In the back of my mind I remember hearing David telling whoever that he also had diaries and documents (+an amazing in-depth mind/memory) for his entire career, it's November 2023 now and sadly we lost David earlier this year, though thankfully after the 917 crash(& losing part of his leg) he lived life to its fullest and left many people with beautiful memories in and out of the cars❤❤❤

Has anybody documented David Piper's racing career, if not it's about time it was done - he knows so much that will be lost when he finally leaves for that great racing track in the sky.

In the late 80,s I delivered a couple of Nardi steering wheels to David Piper at his house near Camberley & spent the best part of an hour being shown his amazing cars shoehorned into glorified sheds in his back garden & talking motorsport.He did;nt know me from Adam but would have happily carried on all day!!

I would love to meet David and just listen to him and look at his collection. Lovely to see these cars used and raced as they were intended.

I remember seeing this car in its CanAm form in the hands of Chris Amon in 1968. He suffered a flat battery on the start line and by the time the battery was changed he was well over a lap behind. Amon the went "off the air" in one of the most dramatic drives I have had the privilege to watch. At the end he was second but if there had been another lap he would have won. Incredible stuff.

Not the 350 P4 Can/Am car.. you saw the 612 or 712.. Right?

I need to look it up. It was seen at Riverside and in Canada. I have pics of it at Riverside But under powered to the 7+ Liter Mk.6 and Mk/8 McLaren... Th 4.2 liter 350 engine was thought up for a possible Indy Ferrari. But the new Offie Turbo cars were coming.... So that was shelved... J.C.

I was blessed to be at the finish line, 1967 Daytona 24 Hors.. Bandini - Amon in #846 with her sister cars in all in formation. I was jumping up and down!! Not yet 18 years of age, but I was in LOVE!! The BEST race I attended there, and at Sebring, 1964 -1972. David drove his green 365 P2/3 the following Sebring, but was a DNF. We did see him in the green LM many times, as we did others in the NART LM. Those were the days. jcarroll330P4 AT sbcgloal.net YES, there was no Ferrari 375GTB, the reason I chose the unused designator, thank you kindly...

Thank you! I was very lucky in those years... Got to know SCCA people via autocross's at USF.. Whilst still in H.S. Volunteer help was never turned down SOME from St. Pete./Honeywell Sports Car Club, who formed IMSA, later... Was welcome in the pits with my neighbor, the best welder on FLA's West Coast Ben took me to the 1964-1966 races in his Volvo PV-544 and the 122S Taught me S.U. carbs... Alway had a small Japanese set of torches and tanks in the trunk... Purloined from Nakajima by a son in 1945... GREAT for fixing trashed exhaust pipes Adding a dead pedal to Steve M's 908/2 when he broke his ankle... 1970.. We were given all the passes teams got... Poppa Ben's day job was the fuel tank farm on Old Tampa Bay... He and his boys built rail dragsters, roundy round cars And worked on Foreign Sports and Formula cars Shop out on East US 92 a mile from The Tampa DragWay I lived across the highway.. Was the GoFer and welding rod fetcher... 1972 -1973 I would be Tech. Editor @ Florida Racing News Out of Miami.... The 1973 Arab Oil Embargo killed THAT effort... Damn near killed RACING Even friend Tony a2z had to go sell CARS But it was a great decade.. FORZA FERRARI J.C.

No 6176 was The Green LM in Melbourne imported by the Australian distributor at the time I think.It was imported for David MacKay who didn’t take delivery . It was a beautiful green car registered featured in a Melbourne newspaper. Someone probably William Lowe drove it to Sandown Park, I had a good look at it, no way was it a 2 a seater. McKays’s car was racing that day. so there were 2 of them in the paddock. Me I was 13 or 14. Loved these cars though.I remember it Iike last year.

He sort of answered a question I have asked twice about the David McKays 250LM where did it go? After David McKay . It was red the last time I saw it. It was damaged in an accident in Melbourne 79 I think.

You guys still have any 2.5 liter Coopers from your old Tasmin series? Or the 1966 -1970 Tasmin cars The Dino 246 of 1966-67.... MY favorite of the era... J.C.
@beagle76225 жыл бұрын
375GTB The cars stayed 2.5 litres until the around 1969, replaced by F5000’s. The Coopers disappeared earlier than that .The most prolific cars were Space Frame Brabhams often with Coventry Climax Engines. I believe there was an Alfa Brabham too.

Chris Amons Tasmin 246? I suppose Enzo had them broken up, as with the 156 Sharknose cars, Bandini might be alive today if he had one at Monaco, 1967. Most of the team drivers wanted one, But the old man insisted on the T-312. Heat breaking, after their win at Daytona. I was jumping up and down, behind the Flagman! REVENGE for 1966... has anyone actually asked Piper why he used an english wheel to make the body when this method was not used by Allegretti and gives a somewhat different (and incorrect) finish. seeing the effort that went into this and the statement in this video from John Collins "we want everything perfect" it seems a ridiculous oversight to make the body using totally the wrong method.
@adam1othman9 жыл бұрын
th3b0untyhunter well he is english..... lol I'm joking, i assume its probably cheaper to use an english wheel than to have someone hammering the metal over a mold made out of metal or wood.. especially when looking over the complexity of the shape
