The brilliance of David Gilmour is that his music speaks to us in a language only he can speak but we all understand.

David is like a good wine, it gets better with age. This concert is amazing. Thank you for reacting to this concert. I’m still waiting for you to react to ‘A Boat Lies Waiting’ that David wrote for Rick . Have a nice weekend ❤

I think David and Polly's partnership is perfect. Roger and some Roger leaning Pink Floyd fans have always criticized her lyrics, and the fact that she even writes many of them. But songwriting partnerships have always been a thing. Most of Elton John's lyrics were written by Bernie Taupin as Elton himself has said he is not a good lyricist. There are lots of other examples. Nobody knows David's spirit better than Polly, and I truly believe that if he was able to write lyrics as beautifully as he creates music, that his lyrics would not be terribly different from what Polly has written. If you listen to the songs he wrote and contributed lyrics to in the early 70s, their are very pastoral, longing, grounded in experiences and nature. Polly just taps into what is already there.

Well said. A songwriting partnership like that is nothing less than beautifully perfect.

Like to mention that Polly is a publish author also. Polly said that Dave is somewhat of an introvert and he can express himself buy playing the guitar instead of speaking. Which I believe that why his playing sound like he is speaking to us. Watch 'Echoes" at "live Gdansk" when he said once that Rick and him speaking to each other with their instruments. "3 different times' at the end like they were saying goodbye for their last time playing together. Although they didn't know it would be their last as of Ricks death later.

It seems this song is David directing the question to his audience... ".Do you think I know something you don't know (What do you want from me?) If I don't promise you the answers would you go (What do you want from me?). asking for space, for peace. " Should I sing until I can't sing any more Play these strings until my fingers are raw Ah ah ah You're so hard to please What do you want from me?"

Admittedly, I don't know the true meaning behind the lyrics, but I have an instinctual hypothesis. This song was from the Division Bell album. When this album came out, Polly and David had courted/dated for about two years. During that time Polly had tried her hand at writing lyrics for the band. As we all know from the lyrics that came out of the Division Bell, she did a remarkable job. But my instinct says that it wasn't easy at first and Polly and David had to figure out the expectations of one another as it pertained to composing music and writing lyrics for that music. The narrative voice in the song appears to be voicing the frustration of unrealistic expectations...there's plenty of cynical lines in the lyrics as well. I've always perceived the lyrics to be saying that patience, understanding, and clear objectives are required for people to achieve a mutual benefit. The lyrics are perhaps a reflection of the struggles Polly and David as they figured out their dynamic of creating music and lyrics as a team.

Is this from Polly's view or David's view of the situation

Very facile song it is basically raised my rent from his first solo album with a composition, resembling strangely to have a cigar.

Nasty, nasty tone. Gritty, bluesy....I''ll take 70 year old Gilmour all day long. I know you've done Sorrow from Pulse, but you should re-visit that tune at this show. It's a whole different vibe at this venue and equally good, particularly with this band. The audio at this show is so good. Great job, guys!

I was under the impression that this song was written by David and directed towards his old band mate Roger Waters. I'd even swear I read that somewhere in the past, so its a shock to me to hear its supposed to be about Dave's girlfriend?

Original studio version is streets ahead of this - still not keen on it at all, apart from the harmonies provided by the backing singers near the end. And making cakes is one of the simplest things - go for it!
