Notice how everything turned to Sh#t since he left us? Had a heart attack on stage, went off, towelled himself down, did the rest of the gig on a stool, went to Hospital, never toured again. He’s given us so many great songs. We should never underestimate the mans impact on music.

Bowie's performance of "'Heroes'" on 6 June 1987, at the German Reichstag in West Berlin has been considered a catalyst to the later fall of the Berlin Wall. Following his death in January 2016, the German government thanked Bowie for "helping to bring down the Wall", adding "you are now among Heroes". You cut off the video at end, but Bowie says "I felt that" and touches his heart.

@ Michael Hopkins: You sure they did that because of the Performance? I mean Bowie lived in Berlin for a couple of years in the late 70's. (together with Iggy Pop) He came off of drugs there, and he wrote several songs, including Heroes, which is about a couple near the Berlin wall that gets shot at by border guards while kissing. I'd think it was because of the song in itself, being written in and about the situation of people in Berlin. Not just because of one single performance of his.

Strange to think that the show I saw in 2004 would be my last time. Losing Bowie was a kick to the guts....so many songs - Loving The Alien, Life on Mars, Cat People, China Girl, The Glass Spider (album track from Never Let Me Down), Bring Me The Disco King ( album track, but an awesome live version on his 2004 tour), The Man Who Sold The World, Within You (from Labyrinth) - I could add so many!!

Bowie’s passing was such an incredible loss to music. A true artist and such a unique voice, always creating, never staying the same. You can see by the way he was holding the crowd in the palm of his hand and making it look easy that he’d been doing it for decades by then. If you haven’t already I strongly suggest reacting to Life On Mars. Others may have a different opinion, but for me that was Bowie’s masterpiece.

Jovaughn, I'm proud of you for having such an open mind when it comes to music. I wish I'd been like that when I was young. I'm a child of the 80's and have loved music my whole life. I always wrote off Bowie as "old people music", I'm ashamed to say. So in the last 5-10 years I began realizing that the music that I loved that I considered MY Generation's music, was almost entirely inspired by Bowie. All of the bands that I loved the most LOVED Bowie. Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Trent Reznor, The Human League, OMD, Kate Bush, Placebo, Talking Heads... I could go on and on. When Bowie passed I was devastated because I didn't know him when I had the chance and he was here. I started quickly making up for time and it goes without saying that I LOVE David and I'm so sad he's gone. Even more, I'm so sad that as a teen I closed my mind to him and wrote him off. How wrong I was! Now he's at the top of my very favorite artists of all time. I love every song he ever did...except maybe "Dancing In The Streets" with Mick Jagger. LOL! And now, thanks to the inspiration that I have been getting from your videos, I've gone on to take a 2nd listen and appreciate some of the bands from my youth that were "too old": The Eagles, Phil Collins, Stevie Nicks, Queen, Steely Dan, Supertramp... and I'm starting to get what was good about them.

Bowie was always at his very best in front of a live audience and this is the proof. This amazing song is about the Berlin wall coming down and the sudden freedoms which both East and West Germans were able to discover.

The song was recorded by the Berlin wall. The studio version has a different feel to it. David Bowie teamed up with Arcade fire to perform their song "Wake up" live. Great song.

The song was written at Hansa studios, next to the Berlin Wall, in 1977 or 78. It's partly about the Berlin Wall - the mention of guards - and David Bowie had a special connection with the people of Berlin, having lived there. He performed a concert in West Berlin, before the wall came down, right by the wall and loud enough for people on the East to hear.

He wrote this song in the late 70's from the point of a couple living in opposite sides of Berlin and separated by the Berlin Wall and the Cold War while he was living in the city. When he passed away Germany's Foreign Ministry tweeted "Good-bye, David Bowie. You are now among # Heroes. Thank you for helping to bring down the # wall" in his honor and the mayor of Berlin Mayor said that the song had become a hymn of the then-divided city and its longing for freedom. How cool is that?

He describes a situation of 2 lovers at the Berlin Wall. One coming from the West, the other one from East Germany. They have to separate before night and go back to their side of the wall. In the 70ies Bowie used to live in Berlin, working at Hansa-Studios right next to the wall. And there he also wrote this song. Singing this song in front of a Berlin crowd is giving me chills. Especially living here :) Bowie is very special to us Germans. // JayveeTV, I watch all of your videos. So emotional, entertaining and honest :)

Inspired by the sight of Bowie's producer-engineer Tony Visconti embracing his lover by the Berlin Wall, the song tells the story of two lovers, one from East and one from West Berlin. (From Wiki)

My man, he *always* delivered. When I saw his Sound and Vision tour, he had the flu. He came out and gave a solid performance for the first half; then took a somewhat longer than average intermission (maybe, what, five minutes longer?), and came back out . . . Then he rocked, and rocked, and rock-goded, and then, towards the end of "Young Americans," sat down in a chair for a minute or so, wiping the sweat away and taking several deep drinks of whatever was in that container (while we cheered and shouted, all of us knowing he was sick and appreciative of his "show must go on" attitude, since the word had gone out on all the radio stations that he was sick but still going to perform), then started singing the very next verse and got back up and finished the song, and proceeded to follow *that* with an encore which was the length of which most opening acts' you've ever seen while dancing with his backup singers like he was still some teenager. Can you imagine: sick as a dog, in his 40s, and still came out like the rock and roll superstar he was? I didn't have to; I was there.

Bowie was a class act , i remember he preformed this song for the 9/11 tribute for the Fire and Police and for all those who lost their lives that tragic day and the crowd went crazy . Bowie lived in NY with his wife and daughter . This would sadly be his last tour before his heart attack in 2004 , he didn't want to miss out on his daughter growing up and time with Iman by always being on the road. 2016 was such a tragic year for music , we lost Bowie, then Prince and then George Michael ....
