Thanks for the demonstration. Apppreciate watching you work through the kinks so I have less frustration. Bridgecomsystems is an awesome company to work with. Ordered the HT you were demonstrating and they have a lot of support. Very encouraging and they walk you through it, including getting the digital ID.

It's called "splicing tape" or "cold shrink". LOVE it for all kinds of wiring applications - especially emergency repairs.

I ordered a power cord that was much shorter that had a 12 vold auto power plug. I cut the cigarette lighter plug off and put power pole on it. Now if I want to put it in my truck I have the cord that came with it to use. I programmed my radios to set the date and time from the GPS!

Interesting tape setup. I noticed this about the power cord as well; but not nearly long enough to use to install from the battery, to the install location in my F150. Going to be stepping up to a fused power pole system for that, as well as to make a quick transition on the ends of the factory cable to make for a quick connection when going from indoor/outdoor use. The documentation for initial startup, some of the functions, as well as use of CPS, etc. is not the best with these. However, overall the radio and CPS are pretty easy to navigate if you've had even basic experience with anything electronic or other CPS software, excel, etc. Thanks very much for this series!

Another great video Dave! I just received the Anytone 878 and have learned about the cps. I am new to the hobby and have not made a qso yet, but I have had my first 2m qso with my Elmer at his house working on his antenna. Fun times. The time will get locked in with the GPS, but it has to be outdoors or connected to an antenna I suppose. I have programmed my new DMR ID in the CPS and haven’t made any contacts on the digital side yet. Actually I am having trouble getting any response on the local repeater (probably have tried 70cm more than 2m). I am making a ground plane antenna and I need to test it with my nano vna. Much for this retired engineer to learn about all these. But we are locked down as of this weekend so I have lots of time to learn on KZbin University. Haha. I have been on Bridgecom University for initial instructions. It is okay. Thanks for all your videos. Your videos helped me prepare for the tech & general

What do you think would be the optimum home base station antenna for the 578UV3 plus? I was looking at either a Diamond X3200A triband antenna or the Diamond X300NA.
@michaelsens89293 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave: I am taking my technician and general tests within the week. What do you suggest. Get a mobile/power supply for a base station? Or get a ht with a hotspot? What do you think. Thanks, Mike from Ohio.- I would like to make you my first contact. Thanks, Mike Sens.

After receiving my new 578, nothing surprised me more than discovering the 578 Chassis is the same as my Alinco 235 chassis. Have a look. The only difference is the head, and the 578 has a fan. Any idea why?

Interesting. Various manufactures license each others designs.

Alinco is manufactured by Anytone and is in fact the same radio with some differences in firmware.

Did I read that right, this is a ham radio with its own hot spot. Or is that common with more stationary style radios. I am in the market for a few handheld devices, narrowed it down to Ailunce HD1, Anytone, 878 I think, and the new Japanese 3dr with the color touch screen. Maybe 1 of each, just getting excited to get into the hobby
@davecasler4 жыл бұрын
The D578 doesn't have a hot spot built in as far as I know.

Dave, do you actually use that treadmill? Mine is out in the open with just the power cord to the treadmill itself within reach. I can't use the treadmill without catching the cable at least once. Hehe One thing I've never noticed before, you run your station off of a battery and not a power supply? How have I not seen that? That's certainly a way to reduce RFI coming into the station on the power lines.

There used to be a non bluetooth version that was $299. Bridgecom never carried it.but it was out there with some searching. The price scared me and I bought the Anytone AT-778UV. A little quirky but one thing I would ask of you. Take it out in the daylight hours. I'm not asking direct sunlight... just the daylight of a cloudy day and see if the screen is easy to read. The echo chamber of KZbin left the detail out that it is impossible to see in the daylight. At night they are beautiful displays. Anyway I like the AT-778UV so much I bought a Yaesu FT-7250DR and love it. 73

What? Sport Pilot?? I got my PPL (Private Pilot License) in 1975. Any questions just ask away, I owe you some support. I wish you the best of luck. I was a communication/electrical engineer in my career and just now got into ham radio. I thought I would fly in retirement but I had a stroke following a heart valve replacement in 2017 so I have been planning on my approach to getting back in the air. Of course with the current shelter in place, it will be a while. I have thought about the sport pilot approach and haven’t fully decided which way to go. For now I will continue working on rehab and stay on the ground so I am not a hazard to society. Haha. 73s! Brent KI5HXM

Dave what's the name or product number of the 3M tape you used on the power cable?

It says UL Listed Insulating Tape 2CF8 Made in USA. I'm assuming 3M but I don't know that for sure. Got it at an Ace Hardware store locally.

Dave. I enjoy your videos. Do you know of any DMR radios that are not manufactured in China? 73 K1DTB

Motorola. Very expensive. Alinco, not so bad. I suspect both are actually manufactured in China.

Alinco is manufactured by Anytone and is the same radio as an Anytone with slightly different firmware.

Your comment about customer support by Bridgecom is BS. I bought a 578 from them I was having a problem with a new version of the CPS. I called and was told via voicemail that they would return my call within 24 to 48 hours. Finally I was able to get some support via email and went though a series of do this and do that for about a week and nothing worked. Then even though I didn’t buy the radio from them I called Connect Systems and was immediately connected to Jerry Wanger on the phone. We discussed the problem and figured out that the new SPS was not compatible with lower resolution computers. This was in the afternoon and Jerry said he would email Anytone about the problem and include my email address. Early the next morning I received an email from Anytone with a corrected CPS that worked on my computer. That is what I call customer support. 73 W5HJ

I think you said in #255 the price of this xcvr is a bit pricey. I don't think so comparing to what I paid for my first HT in 1987 and it was a monoband for 2m. This xcvr has 3 bands transmit plus GPS. Liking the near daily videos Dave. You say that CO just begins "Stay at Home". In Ohio I am completing my 2nd week of "Stay at Home". Your State probably not hit with the virus as much as Ohio. I am enjoying the time away from others that lack responsibility to cover when they cough. News reports that USA has the most number of infected humans on the planet. Not good. Hope things improve soon. 73 KB8AMZ
