My uncle, restored a volvo 144 or something, around 1990. He drove it untill he died from complucations, from a surgery for pancreas cancer in 1996. It was deep ocean blue. Nearly black-blue. He had the engine fully rebuild, and he opted for rally shock absorbers and suspension. I tell you. That car was just sitting perfect on the road. He demonstrated on tiny roads, much like those found on the countryside. And he was able to drive it at 100 kilometers an hour. That is around 60 miles an hour.

This is so nice to watch and I get your comment about finish of hardware and wheel-silver. The feeling of originality you can get from small bits is so nice. And 'as new' look isn't everything, often correct age appearance and patina are the things that bring the most smiles.

I actually really appreciate your suggestion to use mattress packaging for a door panel vapor barrier...I had actually just ordered a mattress and was about to throw away the plastic...Now I have the vapor barriers made for my '78 F100 and can finally put the door panels on haha

Great work, if i remeber it right, Sweden cars didnt have The Hazard switch, in The eatly 70:s I might be wrong, but that might be why The switch doesnt have that Steel washer. I love The early dashboards of The 140 164 modell. Great styling.

Dear David Bello. 👍👌👏 Simply fantastic again and as always (work and video). I already gave a lot of well deserved compliments to the "amazing Volvo whisperer". Here is another big one: Although I was watching one of my other favourite channels, I immediately clicked on your newest video as it popped up! I'm happy for you that the leather seats turned out to be a bit better after the care product had saturated the material completely. You had been a bit dejected in the last video. I guess that your Ivy will become my favourite Volvo (and not only because she is green and you put so incredibly much effort and love in it). I nevertheless think that I wouldn't be able to drive such a car, because the pedals seem pretty close together (I have big and very wide feet). An automatic gearbox would solve that problem of course. Maybe your dream 164 is a wagon? Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing this wonderful patina restoration. Best regards luck and health to all of you.

Thank you for your comment. The accelerator pedal is not set in its final position, but you are not the first to make the comment about proximity. I’ll show it again once I get it fully installed, perhaps it will be less severe than it seems. It’s a l bottom-hinged design that seems to be the way all sporty car manufacturers like their throttle. But that’s besides the point. I forgot to wipe the last coat of lexol conditioner off the seats and it left white streaks that I’ll have to go through and clean once more. It’s like wax. Speaking of, waxing the engine bay made my detailing job that much harder to wipe all the layered spots I couldn’t get before. They’re all white and pasty now haha. Oh well. A 164 wagon would be great! You’d need to swap the full apron of a 164 to do it right. Til next time (you’re gonna love episode 35)

Dear @@DavidBello Thanks for replying and especially for another heart. Here's one 💚 for you because you took the time for such a long answer. I really appreciate all the informations in it. 2) A toothbrush with smooth bristles always helped/helps me if there was/is polish creme or wax or dirt/dust to remove at unexposed/hidden places/spots. Even a paint brush can help. 3) Swap the full apron? In Germany the apron of a car means the front clip/front panel. Is that what you mean (maybe because 164 wagons had never been built!)? I have to ask because English isn't my native language. 4) Ah, I see. Nevertheless I guess that the clutch and brake pedals still sit too narrow together for wide feet. Anyway; The main/important thing is of course, that you can drive it comfortable. 5) I'm definitely eagerly looking forward to watch the next part (excluding the scenes where you overload Belugas trunk with that engine again). Poor Beluga 😱😱😩😭 6) I love all the episodes. And even if there is one that I don't love, I still like 'em very much. I absolutely appreciate what you do and how you do it. Sincerely yours.

Great progress! The original weather protection for the door cards was waxed paper held on with paper tape. The paper would disintegrate and the tape would dry out, leaving a pulpy mess in the bottom of the door to trap moisture. Plastic sheeting is so much better. Also, volvo had an aftermarket option of a full wheel or wheel-well shaped fuel can that woul fit in the opposite side to the spare. That plastic bezel on the hazard switch is a PITA because it breaks so easily. It pays to lube up the switch to help preserve the bezel.
@DavidBello3 жыл бұрын
Great tip on the switch! One bezel was broken but I just so happened to have a brand new one handy from the Amazons. I see those wheel canisters up for sale once every so often, fetching a good price as a rare accessory.

If you can't find a decent rear view mirror you may be able to repair the old one with POR 15 Epoxy. It's like clay and can be molded into any shape you prefer, it's used to repair old broken Steering wheels.

Apart from the attention to detail and the sheer work involved I really enjoy the "theatre" you add to the video. You have a great sense for what is entertaining. As an aside, when I typed the word "involved" I realised for the first time it has the same latin root as revolve, devolved and yes, Volvo. Are you involved with a Volvo? Sorry, dumb comment.

Hint from the "way-back machine." During a routine tune-up, I began removing the throttle pedal and pounding it flat to insure WOT. Was the icing on the cake for a good tune-up to have full throttle. Yours is bent just like the 140 pedal "Consumer Reports Magazine" BENT back in 1970. They remarked "how cheap it was to bend" and voted the Peugeot 504 the best value in the class. Never liked the 140. Gee, see many 1970 Peugeots on the road?

Hi Enrique. He wants to do so much but has very little money to take on the jobs desired. I try to help out when I can, but that car is keeping him young and busy, which is nice to see.

@@DavidBello At least it keeps Mr. HUNT BUSY between the 164, the P1900 his 164 is starting to look much better than before when there were wires hanging, broken or missing parts, I would call that a work in progress I notice the door handles for the 1973, look or are compatible with the one*s from the 240, same design I would check to see if possible since the 240 was introduced in 1975, if I am not mistaken right.
@AJC5083 жыл бұрын
Last few seconds: that pedal spacing seems awful. Even for my very small feet i get the feeling it's hard to avoid the brakes when going for the accelerator. Before final assembly, would you consider tweaking the brake and clutch to the left? Would only require a vise and gentle heat. PS love your videos, but far less Wham! content than before, sadly.
