I remember that episode. What baffled me as a kid, was that they were totally cool with it. Closing their home, freeing their pets and wishing them good luck for the future and then go out in the field waiting for their fate all in gratitude. This was a great lesson for a kid. And the other hand, they are not really dead when you think of it. They just change forms for a new chapter

You probably didn't see the end (just like me) because I heard many tv stations banned this episode due to the morbid nature of the main characters dying. I bet they thought it would traumatize kids back then. It's sad cuz I know I would have enjoyed seeing this back then.

Me and my dad watched this every single day of my life from when I was like 3 until the day I went to kindergarten. My dad passed away in 2019, and not a day goes by where I don’t think of him and miss him dearly. I was showing this to my son because I was giggling and joking about how “traumatized” my generation was from watching things like this. We were laughing and having fun and he said he wanted to see it. He’s 10. So I put it on. But I couldn’t make it 20 seconds in. I started bawling. I told him I can’t watch it or listen to it because it makes me think of “poppy”(that’s what he called my dad). You see my dad was also my son’s best friend for the first 5-6 years of his life and he thinks about him every day too. I walked outside crying to give myself a moment, and at 1:00am, middle of the night(it’s summer time so I let my kid stay up late), a bird started making the craziest noises I ever heard. It immediately stopped my tears. I knew that was a sign from my dad letting me know he is still with me. Love you dad.

I still remember crying so much when this happened, but I'm very thankful I got to experience this when I was little. It was a wonderful way to teach children that loved ones might not always be with you forever. It's a very beautiful scene and depiction of passing on and you just don't see something like this in cartoons today, as far as I know. It would be nice to see more shows that teach children about compassion and harder life lessons like this.

Its like a spiritual metaphor, we are born for a purpose, we live according to Gods will to fulfill the anointings he places on us, and when we reach the end of our earthly journey, we are rewarded with a far better rest than we have ever known, animated series and teen shows like wishbone, stories from the book of virtues, animated stories of the bible, usa high, saved by the bell, fresh prince, boy meets world, family matters, zoobilee zoo, doug, all these shows gave me morality, saved me from real life mistakes, and as a 38 year old man i am blessed because as corny as it sounds those shows molded me into the man i am today, these are programs we need back on television

I was born in 92 never even knew about this show growing up, especially if they were reruns on Nickelodeon. Probably was the best but I never knew about it because Cesar would’ve been depressed by the ending. It does look peaceful and the messages telling a young audience to understand that comes for us all especially if we get really old. But either way this was actually back in the day. Nickelodeon did things that were sad with some strong messages but then again, that was actually what made Nickelodeon great. Especially looking back on certain shows that had tough pills to swallow

Looking back, I suspect this cartoon did more to shape my sense of morality as a child than my Baptist background. It for sure instilled in me a firmer principle for empathy and empathetic understanding than my Sunday school ever did (in which I once had one of my teachers look me straight in the eye and calmly inform me that a Mormon friend of mine was gonna end up in Hell, gg Jesus).

What's with the "gg" next to Jesus there? Is that gg as in "good going"? Because I'm pretty sure it wasn't Jesus who said that your friend (nor would he say that).

@@janesmith7676 Just sarcasm, lady. And Jesus was supposed to be the divine made manifest, so no, I don't think He gets a pass when His followers misbehave. If an entity described as omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent isn't held accountable for literally everything, then He isn't actually any of those things.

I watched the show in the 90s as a kid. My son was born the same year as you. I didn't see this clip until 2011 when my grandmother died. It hit me even harder at 27 than when I watched the show at 6.

Born in '85, I watched this show faithfully but I never saw the final episode. I just watched it very recently and was bawling. Very sad, but beautifully done. Only thing I still wonder is why didn't their children/grandchildren or even other friends and family members bid them off? When swift started panicking, oh my heart. The finality of their last wave is hauntingly beautiful. "They" don't make kids shows like this anymore.

Wow. Thank you so much for uploading this. I am 29 years old and I used to watch this show as a kid ALL the time. Cried for hours after this scene. I think the TV station began re-runs the next day to counter the sadness! But I too can remember Swift meeting a new owner after his tear jerking howl (the cry which just now made me cry like a kid again and I'm a grown man haha). Thanks again for uploading, these are beautiful memories.
