It had actually had a more personal meaning to the song. It was about a love affair between one his producers and a girl while the guy was still married. I think he ended up marrying the girl he was having an affair with. Someone fact check me, I’m too lazy to look up all the details rn.

Love that..."connect from the past to the future." The late great David Bowie was a great artist and entertainer. The Man Who Sold the World, China Girl, and Absolute Beginners are just a sample of some of my faves. Now that you have gotten bit by the Bowie bug, I suggest you explore on your own when you have time. Bowie was against social injustice and racism. Some of his songs have that message in them.

It's part of his last album, ★, that he recorded while receiving his cancer treatments. He ended up stopping treatments during the recording sessions. The whole album is his "swan song" of sorts. It released on his birthday, January 8th, 2016. He died two days later. It was his first album ever to debut at number one in the United States. When you listen to that album, know that he was in the studio LITERALLY DYING while recording it, all while putting together his very first musical based upon the character he portrayed in his first full-length feature film, The Man Who Fell to Earth, just so he could leave us with a final message of love and devotion directly from his heart. He also recorded 3 songs that were intended for release after his death. The man truly forced us to redefine the word "genius" as it pertained to him. I miss him every day. 😢😢😢

Legend David Bowie is British and one great friend of Legend Freddie Mercury, also British. They composed "Under Pressure" together in just one session in studio. Because geniouses are like this. Bowie was called "The Chameleon" because not only he'd change his visuals but traded through all kinds of styles: hard rock, pop, dance, rock, jazz, progressive, techno, romantic.

Yeah he changed so much because he refused to repeat the same style of music twice no matter how succesfull. His attude towards the record companies when they were asking for more of the same was i have already created that record so why would i be intrested in making anoher one? So cool. I have seen him perform the "The Glass-spider tour" concert and i still consider this one of the best concerts i have ever been too. This was actually the very first concert of the world tour. The guy is legend.

You got that 100% right - connecting from the past to the future. Bowie was and is my hero, straddling decades, genres, art, music, theatre, fashion and people of all races and sexuality. There are few entertainment related people in my eyes that deserve the status of legend, but Bowie was that in spades, a spirit of individuality who encouraged and emboldened that trait in everyone who listened, a magnet for the disillusioned, different and lost. His music is his legacy but only tells part of the story - his very presence was almost an experience in itself, I was lucky enough to see him live on several occasions and his connection with the crowd was unbelievable, it felt cathartic. This world is a poorer place without him, but I feel blessed for being alive in his time. Shine on Starman.

This was actually two songs fused together. "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Peace on Earth", with Crosby singing the former and Bowie the latter (plus a little bit of crossover). Some people, when they hear that someone is doing a solo rendition of Drummer Boy say, "How are you going to do the Peace on Earth bit?", unaware that that bit is not present in Drummer boy and vice versa.

In his later years (as this concert shows) he really seemed very happy with his life...very personable. he came a long way in his years and covered a LOT of territory musically. When it comes to David, "Let's Dance" is the one track that I really can go back to and be back to being around 7 or 8 years old hearing it over and over again from my brothers or sisters rooms. So do check that one out. And Heroes is one of my favourites that I discovered at a later stage in my life, actually from his performance at the Freddie Tribute.

Those of us who were privileged to have been growing up during the 70's were truly blessed...btw, just like Freddy/Queen, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, TRex, The Who, Elvis Costello, Elton John, Billy Idol, Dusty Springfield, George Michael, The Cure, The Kinks, Black Sabbath, Joy Division, Deacon Blue, Bauhaus, The Human League, Souxsie and the Banshees, Soft Cell ...and a thousand more...Bowie was British and made us proud, so although he will always be ours, we happily shared him with the world..you're welcome.. lol :D

If you've never watched it, I highly suggest watching a movie called Labyrinth, from the '80's. Bowie was one of the main characters, and plays the Goblin King. It's a great movie, and it is what got my daughter into liking Bowie, when she was around 11.

God no. I made that mistake 2 years ago. I remembered it a child as this great adventure. Put it on for my 10 and 14year old. It's aged terribly and it's so pervy and pedo'esk. He is about 30 and chasing a 14 year old around in a love story in his very exposing tights. That film is best left in the early 80s.

Love him sooo much . First heard him in London at Earls Court, during his Ziggy Stardust era. I was 12 years old. I never looked back. I moved to the USA to go to college in 1979, back then Americans were just beginning to get to know him, and many were critical of him. They didn’t get “it”. I remember he showed up on Saturday Night Live wearing a skirt! I am so happy that Americans have embraced him so throughly now. RIP.

I really think you would like "Space Oddity". When Bowie started out, he experimented with different genres and identities. He pretty much started the "Glam Rock" music and was considered a breakout artist. He looked very androgynous back then. I'll post a link to it for you.

He was known to go online at his authenticated David Bowie site and randomly talk to people without them knowing. At times he would reveal himself. Awesome.
