I see it as a bit of both. David is a diagnosed psychopath. Christ has changed him but he will always retain some of these traits. Psychopaths are very good at this sort of humour (putting someone down) and they feed off it. He would love Mike and recognize him as a true Christian but this kind of belittling is a product of his psychopathy. Ultimately it's both but I do believe he likes Mike nonetheless.
