Maynard was sick with the flu when I saw them in Houston. He kept stepping off stage to get sick into a make shift bucket and go back on stage. The man actually apologized to the crowd for having the flu! Blew my mind at his commitment to his performance. The crowd roared with appreciation and they proceeded to kill it as usual. He's a rare breed and amazing person.

@E.J man, I saw that happen as well, THREE concerts in a row.. Maynard did exactly the same thing twice, but the 2nd time, he grabbed his speaker during the long solo of "Descending" and microphone and carried it all the way to the other far left platform by dragging it down the stairs then up again with it, plugged it in just in time for the next segment started. I knew something wasn't right. The 1st and 3rd concerts they didn't play "7empest" either. They played, instead, an extended version of "Part Of Me" and he actually just went to the front of stage and screamed like he hasn't in 10 years. Then Stinkfist, and show over. Seriously, good on him for making such an effort. And yes, you're right. He is a rare breed and amazing person. Highly intelligent. If he quits music, he should run for president. No joke. But give him a 10 year break. You know he's never actually been an official member of Tool, don't you? Hence all these legal battles? He does what I do - which is being a session musician for hire.

For those that don't know, they've known each other for almost as long as Tool has been a band. Maynard (and Adam/Ronnie Dobbs skit only) were on Mr. Show in a couple skits (Ronnie Dobbs, Coupon:The Movie, end credits) and were a fake band called "Puscifer" on the show before they (Puscifer) were actually a real band. And MJK was also in the Ronnie Dobbs movie "Run Ronnie Run." So if they seem sarcastic with each other it's because they are old friends razzing each other and generally have the same type of humor. I’ve gone back and forth with how I feel about Maynard over the years having watched a bunch of his interviews spanning these three or so decades. At first I loved his communication style. Then I started thinking he’s a real cynical dickhead who’s aggressively standoffish with people. An internet community just isn't the same...it's useful...it's good to be able to connect with people like you if you *don't* fit into your geographic community. But that in person interaction with the people in your area is important, too. Love the interview.

Much better than Joe Rogan. Joe is cool and all but he sucks at getting Maynard to talk
@natemurray3112 жыл бұрын
@@SterlingSimmons22 That's funny I honestly thought exactly the opposite... Maynard seemed like he finally opened up in this interview towards the end, but you could tell his body language was not feeling the interview to begin with here... Joe Rogan and him are friends, so they're just having a discussion. Here you got a guy trying to get more views. Who is David it feels like the questions are more artificial instead of organic. Maynard seems a lot more comfortable towards the end of this interview though, And it was a good interview. But Joe Rogan's more organic. The start here was rough, but got better towards the end.

@@DanHomeAtLast Same. If I had Doc Brown's time machine, the 90s would be the 2nd place I'd go after checking out the dinosaurs. For me, AEnema was absolutely singular though. At the time, no other rock album of the 90s could touch it for me. Granted, I was 15, but I still listen to it today.

I saw Tool for my first time last Tuesday in Pittsburgh and it was a multilevel rebirth experience for me. My friends got kicked out so I stayed and rocked tf out! Maynard is so awesome he's so epic. Someone left the Ænima album at my house when I was 13 and I played it over and over and over and now I play all of their music over and over. Tool's music and art is like a fine wine, just gets better in time. 🤘🏼
