I love that they're releasing official versions of these performances in good quality!

480p good quality?
@cle4tle3 ай бұрын
@@BillyHell01 that's the resolution they broadcasted and probably also the resolution they shot in
@mushroomcraft3 ай бұрын
@@BillyHell01 It's not just about the resolution. This is back from the analogue era, so all the bootleg versions were from people recording on to a VHS tape at home, plenty of distortion and artifacting, plus horrible sound. And yes, they probably shot it in 480p or 576p. You're not getting a 4k version because it wasn't shot on film. This is as good as we're going to get, and if you compare it to what we had prior, the quality is great.
@BillyHell013 ай бұрын
@mushroomcraft The BBC have been releasing DVDs of bands complete TOTP performances in all their lipsynicing glory, and they seem higher quality than this.
@mushroomcraft3 ай бұрын
@@BillyHell01 Maybe those performances were shot on film? Then it could be re-scanned in pretty much any resolution. If a session was exclusively broadcast during the days of analogue TV, the resolution is limited to what the camera is recording in, and at the time, TVs were 480p or 576p, so you can't get a higher resolution then that. Find a higher quality recording of this version specifically (not AI "enhanced"), then I'll believe you.

You can also sometimes find a 15min long vid of the rehearsals for this song followed by the final take. Take 1 ends prematurely after the dragon line with "sorry guys that wasn't very good, I'd like to do that again." Take 2 also falls apart at the dragon line. Take 3 is complete (he throws in a "God bless" at the very end) and good and should be released - it also has a more freewheeling backing vocal performance. Take 4 they turn on the TOTP branding (the rotating TOTP slides projected on the back wall) and that's the video that was released. (The audio in the Live at the Manhattan Center EP is the fourth take.) The third take really should be released too.
