So around 25 years ago I had a young American guy come and share a flat with me. I’m in Australia. He was about 20, travelling round the world for a year or so. He was a bright guy, very funny, made good money busking with songs he composed himself which were very funny too. One day we were talking and WWII came up and he looked a bit confused and said “you know I’ve never been able to figure it out, sometimes in war movies we are fighting the Japanese and then in others we’re fighting the Germans, who were we fighting in WWII?” So I explained that the war in Europe had been going for a while but America only joined when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbour and then it fought on both fronts. He looked quite excited for a second and said “oh yeah, Pearl Harbour, I’ve heard of that, what was that about?” I want to stress, he was no dummy, he could talk knowledgeably about a range of topics, but his historical ignorance stunned me. BTW this was before social media, KZbin or really the internet as we know it now, so that’s not to blame. Edit. Reading this back it might be interpreted as me saying that just because Trump hasn’t heard of Pearl Harbour doesn’t mean he’s an idiot. Not my intention. He is.

Indeed. We Scandinavians are often called socialists by Americans, who do not understand the definition of socialism, capitalism or really anything. We actually rank as MORE capitalist than the US, coz we have a well regulated capitalist market economy, keeping the capitalism healthy. The US with its fixation of removing as many rules and regulations as possible has allowed their once capitalism to mutate into a monster, that is barely connected to capitalism any longer. Im 51 years old and an accountant. Its been really sad to follow, how the US in the name of very short term gains have destroyed medium and long term gains, that wouldve been far better for both ppl and the economy, and by doing this has brought their society and democracy, their very country, to the brink of selfdestruction.

You always have the right questions Anthony; I do hope he's coming back on . I have a question for him because he brought up the Russians in trump tower. When trump was younger in NYC, he always associated with mob figures; there was a lot of talk about trump being an FBI informant to get information on the Russian mob, especially, in the neighborhood called Little Odessa. I wonder if David knows anything about that. I've wondered about it because trump was always trying to rub shoulders in mob circles. It was great hearing him speaking about the Scandinavian countries; two of my great grandparents were right off the boat from Sweden 😊. As a progressive, I have admired those countries policies and way of life. Thank you both very much for the excellent work you do...loved this episode!! 💙💙👍👍💙💙🎉🎉🎉🎉

I think part of the problem with economic ignorance here and the reason the tariff policy is so misunderstood is because most journalists who report on politics don't possess much economic policy understanding themselves. Politics and economic reporting aren't very integrated. May we all survive the Diseased Decade (and counting) of the Dump.

There was the Choral Club and the Senior Play as well as a High School Musical! There was football, baseball. Basket ball, volleyball ball and Track. There was tennis and golf! ⛳️ In the Summer there was swimming and Junior and Senior life gaurds. There was Boy Scouts, Girl b Scouts, blue birds and Campfire Girls! There was Four H and Future Farmers! I mean growing up in the 1950’s and 1960’s there was a place for every student to succeed! I agree with you about the decline in the level of education in our country. I'm 76. When I was growing up in Michigan, they encouraged academic excellence, and when I got to high school, they had a program for the gifted for me. When we graduated, Michigan had an excellent network of universities. We were expected to read a large number of books. There wasn't grade inflation, and they didn't grade on a curve. To get an A, you had to have a test grade of 96% or over, and there was no such thing as partial credit. Today, they teach to the lowest level, since they don't want anyone left behind, and grading is always on a curve, so there are always A's no matter how poor the performance is. When you teach to the lowest level, the overall level of the group is lower. When I was in school, some people couldn't make the grade, and had to repeat the year. Now they have social promotion. Potential employers cannot look upon a high school diploma as a guarantee of certain levels of skills, not even adequate reading and writing skills. A lot of times, all it indicates is that the candidate sat through twelve years of school.

His father hired an "economically challenged" brainiac young man to take DonOld'a SAT and his oldest sister wrote his term papers. To receive the degree, Fred Trump wrote a big check to Wharton's building fund, according to his neice. So smart!! It explains how a person holding the business degree does NOT UNDERSTAND HOW TARIFFS Work!!!! Shameful and possibly criminal actions.

Thank you both, for this sodering, informative education on our country at this moment in time and how we got here. I love reading and am so happy my blue collar family had books, magazines like Life and we all read and my parents read and discussed politics. I am so fortunate to still be learning at age 70 . Thanks again.

Come on, Anthony, you know better. 13 million people didn't "not show up"; their votes were arbitrarily challenged and discarded. Why are all the indie journalists blinded to this?
@asbeautifulasasunset3 күн бұрын
My theory is that they don't want Democrats to stop believing in election integrity. Also, they don't want to rock the boat that holds about 73 million flying monkeys on brooms. Currently, an advocate of paper ballots and a nation-wide investigation into every state's election process. No way, 45 won all swing states in greater margins than automatic recounts.

Well come on @seer1623 you should know better than to make conspiratorial claims without supporting evidence. Please show that evidence to those of us who are blinded to votes being arbitrarily challenged and discarded....P.S. Just a feeling in your bones doesn't count.

Let the red states secede and be Trump's own private kingdom. Let the billionaires run their states like medieval Europe with Donnie 's base as their peasant workforce. That's what the billionaires want and that's what Donnie 's base voted for, so let them have it. Meanwhile the blue states can get on with being educated and prosperous.

I am watching this again and I wanted to bring something up. When Bernie Sanders was running for president, I kept saying they need to change the TERMINOLOGY because they were using the word socialist which is a trigger that immediately makes people think of the old USSR and China . The elderly, and older folks grew up during very different times. Communism, Socialist, Marxist were all taboo. We grew up in fear of these things; spying, Cuban missile scare, hiding under your desk in school during emergency drills... like that was going to save you if a bomb was heading here. I tried to explain to people that the progressives want Social programs to help people; a living wage, affordable housing, healthcare for all, affordable education, etc., etc. terminology has been passed down through generations leaving people ignorant to the programs and changes that could improve their lives...and they vote for a con man. They all have cellphones; yet they won't Google Scandinavian/ European countries to see things like healthcare for all, affordable childcare, paid maternity leave, paid vacations, etc. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make them drink it. Again, many thanks to you both for the excellent work you do 💙💙👍👍💙💙🎉🎉🎉🎉
