These can be a little tricky to make, but I’m planning to do more PGA Tour van “behind-the-scenes” stuff in the future. I’m also going to film at company test facilities this fall as I learn about 2024 products. Stay tuned. - DD

First one here!!! I win some Vokey wedges from David Dusek, thank you David!!!!! Just kidding, but if you are feeling generous, I would accept them. Take care and may you hit nothing but fairways and greens.

@9:25 Q: "ground by hand?" A: "yes all of *these* are *polished* by hand" well, it sounds like he answers your question but with two key qualifying words. these are tour heads. re "these": are they cast, like off the shelf, or forged? and what does polish mean? a final touch for optics or are they shaped by hand from whatever was forged or cast? i suspect the question wasnt asked bc it would reveal an ugly truth that the $200 clubs most people pay for are very different from what tour pros use. and that would get you blackballed from titleist's marketing team. go ahead, prove me wrong in a follow up video:)

The Titleist Vokey Design wedges that are in this video, like the ones at retail, are cast. Titleist doesn't make any forged wedges. The "ground by hand" portion you are referred to in the video is when he is talking about the special "JT" grind, which is not a stock sole configuration like the S, D or K grinds. To make that sole, Aaron grinds the sole by hand the make the shape he's looking for, then polishes the steel so the player doesn't see the grinding marks made by the wheel. Just smooth steel. - DD

@@DavidDusek thanks. ive heard different things from different people regarding off the shelf vs what pros actually play. other than production efficiency and perhaps durability, i dont see any upside to cast, so i would be surprised if titleist doesnt offer any forged options for the tour.

No problem. To your other points .... a big advantage to casting is it's typically less expensive to make cast clubs than forged clubs (and a lot less than milled clubs). With forging, you make one club at a time, but casting molds can be made to create four, six, eight (etc ...) clubs at a time. All of Titleist's wedges are cast, including those made for tour pros. Elite players and tour pros often have access to club builders and fitters who can customize clubs to meet their needs, but the customized clubs start as the same clubs that are sold at retail. - DD

Like I've said before, if you think the pros hit clubs Remotely like your off the rack set, you're crazy.

This is so stupid to me why would you not make the wedges with the grind already done

Titleist has a massive number of players using its wedges, so it has several different basic grinds, as you saw in the video, but many players want very subtle variations and adjustments made so the clubs suit their specific game and style. Therefore, Dill and his counterparts at other companies, often make special grinds and sole configurations for players. - DD

@@2222skinny you can get a wedge measuring gauge pretty cheap and a bench grinder for about $100 and have any grinds wedge you want. There’s way more stock options these days, back in the day every wedge got some serious work done but the last few 60°s I’ve had I’ve just used the stock L grind 4° bounce.
