David Bridie | Long Play Series

Seven-time ARIA award winning artist David Bridie has enjoyed a distinguished career as one of Australia’s most innovative musicians. Starting out in the genre-defying rock group Not Drowning, Waving in the early 1980s, Bridie played a pivotal role in the band, contributing his distinctive vocals, keyboard skills and songwriting talents. Later, Bridie formed My Friend the Chocolate Cake, which showcased his unique storytelling and captivating lyrics.
Bridie has also applied his immense talent to composing for film and television. His work on the soundtrack for the 1992 film Proof won an ARIA for Best Independent Release, and the soundtrack for 1999’s In A Savage Land received multiple awards, including an AFI Award for Best Original Score and a Film Critics Circle of Australia Award for Best Music Score..
Throughout his thirty-five-year career, Bridie has released 10 solo albums as well as establishing the Wantok Music Foundation, which promotes culturally-infused music from Indigenous Australia.
In this interview, David reveals his passion for recording in remote places, tells us about the soundtracks that changed his life, and describes working with the late, great Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter.

I've loved David's work since I discovered him about 35 years ago, via 3RRR and also his cover of 'Another Girl, Another Planet' by the Only Ones that he recordrd for an AIDS benefit album. Great that he's still at it!
