I love David as well as Home Free, but David, in my opinion, wins. He sings with so much spiritual emotion! Between the 2 versions by David, the first one is still my all time favorite. I'm 73 years old, and that's the way I sang it in church choir, and sometimes the congregation would sing it as part of their Christmas Eve service.My grandfather was a minister so, again, the first version was more in the traditional style that i am use to hearing. Both versions gave me chills and tears filled my eyes. If i did not know of David's versions, i would choose Home Free...especially when Austin hit those high notes. The church is beautiful and HF's harmony is fantastic!

There are some lovely versions, including Home Free's. But when David sings, the Holy Spirit is in the room and fills him. His faith and conviction take his versions to another level. He touches your heart and the words take on new meaning. Only enhanced by his incredible voice and musicianship.

I love both Home Free & David Phelps but for me, David will always come out on top! I have listened to him for years now & what makes him different from other performers, is that he believes, lives & feels every Gospel song he sings. I love the first version better than the second, b/c sadly, the second felt more like a "performance" to me....although very good as well. It didn't give me the all the emotions that the first version does...every single time I listen to it.

He is musical heaven and he draws you into the story and makes it come alive, he makes the experience of that night seem like real time when he sings and of course the anointing 8s like icing on the cake... In the first video that AMAZING piano player was Anthony Burger. I have David Phelps video with Bill Gaither interviewed David and David describing each song and then they played the song. They were talking about that O Holy Night with Anthony on the piano with his fingers rolling up and down playing so Beautifully. David told Bill that he told Anthony to just follow his lead because Anthony was that GOOD! Sadly Anthony passed away 😢
