I’m 33 now and I’ve been back in the gym 6 days a week and the last 9 weeks I’ve been cutting. Honestly people tell me I look incredible all the time. I have really big arms for my size. @isaiahdanz3308 Жыл бұрын
Great to see David laid have self awareness in regards to the dysmorphia: that it stems from certain insecurities that are contextually unique to each individual, but collectively-it’s based on insecurity. Eating disorders are a behavioural conditioning where one trains oneself to either under-eat, or over eat. This is how one lets the insecurities control their lives rather than one controlling those insecurities, mastering them. Indeed, I may add, if I may, that these insecurities are based on physical and social insecurities. Here it is why it may be advisable for those that are brave, to really self reflect deeply about what those insecurities really are, it is the power of understanding one’s irreducible weaknesses that fitness will not reduce. What one CAN do, Is understand one’s own unique insecurities! Why so? Because then no one will be able to manipulate you by targeting those insecurities. Yes, fitness influencesr especially, must do this, in order that they do not need to live up to the praise of social media, why do I state this? Simple, because praise and admiration, also equally implies envy, and slander. I am not saying however, to abandon social media, not at all! The conclusion I am conveying, is this: influencing on social media with a physic must be done willingly and under one’s full control! To use their physics as a purpose or means for a bigger aim! The influencers make the error of letting society’s masses control and will their physics. Influencers like coach Greg, understand this, and it’s why he’s emphasizing to find contentment with getting half way to one’s dream physic. Coach Greg is unconsciously aware (perhaps consciously aware too) that social media puppets influencers by targeting their insecurities. This occurs when the influencer does not understand their root, irreducible insecurities, and has no control over the insecurities; thus, allowing the masses to find the insecurities, and seize control over the influencers insecurities… there is a concept in social psychology called encers insecurities… there is a concept in social psychology called self-discrepancy theory: where one can experience certain conflicts with the ideals of one’s self and others, the ought expectation to live up to a standard, and real self which is what one is becoming in reality. The common discrepancy in the fitness industry is the ideal self conflicting with the real self. Resulting in dejection, disappointment and frustration. The ideals of life are never meant to be reached, but are signs of our road to becoming who we are, do not get obsessed about the signs of becoming, is the philosophical interpretation of the self discrepancy theory.

@@coolgainz9307 absolutely do not agree. I have had body dysmorphia my entire life. Not from when I was a teenager or a preteen, but for as long as I can remember. Even as a small child I was very insecure about how I looked, and was jealous of skinny kids who had abs just from being healthy kids. I did not develop it from the gym, I did not develop it as an adult, I've had it for as far back as I can remember. It's not as simple as "well just don't get body dysmorphia, if you do you're doing something wrong" that is by far the stupidest thing I've ever fucking heard. Some people are never happy with how they look, or how tall they are, or what color their hair is. It's not an easily controlled variable, that can just be shifted into the right direction or flipped off like a switch.
@coolgainz9307 Жыл бұрын
@@testableracer Ok so ur saying that it’s hard to not develop body dysmorphia, No it’s not because people make it hard by complaining like stop that, and I’m not being a hypocrite because I’m still insecure about my waist being thick and not small but I don’t complain unlike you and others about myself but what I did instead is accept it and moved on and only focus on the good parts about my body so that’s why I never have body dysmorphia because I’m already satisfied with myself and I don’t need social media to make me feel inferior because I’m the exact opposite, now yes I understand that people have body dysmorphia but people need to get rid of it immediately instead of complaining because that’s what only children do, we are men not boys and we need to start acting like it or it makes you a low value men that’s why I don’t respect people with body dysmorphia and doing nothing about it.

@@testableracer And the fact that you said” People are never happy” that’s partially true because people need to learn to accept their flaws and be strong about it and not complaining over and over again because I’m sick and tired of that and that’s what makes us weak because we don’t embrace our flaws and yes nobody is perfect and that’s the way life is supposed to be and there is no such thing as perfection

@@coolgainz9307 where the fuck was I complaining? Because I explained with an example of how I have body dysmorphia? Are you an actual doofus? Your social media comment does not pertain to me, outside of KZbin I have ZERO social media. No Snapchat, no Instagram, no Twitter, and no Facebook. So no I don't need social media to increase or decrease how I feel about myself compared to others. I also never said not to accept your flaws. Everybody has them. But for some people, just like depression or ptsd from childhood trauma, it's nearly impossible to get rid of. Is that an excuse? No, I also never said it was okay to make an excuse not to better yourself. I have horrible childhood trauma, to the point where I can't even remember certain parts of my life because my brain blocks it out. Could that be my reason and cause for body dysmorphia? Possibly, but I never made a comment saying it was an excuse, nor have I ever used an excuse not to better myself. So get the hell off your high horse thinking that you 1.) Know anything about me 2.) Think you have the right to tell people how easy it is not to have it, when you literally just fucking admitted you have it yourself.

I went to a very large Big 10 school (45,000) students. I came to that school from SoCal and was tall (6' 6"), tan and muscular. My competition at that college was almost non-existent. 90% of the guys there were mediocre to below average looking and were terrible at talking to girls. Yet no matter how many girls I picked up or slept with, I still kept thinking I could be better and do better. I remember my junior year of college, I slept with 48 women, and I was pissed it wasn't 50. My entire self-esteem was based on how I looked and how many women I could pick up. Worse, that continued all the way into my 30's except I added in a third obsession, money. It wasn't until I met and married my wife at the age of 36, that I finally let all of that nonsense go. I based my happiness on my marriage and being the best husband possible and I was finally truly happy with myself. THEN, a little over 6 months ago, my wife was killed. Now, at the age of 44 I'm completely lost. My wife was the best thing that ever happened to me. She made me an unselfish, caring, non-superficial man. My wife was an amazing woman. Ridiculously beautiful on the inside and outside. Every time we were out, I would think to myself, I have the best wife, better than anyone else's. I could easily revert back to my old self and be obsessed with the superficial things again and that's what scares me.

