i had the same theory about teachers, we need to pay them enough to attract intelligent people, who are capable of logical and critical thinking, that want to pass on knowledge and facts instead of ideology
@robertomacari501
@robertomacari501 3 жыл бұрын
Pay attracts both intelligent and unintelligent people. What’s needed is better psychological measurement and testing parameters alongside better levels of testing and training. Those who pass this should then be entitled to better pay. Making it more difficult to become a teacher or police officer weeds out the time wasters and those chasing the high pay cheque because the ones who stick with the programme are more likely to be dedicated to their role and appreciate the reward. Paying people more won’t solve anything unless the blocks are there to weed out the stupid people and harm-doers in the first place. But key members in society definitely need to be valued more highly for sure

As a teacher, I both disagree and agree with you. I disagree because teaching is something I do because I want to help kids that are growing up like me (poor and with trauma), because these kids deserve a chance. So, in that respect, teaching is a passion. That said, I agree because, in order for me to pay my bills and take care of my family, I have to find other means of income. I work part time to make up the difference. It would be great if I made enough money that I didn’t need to do that. I know lots of teachers that do the same thing. We love our careers and care very much for our students, but many get burned out early because of having to take on second jobs while teaching. This is the biggest issue. Most teachers I know are highly intelligent and capable individuals, but can’t handle the workload after a certain amount of time. I do feel lucky because I have been able to balance everything out and not get burned out, but unfortunately that is not the norm.

@@robertomacari501 true, i fully support a more stringent hiring process for teachers. i just think higher pay will attract more intelligent/competent people who typically wouldn't go for a teaching job because of how much of a pay cut it would entail. would still be up to the board to hire the right people. i just don't like having to rely on being able to find intelligent/competent people, with enough of a passion for teaching, to accept the lower pay.

@@stephenrally2432 i appreciate the people with the option to do something more lucrative but have a passion to teach and who are willing to do it in spite of the pay but i can't imagine there are a ton of people out there like that. i think an increase in salary would def help allow current teacher to fully focus on their teaching. it would also increase competition and make teaching more attractive to those with options. could be both a good or bad thing, attracting more qualified people at the expense of passion for teaching.

There's no damn way we should be raising the pay of police that much. Instead of paying them 3x MORE for the excessive amount of work they have to handle, that work should be handed off to others and made into different departments, which would create countless new jobs. Alleviate the work, use the extra money for the wages/salary of new workers taking the stress off the overburdened, always-on-edge police.

Apparently making the 1% pay for things is a completely foreign idea in the United States. Even Warren Buffett thinks the little he pays in taxes is absurd. Good thing the wealthy have us use doublespeak like "communism" to scare all the little people. Making the rich pay is either an impossible ideal or it ends up costing the average American. Brainwashing at it's finest.

@@k.lindsey3529 For one, it’s a teeny tiny segment of elected democrats that want to “defund the police”. Second, it’s a bad title since their position isn’t actually defunding. More reallocating some funds to other agencies. Police are called for things that they shouldn’t be. Example, other than black people, the group that is killed by police while unarmed most often is the mentally ill. I’m not even saying I agree with the position but to truly argue against it, you need to learn what the position IS instead of creating a straw man of their proposal and debunking THAT. If he just focused working on his voice it would make a world of difference. It does not even take that much time. 20-40 mins a day that's it, you never ever train for hours and hours! And if your voice is raspy from the day before you take a day off! You practice breathing exercises and then do some scales and keep a journal of your progress, of how high and low you can sing.. you never push it and try to sing hoarse! and drink a lot of hot water and tea. I learned to sing from the same pool of people Geoff Tate learned from. And here is the thing, you are never old to learn something new and you always learn new things even when you think you know all the tricks!

As a manager for an agency that supports people with serious mental behaviors, imo he is spot on about the police. They get alot of calls where someone is exhibiting severe mental behaviors. They are not trained in therapy, social services and behavioral science therefore are not equipped or trained properly to de-escalate certain situations in an attempt do there job more efficiently and safely. Its not their fault. But defunding them certainly isn't the answer. We obviously need the police and they have an extremely hard job but they need to be better educated in the mental health and psychological aspects of human the condition ( and pay them more ). David Lee Roth gets it, too bad legislature doesn't.

Here’s an idea: pay Police a lot more, BUT…Make it easier to fire them for acts of misconduct and have standards in place that bar them from being hired by other jurisdictions once terminated.
