a kick outta your videos! I do like how you do the sandwich method. French seams. 🧵 Thanks! Oh!!! Have I missed a video where you show how you created your design board. I’ve seen people using different fabrics & such-like the back of a vinyl tablecloth-so I’m curious what you are using cuz those patches stick well!