Really great topic for me today actually thank you.. I’ve been dealing with this a lot lately, as you can tell from my profile picture im decently muscular (6’6 205lbs)… butttt I still feel extremely skinny or underweight and that may be because I started training almost anorexic(6’4 160lbs because of drug abuse) it’s the thought of the way I used to look and just being so scared that anyone would ever perceive me like that again. I’ve actually contemplated taking ped’s many times because of this and even now I sit here and think “I’ll probably end up hopping on eventually” even if that’s just because I want to compete, it’s still not something I should ideally consider. Still trying to keep a positive mindset and train harder than last time though haha! Anyone who read this thank you so much💪🏼

I mean you can hop on a little bit of test but you really have to control it because it can also turn into an addiction but keep in mind this will not heal your dysmorfia because even Mr Olympia has it
@Nic_Fit Жыл бұрын
@@chrisruiz3269 yeah see that’s the thing Is like you said, I know it won’t help the dysmorphia but I do think it would help with my overall hormone levels so it’s kind of a mental conflict… I’m definitely gonna consult my doctor and see what’s going on first so I can make a more educated decision
@marcrchz Жыл бұрын
@@Nic_Fit You think you can fix a hormonal issue with taking artificial hormones? I have seen the damage. Don’t even consider PED‘s if you want to improve your health, you know it goes downhill from there. If you feel too skinny, best you can do is pay attention to eating.

From seeing others. I’d say give it some more years of training homie. A proper bulk does wonders and with age and muscle maturity you might look bigger or feel fuller. My uncle has been working out for 30+ years and he looks so crazy he looks like he’s on gear even in the morning with bad lightning 😂 crazy what adding 1-2 pounds of muscle a year only does when you do it for a decade! Muscle maturity and pushing natural limits pays off. GOODLUCK bro!

As someone who is at around 13% BF ( a legit 13% abs not flexed shoulder veins etc) I feel a lot better than at 17-18%. I started at 1800 calories with over a gram of protein per pound of body weight to lose the BF and have gotten to 2500 calories for maintenance and still leaning out while getting stronger. Everyones goal should be to be more healthy and to be your best self. Stay on the grind everyone

@Curren Phillips 0.7-1g of protein per lb is optimal for protein synthesis aka building/maintaining muscle mass

I do have the same. I remember feeling skinny after 2 years of training, and a lot o people were saying that I was big and that I look strong. so I analyzed the situation and I just decided to get to some stats and that I will feel happy when I get that physique regardless if I don't see that in the mirror I am 187 cm tall. I am training to be 90 kg with single body fat and 45 cm arm. right now I am 93 kg with 14 % body fat and 42 cm arm so I have to continue working but for example now I feel happy with my physique, I know I look good and strong, I want to get to my goals but I also know what I have before I was looking good, but I was feeling like it is nothing. but now I know who I am, and what I got.

I don't have body dysmorphia myself, but my view of other peoples physiques is completely skewed now because I'm spending so much time on fitness social media. I saw an anorexic girl some time ago and I thought to myself: ''damn she's shredded". Only realising a couple seconds later that she is actually anorexic lol

For the first time in my life I ve done a “dirty bulk” just to hit a stupid stength based goal. One thing I found very odd, is that despite the fact that my body looks crappier than last time. I haven’t had a single moment of body dysmorphia and sitting around 25% BF. Personally I feel the best around 15% but around there and lower I Am definitely having the worst cases of body dysmorphia. Especially if I get a bit bloated or something because it can make my composition look drastically different at that low of bf%

I always felt that my arms were too small and were just bones. At (around 12% bodyfat) I told myself that I would be happy if I got 14 inch arms.. I got there during my school years but I still felt ashamed. I told myself that if I could get to 15 inch I would finally feel normal. Got to 15 inch at around 16 - 17 years old (imagine 15inch arms on a 5' 8 - 16 yo kid).. but I still felt like a weed.. It wasn't until I got married and was speaking to my wife when she said "honestly, I prefer less muscular men" (I got up to 15.5 inch arms) then I realised I had to accept I was doing this due to my own insecurities.. not to "look good" I then was watching a KZbin video about arm sizes that said lean 15 inch arms on a natural person is actually really impressive.. that was the aha moment that forced me to really be proud of myself and what I have achieved! Now I train mainly for function to help with judo performance.

The secret is to find your true happiness and THEN get shredded. Basing your happiness on superficial things has never worked. I have a great life and I know who I am. So getting shredded, and I"ve done it a few times and I usually stay in great shape. Getting in better shape just makes my life even better because I already have the correct foundation.

While you never really get a perfect satisfaction, I can definitely say after going from 120-180 from 19-31 years old at 10% BF, I am quite happy with the progress I've made, but it just makes you want more. No longer in a needy way, but from a place of excitement and self love. Looking better CAN help you accept yourself, but you need to be open to taking the progress you get and actually appreciating it on your journey. The journey doesn't end until you start deteriorating and give up.
