Fresnel Effect (pronounced "fre-nel," the "s" is silent) - the observation that the amount of reflectance you see on a surface depends on the viewing angle. If you look straight down from above at a pool of water, you will not see very much reflected light on the surface of the pool, and can see down through the surface to the bottom of the pool. At a glancing angle (looking with your eye level with the water, from the edge of the water surface), you will see much more specularity and reflections on the water surface, and might not be able to see what's under the water.
@rickdeckard10753 жыл бұрын
@David Lee he's right, but it also depends on the angle of the incident light source, not just the viewer location

its crazy.. i've been drawing for almost 30 years, sculpture, animator.. but all for hobby stuff.. recently ive been trying to go at it professionally, especially with this Covid stuff going on.. I've taken lots of art classes in the past, and yea always learn something because i applied my self. But i've been doing a crash RE course of sorts, relearning color theory, line quality, anatomy, digital painting, digital 3d, 2d animation. Videos like these are sharpening and fine tuning my own skills. things I did and never realized, or little things that have taken my art to the next level.. Thank you

I love your approach to lessons. Scott Robertson is a master at explaining how light and dark work, why shadows are the way they are, etc - but your approach is so complimentary because you're the master of pencilling - you take his lectures and show how the pencil can represent those concepts through line... Amazing!

What I love about these videos is how easy they are to understand and apply and they offer just a little trick or reminder here and there that’s not going to go over anyones head and will probably actually get them drawing and remembering what they learn. Every tip in this style makes executing seem fun and unintimidating. If you have anything that can make a mark, even if it’s a crayon, you can try these out. Side note it might be worth going into the livestreams to hi-light different tips. There’s alot in there. As a teacher giving all this information back to people, this guy is a saint and just an extremely talented instructor.

Thanks for providing more insight David. I thought your technique on the leaf pattern was smart. Maybe it's just me, but as I progress in trying to be a better comic artist myself I've noticed that the number 3 has been very prominent in many different ways. I consistently find myself using triangle shapes, or the golden ratio in a variety of small ways. Seems like the metal technique a lot of artists use has a shadow away from the edge of forms in that golden ratio area of the said form a lot of the time too. Took me a while to get the courage to tackle metal myself. Anyway, can't wait for your next video.

These are great examples, David, beautifully done. I've always admired the Filipino greats of the 70's-80's, like Nestor Redondo, especially for naturalistic rendering. But also Rudy Nebres, who I've noted in the past renders a bit like you, on his figures especially. Good company, at least IMO... ;)
