I never understood that mentality. If you own a replica of a famous car, especially if it is done well, just be proud of it it, when asked, just say it's a replica of tribute car.

I wanted one of these SO badly. I even contacted Modena Design and Development in California (who made the Ferris Bueller car) and they mailed me a brochure, order form and build sheet (this was the mid 80s, so we were still sending paper via UPS). It used its own chassis, but the 5.0 V8 engine and 4-speed automatic transmission were borrowed from a Mustang. I remember it was almost exactly $50,000, which is roughly $140,000 today.

Some years back I was at a car show in Santiago Chile. I saw a convertible, cool looking Ferrari Daytona Spyder, only to find out it was a C3 Corvette kit car from the 1970's. I would drive that car every day.

Hi Colleen, love, love this video! I was the proud owner (2004-2013) of a very similar Ferrari SWB California recreation, but based on a 365 GT 2+2 (larger V12, 5-sp gear box and IRS), so I can admire how much you enjoyed talking about and driving this one -- very accurate and sounds even better! Brings back so many good memories of driving mine. While there are those who trash talk "replicas/rebodies/recreations" (& now "Revival" with the good work of GTO Engineering), the car you drove and my car (& other rebodies) are definitely 100% Ferrari, just with a better body, usually in the case where the previous one was beyond repair or value (or like the 365 "Queen Mary/Mother" mine was, just plain Ugly). The new body for mine was made in aluminum by Allegretti in the 1980's (Allegretti was one of Ferrari's coach builders), so basically a kick-ass Ferrari Hot Rod !! -- worth every penny of $1+ million and will likely only increase in value in the future as a rare collectable (like, because you can actually DRIVE and ENJOY the thing as I did !). Mine was not only blessed by one of the original owners of Ferrari of Atlanta dealership as being incredibly accurate and worthy (he still had his TdF, an original LWB CA Spyder, etc), it was later acquired by the then-current owner of Ferrari of Atlanta for his private collection (along with his stable of 250 Lussos, 275s, etc). I believe it now belongs to a major collector of both modern & vintage Ferraris. I'm so glad you are following in your father's footsteps as it was articles from him, Niles, Roush and Apen (not to mention having T. Rutland's nearby) that gave me the confidence to buy my absolute dream car many years ago. Cheers! (& I think your arms look great, Btw :)

Whether you have the money or not. There's only 39 out there. So if you want one you have to hope someone is willing to sell one. If they don't you are out of luck regardless of how much money you have. That's where cars like this matter. With the right craftsmanship and attention to detail they can be just as good if not better than the original. What's really different between a replica and an original hand built Ferrari from the 60s?

Some close-up shots in FB were of a real 250 GT, and the engine in the replica (actually 3 replicas) was a 1974 302 Ford V-8, C-4 auto, not a muscle car engine. The “Ferrari” that crashes out of a window is really a carefully crafted fake. To capture the look and feel of the real deal, the film’s special effects team used shots of a Jaguar E-Type, FIAT 128 Spyder, and a VW Type 3.

When I realised that they use geniune time-era correct Ferrari-Parts I was wondering if "Replica" is not stretched a bit much here as a term. Yeah it's not original but I expected some straight six Engine from today and so on. Was hoping to hear a Price under 100k. But that wish died instantly after hearing how it is build. Still an awesome car and I hope there will be People who actually drive it like Ferris and don't Garage Queen it!

My friends and I did some of that Ferris Bueller stuff except we didn't have a Ferrari. With us we stood in front of the garage and said "The 1977 Ford LTD wagon with the 460 and the tow package." Generally I don't like replicas that much because most of them look like cheap knock offs but I wouldn't mind having a realistic Countach or Ferrari 288 GTO replica at all because I know I will never own a real one.

@@NextGenClassics my prediction is in 10-15 years when all the decent parts cars are gone, the 928 will become rare to see. I think they made like 170k corvettes last year (don’t quote me). 61,000 928s were built worldwide over 17 years. I’d say the attrition rate estimated around 40% parted/dismantled, totaled. Maybe 30,000 roadworthy 928s in the world left, if that. Now think that maybe 70 % of them automatics. That leaves maybe 9000 manual 928s on the road on earth
